Cheltenham Gold Cup 2011 Runners And Riders And Best Bets
Thursday 17 March 2011 at 10:54
The Cheltenham Gold Cup takes place at 15.20 on Friday and all of the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2011 Runners and Riders have been declared. There will be three previous winners in the race and all the top jockeys will once again be competing for one of the biggest prizes in racing.
Three Previous Winners Go Head To Head
The favourite in the Cheltenham Gold Cup Odds is last year's winner Imperial Commander. This is a horse who is a true Cheltenham specialist having won five of his six races over fences at the course. Jockey Paddy Brennan knows all about him having ridden him to victory in the race last year and he looks to be a very solid proposition at around 7/2. He comes up against the two Paul Nicholls trained previous winners Kauto Star and Denman, both are probably past their best at eleven years old but they can still run a decent race, they appeal more as place bets than win bets. Kauto Star will once again be ridden by regular rider Ruby Walsh whilst Sam Thomas gets the ride on Denman.
Long Run Needs To Prove Himself At Cheltenham
The horse who many are tipping to take over the Gold Cup crown from the older brigade is Long Run, who will be ridden by Sam Waley-Cohen. Long Run looks a very good horse but the doubt about him in this race is his ability to act at Cheltenham, he may have finished third there in his two course runs but he was well fancied to win those races and he doesn't look a Cheltenham natural, meaning anyone backing him at around 5/1 needs him to prove he can handle the course. Other newcomers to the race who could run well include Pandorama and Kempes, the former needs the rain to arrive in the morning whilst Kempes wants the ground to remain good.
