Carlton House Epsom Derby Odds On The Drift After Injury Scare
Wednesday 01 June 2011 at 10:09
The Epsom Derby Odds have undergone a slight shake up after a late injury scare threatened the participation of hot Derby favourite Carlton House. The odds on Carlton House have drifted slightly in response to the news whilst all the main contenders have shortened slightly.
Carlton House On The Drift After Gallops Scare
Carlton House, who is owned by the Queen and bidding to give Her Majesty her first winner in the Epsom Derby, is being monitored after knocking a near-fore joint when having a routine canter on Monday. He has had a precautionary x ray which revealed nothing out of the ordinary but that hasn’t stopped the punters looking elsewhere now in the Epsom Derby Odds despite a top price of 2/1 being offered with some bookies, Totesport spokesman George Primarolo told the Racing Post:
"With all the uncertainty surrounding Carlton House, it was inevitable that his price would drift and though connections are still confident he'll make the race, both punters and bookmakers are treading carefully at the moment."
Pour Moi Well Fancied But Native Khan Looks Each Way Alternative
The horse that is believed to be the biggest rival to Carlton House on Saturday is French raider Pour Moi , who trainer Andre Fabre has described as his “best chance ever of winning a Derby”, and he has been shortened to 7/2 and that price is currently available across the board. Recital and Seville have been difficult to separate in the betting for weeks and Recital just about has the edge at the moment at 11/2 with Coral, Seville is available at 6/1 with nearly every other bookie. One horse who makes plenty of each way appeal against the favourite is Native Khan who ran well in the 2000 Guineas and should be suited by the step up in trip, at 9/1 with bookies such as Bet365 and Victor Chandler there should be plenty of value in that price, especially with the current doubts over the favourite.
