Old Newton Cup 2011 Odds And Tips Make Bourne The Most Interesting Runner
Wednesday 29 June 2011 at 11:27
The latest Old Newton Cup 2011 Odds make this Saturday’s renewal at Haydock as competitive as ever in one of the best middle distance handicaps of the season and currently Royal Ascot winner Fox Hunt is the favourite but in recent years it has often paid to follow Luca Cumani and that could be the case once again on Saturday.
Fox Hunt Vulnerable To An Improver Like Bourne
Fox Hunt is a solid favourite for the race this year at 7/1, he won a competitive handicap at Epsom and then followed up with an impressive win at Royal Ascot in the mud. It is worth noting though that many fancied horses failed to fire in that race and he goes into this race off a 7lb higher mark and he might just be vulnerable to a horse who hasn’t had the chance to rack up a sequence yet this season. One horse who fits that bill is Luca Cumani trained Bourne. Cumani has won the race three times in the last seven years and also has a couple of placed efforts in between. Bourne ran in the Epsom race that Fox Hunt won but failed to handle the track on that day, Bourne was well fancied to beat Fox Hunt then and now Fox Hunt is 11lbs higher so Bourne looks a good bet at 10/1.
Sharaayeen An Interesting Contender Despite Poor Ascot Run
Mount Athos has been well supported this week, he was last seen running on well in the Chester Cup and although he steps back in trip by 6 furlongs here he has shown the pace to win over this trip on his penultimate outing. Mount Athos is down to 8/1 and could even be favourite on the day. Other horses to consider in this extremely open race include Zuider Zee, who always tends to run well in this sort of race, the John Gosden trained runner is 12/1 currently and another runner who catches the eye is 14/1 chance Sharaayeen who ran Times Up close on his seasonal debut and the form looks good and his latest run at Ascot can certainly be forgiven, he wouldn’t be the first horse to flop at Ascot and then go and win on his next start.
