Next England Rugby Coach Likely To Be Jim Mallinder As Martin Johnson Resigns
Wednesday 16 November 2011 at 14:27
Martin Johnson resigned from his post after three and a half years in charge on Wednesday afternoon following a poor showing at the Rugby World Cup which saw England eliminated in the Quarter Final at the hands of France. The bookies have been quick to react with Next England Rugby Coach Odds and the early front runner is Jim Mallinder, although there is likely to be many changes in the betting in the coming days and probably weeks.
Bookies Expect Jim Mallinder To Be Top Of The List
Northampton coach Jim Mallinder is the man the bookies think will take over from Martin Johnson, his experience with developing the likes of Chris Ashton, Ben Foden, Dylan Hartley and Courtney Lawes makes him a sensible and popular choice and he has already thrown his hat into the ring so he is certainly a very live contender. Jim Mallinder had been as big as 5/1 immediately after Johnson announced his resignation whilst Coral initially went very short offering odds of just 6/4. The odds seem to have levelled out now with 3/1 the most popular price amongst bookies, that is available at SkyBet, Blue Square and Ladbrokes.
Nick Mallett And Graham Henry The Other Front Runners
Not far behind Mallinder at the moment is Nick Mallett and some bookies even make him the favourite, the former Italy manager is just 9/4 with Blue Square but is generally a second favourite and is currently a top price of 6/1 with Paddy Power. Former New Zealand coach Graham Henry is also in the running and is the only other real contender according to the betting, Henry is available at 13/2 with Blue Square and after him there is a huge gap in the betting back to John Kirwan who is as big as 16/1 currently with Coral. Jake White was initially thought to be a contender with bookies offering odds of around 5/1 but the World Cup winning coach quickly ruled himself out of the job and has since drifted to 33/1 with Paddy Power.
