Christmas Number 1 2011 Odds Don’t Make Little Mix From X Factor Favourites
Tuesday 13 December 2011 at 10:29
The race to be the Christmas Number 1 is hotting up and for once the X Factor winner is not the favourite with the bookies. Previous campaigns such as ‘Rage Against The X Factor’ have made life difficult for the X Factor winners but this year a genuine chart entry is the bookies’ favourite and the fact that it is released a week after the Little Mix (X Factor winners) single looks to have given the favourites the edge over X Factor.
Christmas Number One Single
This year the favourites in the Christmas Number One betting are the Military Wives Choir who can be backed at just 4/6 with Ladbrokes currently. Their single ‘Wherever You Are’ has been breaking all sorts of records before it is released, Amazon has announced that it is their biggest selling single of all time just from pre-orders, there is still more than a week until it is released! That suggests the odds of 4/6 with Ladbrokes are a bit on the generous side, 77.8% of tipsters on OLBG have backed the Military Wives Choir to have the Christmas Number One. That means Little Mix are likely to have to settle for second best, this is the first time their single has come out two weeks before Christmas and that has obviously hindered their chance, the bookies make Little Mix a 15/8 shot (odds available with SkyBet and Paddy Power) but only 22.2% of OLBG tipsters have backed Little Mix.
Christmas Number One Album
With X Factor having often taken over the Christmas Number 1 betting in recent years it has been no surprise the market has become a bit less popular but punters’ interests have often moved to betting on the Christmas Number One Album, often a much more open betting contest. Michael Buble has tapped into the Christmas market this year with a special Christmas album and unsurprisingly that has proved extremely popular at this time of year, Ladbrokes make it the 8/13 favourite to be the number one album at Christmas ahead of Amy Winehouse’s posthumous release which is 5/4 with Ladbrokes. OLBG tipsters uls2000 is thinks Amy Winehouse’s album is up against it:
“This is a fanbase album and not a mass market album and surely won't manage 3 weeks of high sales to be Xmas number 1- Michael Buble with a strong selling Christmas themed album and with a 9pm one hour TV special on ITV1 on Sunday 18th looks for me the pick for Number 1 album.”
Other contenders include X Factor products JLS and One Direction, their albums are both 7/1 chances with Ladbrokes whilst Rihanna’s Talk That Talk is 7/1 with Ladbrokes and William Hill.
