England Euro 2012 Captain Odds Make Steven Gerrard And Scott Parker Favourites
Friday 03 February 2012 at 10:44
According to reports the FA is set to strip John Terry of the England captaincy (for a second time) ahead of standing trial over racial abuse allegations aimed at QPR player Anton Ferdinand in July. It is understood that John Terry will still be available for selection for England but in the mean time England are going to need a new captain and the betting suggests that Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker are the front runners.
Steven Gerrard And Scott Parker Dominate The Betting
The Next England Captain odds make Steven Gerrard the current favourite to be the captain for England’s first Euro 2012 match, the Liverpool skipper is just 5/4 with Paddy Power to captain England against France on June 11th in Donetsk, the only problem for anyone backing at those odds is that Gerrard isn’t necessarily first choice for England like he used to be. That is perhaps why Scott Parker is the second favourite to be the England captain for that game, Parker is 9/2 with Paddy Power to be England’s captain at Euro 2012 and having cemented his place in the England set up over the past year he looks a lively candidate for captaincy despite his relative lack of international experience.
Bookies Strongly Disagree Over John Terry Future
There is an interesting disagreement over John Terry’s chances of keeping the captaincy or being reinstated in time for Euro 2012, Paddy Power offer just 9/4 that John Terry captains England against France whilst BetVictor go 16/1! Those best odds put Terry behind the likes of Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard who are both 12/1 with Sportingbet and also Gareth Barry and Rio Ferdinand who are both 14/1 with Paddy Power. Rio Ferdinand looks overpriced on those odds as a previous skipper but he is another aging player who isn’t necessarily guaranteed a first team spot these days. Goalkeeper Joe Hart is rated the same odds as John Terry, he can be backed at 16/1 with Sportingbet and is certainly the sort of character who could captain the team although many managers don’t like having a goalkeeper as captain.
