Next England Manager Odds Still Favour Harry Redknapp As Capello Considers His Future
Tuesday 07 February 2012 at 10:16
Recent reports suggest that Fabio Capello is considering quitting England after John Terry was removed as captain without his consent but the bookies think he will be staying put for Euro 2012 and then leaving in the summer.
Will The FA Be Willing To Appoint Redknapp?
Stan James are offering odds of just 1/4 that Capello is in charge for the Euros as expected but those who think he will leave earlier than expected can get 11/4 with Stan James currently. Capello has always maintained he will leave after Euro 2012 and the current favourite to replace Capello and be the Next England Manager is Harry Redknapp, despite his court case. The FA have often gone for a ‘squeaky clean’ manager and Redknapp may not fit that bill but he is the clear and obvious choice and also the man most fans and most importantly the press want in charge. Redknapp is favourite on merit but 2/1 with BetVictor and Ladbrokes isn’t exactly a steal.
Roy Hodgson Would Be An Easy Choice For England Manager
Roy Hodgson’s reputation has taken some knocks in recent years, most notably his time spent at Liverpool, but he would appeal as a pretty safe choice for the FA and could be the sort of ‘Yes Man’ that they require so the odds of 6/1 with Ladbrokes might offer a bit of value. The FA have previously said they would like to appoint an English manager next but with Jose Mourinho likely to be on the market in the summer the FA would surely be interested in a man they are thought to have previously approached, at the very least Mourinho should trade shorter than the 12/1 on offer with BetVictor. Some interesting outsiders to consider could be Stuart Pearce at 18/1 with Paddy Power and perhaps Alan Shearer at 50/1 with Ladbrokes.
