Next England Manager Odds Focus On Redknapp And Pearce As Capello Quits
Thursday 09 February 2012 at 10:23
The Next England Manager Odds had been extremely popular in recent days with all the goings on with Redknapp and Capello but the latter’s resignation on Wednesday evening sent betting into overdrive as everyone speculates about who will take over as Next England Manager. It seems the press, the players and the public all want Harry Redknapp but will he be given the job in time for Euro 2012?
The Case For Redknapp
So everyone seems to thing Harry Redknapp is nailed on to get the job but will he be offered it and will he take it? There were some contrasting views on the OLBG forum with man o bong suggesting that we need to look no further than Harry:
"This looks pretty obvious to me, and far too coincidental that Capello should resign on the same day as Redknapp gets acquitted. Anyway, regardless...........
Redknapp can do the job until the summer part time and is in a no lose situation, and then dependent on his situation, the FA's Feeling and how they do in the Euro's decide if its a good job to take on full time or not. I don’t see any other option."
The Case Against Redknapp
But TheBettingGuru thinks that Redknapp should turn down the job if he gets offered it by the FA:
“He would be an absolute fool to take the job. Doing a great job at Spurs and now has Tottenham as real CL qualification contenders every season. What is he going to win with England? Absolutely nothing. team full of mediocre players and not one single world class player is english, not one! Once England again get knocked out he will be annihilated in the press and by the fans. Why leave spurs for a job he would only have 2 years maximum in.”
Harry Redknapp was available at 5/2 with one bookie to become England manager just before he was found not guilty of tax evasion but those odds are long gone and anyone now looking to back Redknapp can only get best odds of 2/5 with Bet365 and Paddy Power.
Stuart Pearce Clearly Best Of The Rest
Next best on the bookies’ list of potential replacements for Capello is Stuart Pearce, he is as short as 11/2 with Bet365 but is a top price of 15/2 with Paddy Power. Pearce looks set to take charge of the friendly against Holland, a decent result there and he might be given temporary charge of the Euros and another decent showing and he’d be hard to replace, whoever was available to take the job fulltime. He might be worth a small saver on that basis. Guus Hiddink has overtaken Jose Mourinho as the bookies’ first choice foreigner after throwing his hat into the ring, he also has loads more international experience than Mourinho so Hiddink looks a better bet than the Special One, Hiddink is 10/1 with William Hill whilst Mourinho is 14/1 with Paddy Power.
