| The producer of the Hurt Locker has been barred from the Oscars because he e-mailed voters urging them to vote for his film over Avatar. If hurt locker wins he gets sent his Oscar. Don't think its got much chance now. |

I don't think it will be affected. Academy members had until yesterday to cast their vote and the story broke today. There's also quite a complicated system in place for deciding the winner of the best picture, so it might not be Avatar or Hurt Locker which wins -

It's not that complicated, anybody who has ever voted in an Irish General Election will be pretty familiar with the procedure....Not that that is any recommendation given the bunch of crooks and cowboys we elect every time
Not sure I like the idea of 10 nominations for Best Film though....
Watched District 9 today, not a bad film but not sure I'd have it as one of the best films of the past year even with 10 nominees. _________________ If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. I donot even find this appeal to vote for independent films is out of line and this whole accusation with a ban just seems like something which might even backfire as if the Oscars is a communist lobby for the Hollywood copyshop. It also strikes me as crap to suggest that actors who missed the award in past years should be given an oscar nonetheless when their time comes.
I ve seen The Hurt Locker twice to be sure, and personally am convinced an unknown Jeremy Renner will walk away with the best actor catagory.
I havenot seen the performance of Jeff Bridges however. Perhaps someone can convince me this guy is gonna really win as the odds suggest? The trailer clip just looks like another performance of someone I am familiar with.

Finally got a chance to watch The Hurt Locker today and what a letdown, not one spark of originality throughout the whole film, packed with cardboard characters and don't get me started on the Iraqi characters or should that be stereotyped caricatures...The "story" was just a run of the mill paint by numbers join the dots yawn, if this is one of the best films of 2009 then I'm not sure I want to see the others on the shortlist. _________________ If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. Interesting one - designer of the dress worn by the best actress winner. Paddy Power had Alexander McQueen at 9/4, now 7/4. Sandra Bullock, favourite for the Oscar for best actress is a fan of Alexander McQueen and paid him a glowing tribute after his recent death, wearing one of his outfits at an awards ceremony recently too.
Could be the value bet of the Oscars! |

I have dutched Avatar and the Hurt locker for best picture on Betfair, 200 quid if Hurt locker wins 45 if Avatar wins.
Also have a big bet on Jeff Bridges for best leading actor.
Fingers crossed |
