This Week just goes to cement what i have been researching in the last couple of months. whomever you back, always have an insurance wager for leader after round 1. ie alot of you on here have backed Carl Pettersson@20/1 for outright win,if you had also backed for him leader after round 1@25/1 which is a bigger price, you could sit back all weekend while watching the rest fight it out on Sunday with the knowledge your already a winner after round 1. Plus the added factor that if Carl Pettersson wins or places on Sunday it's double win in one tournament.
Tim Clark@28/1 for outright win, Tim Clark@40/1 for leader after round 1.
Tiger & Vijay proved last week proved why it's the way to go,they were both in the top 5 after round 1,but come Sunday they had both faded out of the top 5. |

Agree with the above comment however the more bets you have the bigger the fall and value drops i have not backed Woodland to win @ 60/1 but just done him at 11/1 to finish in top 5 ,.with this its irrelevant if he ties 5 ways you still get the 11/1 ,.my only worry is i dont want him to win now or it will back up the above post ,.with my luck at the moment i would advise you all get on Gary woodland to win !!!!! _________________ What dont kill ya makes ya stronger |

Good Luck llewoc ,Always good to have EW wagers though, they cover the win & place, you don't want to be kicking yourself, watching Woodland walking up the 18th hole on Sunday 4 shots clear about to win. it looks like it will be a really low score that will win, especially with Tim Clark making the most of the good conditions this morning, bad weather is focused later this afternoon, the late starters scores will suffer. I will just be grateful if my tips make the cut which could be -3 the way it's going. This is such a crazy sport to wager on,i had a real fancy for Tommy "2 Gloves" Gainey@100/1 who finished T3 last year, but his recent form has been average, that put me off him ,today his -8 three shots off the leader. |

i did back PETTERSON to win and 1st round leader (got 30-1). main reasons i did it was because he and my other picks SIMPSON and DUKE (who i also back EW and 1st round leader) are good starters. not sure i would do it for all my bets tho as there are those, WESTWOOD, DONALD, PHIL, LOUIS O to name a few who are not generally seen as fast starters.
re backing EW or just place, you obviously also get a bit more place money if you back EW. ie if you had backed him at 60s EW the place would be 15-1 and not the 11-1 you have taken.
understand what you are saying with the tied 5th place as that really annoys me. :x still baffles me also that for the grand national, where there are 'only' 40 to choose from, some bookies have started to offer top 6. yet with golf, where you looking to pick a winner from 100+ starters, you only generally get a 5 place payout and those robbing bookies still snip the price if you do indeed get the tiesd 5 place.
mini rant over. |

as it goes he looks like he wont make the cut however i would of had 5.00 e/w @ 60/1 however i had 10.00 @11/1 place because i didnt think he would win yet would of got 120.00 return for a place yet if placed at 60/1 and say tied 3 ways would of got 16.50 odds of approx 7/4 .know where you are coming from but as stated in a previous post strongly fancied webb Simpson to win but 12/1 didnt appeal (it does now!!)
Just give you one of my gripes from uspga bet on 4xer on match bets 3 won one tied came as a loser im stilll mad as im sure i have bet before on the threeball and got paid for dead heat if they tied !! and as for place money its hard enough to pick a golfer to finish in top 5 (hence Paddy Power giving top 7 in open ) lets face it you only have to look at all the tips on the site put say 5.00 on each and seee who wins the bookies or us !! rant over
hope your on Webb hes still 7/2 and looking good _________________ What dont kill ya makes ya stronger |

hi all
did anyone see yesterday afternoons play? i was wondering if the conditions were as tricky as was expected as i noticed SIMPSON shot a 7 under. coupled with his second round in the PGA where he shot one of the best rounds of the day again in the worse of the weather, wondering if anyone has thoughts about backing SIMPSON in the future if the weather is to play a part in it? and while im here may as well ask if anyone has noted any players that do tend to thrive in difficult conditions?
cheers

As for players thriving in difficult conditions well it isn't an exact science but generally players from the United Kingdom cope better than players from the States.
This is mainly due to the fact they have been brought up playing in worse weather as anybody that has lived in the UK this summer can verify.
Think back to the Open in 1999, conditions were awful, winner Paul Lawrie of Scotland, the Open at Sandwich in 2011 again was difficult and won by Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland and then in 2010 the Ryder Cup in Wales was played in dreadful conditions, play was stopped on several occasions and had to be carried over until Monday. Europe won, gaining most of their points when the weather was at it's worst.
Like I said it's not an exact science but UK players will normally prefer tough conditions to Americans. |

| John Cook has just Eagled in the Champions Tour to go Second,Bud Cauley is positioned Third in the PGA,in the LPGA i seemed to have chosen the wrong Miyazato. Mika Miyazato is running away with it, while my pick Ai Miyazato is languishing in bottom half of the table. I have trebles with all my picks,at the moment am really kicking my self for not doing singles & doubles. How can Roger Chapman win 2 majors in the Champions tour and cant even contend in the regular tournaments :x rant over  |

How does Ai Miyazato shot a 67 today, why didn't she do that all Week :x really frustrating sport to wager on |
