England start the game with arguably their 1st choice defensive line up; Johnson, Cahill, Terry and Cole. Whilst Belgium have a host of creative players in Hazard, Fellaini, Dembele and Witsel I dont really see any out and out goalscorers so they may struggle to apply the finishing touch, especially with 1st choice Joe Hart in goal. I would say there is a very strong argument to suggest that Belgiums defence is stronger than Englands. Kompany was easily the best defender in the league in the season just gone and Vermaelen has been Arsenals strongest defender since they signed him from Ajax. Vertonghen is now the captain of Ajax and led them to their 31st title this season, there is also alleged interest from Spurs in him. England still struggle for natural goalscorers imo, I would argue Young and Gerrard to be the most composed in the team in front of goal, but I'm not sure Gerrard will be licensed to roam too far up the pitch with Welbeck, Young and Chamberlain all starting. I think we could be seeing a low scoring affair here and perhaps with so many defenders on the pitch with goalscoring ability they might be actually be the best chance of a goal from a set play. The likes of Terry, Cahill, Kompany, Vertonghen and Vermaelen are all more than capable of getting themselves on the scoresheet, I wouldn't like to say which 1 to pick though!
Think the bookies may of missed something in the holland ireland game. Backed over 4.5 goals at a massive 2/1 against a second string ireland tea, which is currently 4-0 after 40 minutes!!!
