NEAREST THE PIN
17.30 Fairyhouse @ 5/1 NAP
Nearest The Pin for Tony Martin and Ruby Walsh should take all the beating this afternoon in the big handicap at Fairyhouse over the extended 2miles trip.. Connections must like a winner at Fairyhouse as Hold The Pin ran at a few festivals winning a big handicap in impressive fashion 2 seasons ago and this horse Nearest The Pin couldn't have won a fiercely competitive handicap any easier than he did last season under Paul Carberry..
The selections chase form is solid and has some decent form behind Hidden Cyclone at Leopardstown when only beaten 2 lengths and when second to Days Hotel at Punchestown.. Although the selection was 10 lengths a drift of the impressive winner that day, the winner has subsequently won the Craddockstown on his only appearance since beating Nearest The Pin.. When losing out to Hidden Cyclone during the Christmas festival at Leopardstown my selection had Shot From the Hip 19 lengths behind off level weights.. Shot From the Hip was admittedily having his first run over fences but he hasnt done much to say that he has improved for the run and I think a mark of 136 is about right for this lad.. He has 19 lengths to find and 4lbs to concede which tips the advantage in Nearest The Pins favour..
The horse goes well at the track, trainer does very well in handicaps and had a big handicap winner here yesterday.. The selection loves this trip and ground conditions should suit.. Ruby Walsh is a very good booking and he will be very eager to get a winner on the board after drawing a few blanks!
Best of Luck All!!! |

4-45 Yarmouth JACK MY BOY
Looks thrown in here on form as this selection has won on a mark of 86 before and is on 74 here if you take in the conditionals allowance. Has won two class 3 races and one class 2 race, and this is only a class 4 race, so if running anywhere near is best should be in the shake up today. The young conditional has had 3 winners in the last 14 days and overall for the season has a 17% strike which some senoir jockeys would be proud of. Also he has a massive lsp for the season. The trainers runners are also going well with as 20% strike rate in the last 14 days. The selection had a race 22 days ago and ran ok finishing 7th in a large field he should be fit enough now to run his race.

3:20 Pontefract - Mezzotint NAP
"MEZZOTINT is in fine form and i will side with this one to get the better of this lot. Theres not much in it and the Marco Botti trained runner is looking to complete the hat trick. Showed promise on debut for Luca Cumani and impropved on that when after joining this yard when winning at wolves. Won well that day beating Hurry Up George by 3/4 of a length. Did the double lto when beating Waseem Faris by a length. Had more to give that day and theres plenty of improvement expected. Kirby is on board again and only 5lb higher than lto will be tough to stop. Jessies Spirit is bigger priced than i thought and may be wirth an EW bet."
3:50 Pontefract - Cloudy Spirit NB
"Theres a few in with good chances here including Cotton Grass and Akarshan. The first is open to further improvement and Akarshan comes into this on the back of two good wins over fences. I will side with CLOUDY SPIRIT though here. The selection trained by Reg Hollinstead has been consistant. Showed good winning form over hurdles and hasnt had many flat outings. Showed best on the flat lto at wolves on the AW when 3rd 4 lengths behind Bobs World. Should go well again and looks interesting on handcap debut on the flat. Tony Culhane takes the ride again which is a plus. "
4:55 - Pontefract - Finesse
"Toodeloo could go well on debut and at 22/1 could be worth an EW bet. Bessichka and Lisiere wont be far away. Trail Of Tears could go well again but frustrated on second outing lto when a beaten odds on fav. My vote is for FINESSE. I think i backed this one on debut lto when finishing 6th. Was staying on towards the finiish but couldnt go with leaders. Will improve for that run and in a poor looking race could get involved. Good yard, trained by Ralph Beckett and Jim Crowley takes the ride which is a plus. "
5:55 - Pontefract - Seldom
"Striker Torres, Maven and Yorksters Prince should all go well here but my vote is for SELDOM. The selection trained by Mel Brittain was a good 2nd september last year when 1 length behind Master Of Dance. Returned from winter break lto and was a promising 3rd, 2 lengths behind Shamarlane. Should improve for that run and back down in trip should go well. Inform Silvestre De Sousa takes over in the saddle and with Beautiful Day and Cabel non runners, this one should take some beating. Has better ground here that will suit. "
Good luck people |

INDIESLAD @ 10/1 7pt NAP
Was way overpriced this am at double this price but its still a bet at 10/1.
Rates really well, solid jockey booking, will be competitive at a nice price.
Play Each Way if you like as its very early in the turf season. |

Dartrix 25/1 E/W
Not a strong looking maiden and nothing really stands out
Race experience counts in this races so i think the six newcomers will not win so between the other six
I think Dartrix looks value here and will do far much better then its debut run
Nicely bred and was heavily back on debut into 9/2 but a very poor start cost it and can not start slow on the sand and raced wide and hated the kick back
Will do much better with the run behind here and should like turf much better based on breeding
Was supported for a reason and must have shown something decent at home and worth backing at these odds" |

Veiled Applause 7/1 NAP
I do not normally NAP in big field let alone handicaps but feel this horse has a massive chance today after a very promising run last time
Veiled Applause has not won for a while and as a result of this has slipped down on a nice handicap mark
Ran a cracker on seasonal opener 10 days ago and went off fav and finished fourth but young claimer gave it a bad ride and gave it far too much to do and stayed on so well and is off a one pound lower mark here
Stable are on fire and yard has three winners yesterday so horses are doing very well
Last April was placed in two races in April off 83 and 82 and is on 69 here so very well handicapped and in much better hands now and feel a big run is on the cards and a lovely price |

4.15 Yarmouth
Darrow 11/1 NB
So many potential improvers in this race and many will need the run but the one's that have run this season have not impressed me at all
Vena Amoris has been awful in two starts but Johnstons horses always improve for handicaps
I think Darrow could be on a nice mark here for handicap debut Nicely bred and look the type to run in handicaps and started slowly in races and kept at the back like the yard were just getting the horse used to handicaps and to be given good marks but made good headway in races and improved with racing
Last race last year ran a decent sixth in not a bad looking maiden
Finished 6th but was not beaten far and race was won by Farrajj top horse in the Varien yard and a few that finished in the placings have run in listed and group races so form does not look bad May need the run but overpriced in my opinion
Debut run was won by Entifathdaa who has run with credit in many top races
And second run Top offer won who is highly rted by the Charlton yard so ran in three hot maidens and looks on a generous mark of 70 |

Indego Blues 22/1 E/W
We all know Nicholls has a great ratio in big field handicaps and has a promising horse here who could be on a nice mark
Tough race to call with many having first runs of the season so fitness has to be taken on trust but seen Dandy's horses do well first time up this season
Indego Blues is lightly raced and unexposed and looked promising after three starts
Hacked up last time and won very easily and could have won by more
Mezzotint is fancied but through form id rather Indego Blues
Mezzotint beat a horse called Taffe by just over a length and Indego Blues beat it by two and half lengths and eased down and looks the one with more potential and nearly over three times its odds |
