|

|
The following competition is simple. There will be one race picked at random each day and you have to try find the winner. Although with this comp rather than just typing the name of the horse you think will win you have to write up why you think they will win aswell. Anyone who doesn't put in the effort and writes something like "I fancy X to win because he is white and they are faster", "I like his name", "my friend told me so" etc. etc. won't be considered nor will any copy + pasting from other sites. YOU MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 4 SEPERATE POINTS ON WHY YOU FANCY THE HORSE.
So what we're looking for here is for you to look at the race and come up with a selection. Then post the name of the horse and write a few lines which must consist of more than 30 words with at least 4 seperate points on why you fancy it and that's it.
* If you want you can enter a second selection (must have write-up also) just in case your first choice turns out to be a non-runner and you don't have time to post again.
* If a race hasn't been posted after the selected race, please feel free to do so. The race for that day must be completed.There is no time schedule
* You may not edit your post at any time. If your selection is a non-runner then just make a new post in the thread with your new pick.
* In the case of a selected race not going ahead due to a meeting being abandoned / unforeseeable circumstances then there will be two races selected for the following day instead.
* When selecting races, please refrain from MAIDENS/NOVICE events including BEGINNER CHASES as these can be difficult in placing a reasoning to.
* HANDICAPS and HIGHER CLASS races are the ones preferred.
1st = 20pts + 3x SP
2nd = 12pts + 2x SP
3rd = 6pts + 1x SP
4th = 4pts
5th = 2pts
To encourage people to look away from favourites aswell there will be bonus points for the price of the horse as shown above. This means that if someone picks a 2/1 horse that wins they will get 26pts (20 for winning and then 3 times 2/1 is 6 -> 20+6=26) while if someone picks a 10/1 shot that comes second they will get 32pts (12+20=32).
PRIZES

Swilly Ferry
Wide open so go to the ones I'm drawn, 2 stand out but will take this one,
Nicholls hit a couple of winners of late and this one is new to the yard,
something he does often and gets them going again, has been gelded since
last seen which can help and been here 4 times winning one and running well
twice, hes well handicapped on form and is 13lb better with Joe Packet who
is near the top of weights, draw can be here or there, has gone well from a
break before, taken the 12's eway |

Ellie In The Pink
Rattled off 3 quick wins off marks in the 60's at the end of last summer.
2 of those wins were over this 7 furlong distance.
Ran well on final start of 2011 over a mile, just being headed close home.
Had a pipe opener on the AW 10 days ago, dropped away inside the final furlong, running here off the same mark of 77. |

Advanced
One of my favourites been following for a while,so will stick
by him.
Gets distance, placed 2 times in his last 6 starts, and winning once
Loves class 2, has won five class 2 races, goes on any ground.
Advanced has won twice in big field of 28. so likes the big fields.
Amy Ryan got -3 off Advance back will help to, also Amy won on
Advance twice, so both get on very well.
Sure to ran well, and sneak into a place, with a nice sp. |

A new start for all Going to kick off with (Doc Of The Bay) like this horse in races like this and the quicker they go the better. My selection has run well here before and is not on a bad mark has had a few warm ups already so should at least give a good account of himself. There are quiet a few well handicapped horses on show but the long old will they do it fresh still remains with a few of them and some have been gelded which could revive a few also. Not an easy start but who wants that eh NB (Confessional) |

15:20 DONCASTER
The type of race that suits this competition down to the ground, though as a punting perspective, it’s definitely one I won’t be getting involved with. Races of this nature so early into a season have a high level of risk as regarding to the horses fitness with the majority of runners making there seasonal debut. When adding that to the draw bias at Doncaster, then the race becomes a bookmakers dream. The draw advantage was a little difficult to grasp on the opening day of the meeting as the two big races gave mixed vibes to which side we should be taking today. The Spring Mile suggested middle to low numbers was the way to go though a hour later over the same course and distance, the Lincolnshire suggested middle to high numbers.
I tend to try and cut down the studying time on races of this size, as ninety percent of the time, they don’t work out as planned. With twenty two runners currently going to post for this New William Hill Iphone Handicap, it’s likely the handicapper as done his job, and there’s more than a handful coming into the race, capable of taking top honours. Looking for horses that run consistently at the distance is the way I work to try and break up the field. This is one of the key aspects a long with how they handle the forecasted ground conditions. I now look to whether there capable of holding there form within the grade there contesting and whether there up to winning off there current mark.
One horse that springs to mind tomorrow is Docofthebay. He rarely takes his chance over this six furlong distance; in fact he’s only ever contested five races at the distance in sixty career efforts, though the form he’s shown on each of those five occasions, suggests this his is optimum trip. His better efforts have come on today’s forecasted good ground and he’s a proven performer, not only at this level and off this mark but at a higher grade and a higher mark. Though he mostly contests at seven furlongs, his form at the track stands out as eye catching over various distances. He recently won a listed event on Lingfield’s artificial surface, accumulating a mark of a hundred and three, which was the last mark he contested at. He now goes off ninety three for the return to turf and Ian Mongan keeps the saddle ride on a horse he gets on well with; he’s sure to go close under the conditions.

JOHANNES
He represents the same trainer as Lincoln winner Brae Hill (1), he's well treated on last seasons placed efforts (2) in some top handicaps and he won first time out in 2009 and 2010 (3). Best priced 20/1 looks attractive (4). Not much detail but 4 reasons why I think he is value. _________________ www.twitter.com/MartynCarlisle2 |
