The following competition is simple. There will be one race picked at random each day and you have to try find the winner. Although with this comp rather than just typing the name of the horse you think will win you have to write up why you think they will win aswell. Anyone who doesn't put in the effort and writes something like "I fancy X to win because he is white and they are faster", "I like his name", "my friend told me so" etc. etc. won't be considered nor will any copy + pasting from other sites. YOU MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 4 SEPERATE POINTS ON WHY YOU FANCY THE HORSE.

So what we're looking for here is for you to look at the race and come up with a selection. Then post the name of the horse and write a few lines which must consist of more than 30 words with at least 4 seperate points on why you fancy it and that's it.

* If you want you can enter a second selection (must have write-up also) just in case your first choice turns out to be a non-runner and you don't have time to post again.

* If a race hasn't been posted after the selected race, please feel free to do so. The race for that day must be completed.There is no time schedule

* You may not edit your post at any time. If your selection is a non-runner then just make a new post in the thread with your new pick.

* In the case of a selected race not going ahead due to a meeting being abandoned / unforeseeable circumstances then there will be two races selected for the following day instead.

* When selecting races, please refrain from MAIDENS/NOVICE events including BEGINNER CHASES as these can be difficult in placing a reasoning to.

* HANDICAPS and HIGHER CLASS races are the ones preferred.
1st = 20pts + 3x SP
2nd = 12pts + 2x SP
3rd = 6pts + 1x SP
4th = 4pts
5th = 2pts

To encourage people to look away from favourites aswell there will be bonus points for the price of the horse as shown above. This means that if someone picks a 2/1 horse that wins they will get 26pts (20 for winning and then 3 times 2/1 is 6 -> 20+6=26) while if someone picks a 10/1 shot that comes second they will get 32pts (12+20=32).

PRIZES

1st = £10

2nd = £5

Francis Du Mesnil 2nd

Not get distance yet, been placed 2 times in his last 6 starts.
Showing signs coming back into form, 4th at Southwell last month.
Not won for three years, but been placed few times recently.
Has finished 3rd on good ground, so should be able cope with the going,
as Francis wins have been cut in the ground.
Got his regular claimer jockey on last 2 races, has taken - 7lbs off his back
will help to.
Show signs of returning to form last race, can sneak in to the places,with
a nice sp. Fingers Crossed
My Reserve is: A little bit Dusty

Cheers Micko for early post..
March here at last, favourite month of year. Smile

Soleil D'avril

Kings horse are running well and he only has 2 today, horse ran its closest
finish last time running a good second to Corkage, thats not bad form as
Corkage won its next too then came 3rd to todays winner Big Easy then ran
a good second to Allthekingshorses, decent enough handicaps and form.
He spent most of his career taking on very or really very good horses,
and this looks easiest task to date,
trip and ground no problem and King does well here, this will be shorter than
9/2 on offer.

SOLEIL D'AVRIL

still a maiden his 2nd last time out at doncaster was a cracking effot and only 1lb worse off here alan king is 3-6 at taunton for getting his horses in the frame this year and robert Thornton is 26% in the last 14 days and 12-23 to be in the top 3. so im expecting for him to be in the running.

A little bit Dusty

Here we go again. If you can forgive him his last run which was poor the selection could be in with a good shout. That run was in a class 3 race and drops down to 4 today and has a win in this class. Has a good record over hurdles with 3 wins from 5 starts. Won on his hurdle debut over 19 furlongs so the little extra distance won't be a problem, and has wins on the going. Chris Davies gets the ride again and hopes to make amends from last time, and takes 7lb off in the process. The odds of 25's at time of writing seem good value e/w to me.

taunton 4 10

soleil d'avril

if last run wasn't a fluke he stands a good chance here, stable in form 20% last 14 days, with a 17% s/r at taunton, robert thornton has a 18 s/r here,and in form to 26% last 14 days, soleil d'avril stays the trip and acts on good going.

SOLEIL DAVRIL

seemed to come good last time out when placed in a competitive race,that was his first bit of decent form and his stable are in great form right now and robert thornton in great form since his comeback from injury,his race last time was at this trip and ground today should be perfect for him,high enough in the weights for what he has achieved but we probably have not seen the best of him yet.

SOLEIL D´AVRIL

Alan King stable is on a high at present and with Cheltenham around the corner, he must be expecting the best from his stable runners.
SOLEIL D´AVRIL was beaten into second place by Corkage who wnet on to win next time out and finished placed in his next two outings, not many from this race that were behind have run, which if they had, might of given the form of the Doncaster race more depth.
This was his second run of the season his first, was at Huntingdon, where he was pulled up, this might of been around the time that Alan King yard was not firing on all cylinders.
His trainer and owner must think highly of him to run in a class 2 novice hurdle taking on sprinter Sacre and was beaten 33 lengths and finished in seventh place out of eight runners.
Today's race could be more to his liking and in a class that he might excel in.

4.10 Taunton

Orang Outan

One run so far this season, finishing 5th over 16f, entitled to have come on for that. Mark down 2lb from LTO run to 98, has won of similar marks. Runs on all types of ground and has run well here before, finishing 2nd in March 2011 over this distance. Now regular jockey David Bass in the saddle again, he has a good record on OO, he has been in reasonable form recently with a couple of winners, and a S/R here of 16%.

Taunton 4.10

ORANG OUTAN

The oldest horse in the race but still lightly raced of late. Just 3 races in the last 3 years and a win over 2 miles in one of them. Has run well over c&d in March last year when finishing a 10 length 2nd of 10 on good ground. That run entitles him to some respect and puts him in with a shout if in the same mood. David Bass has ridden him for the last 3 runs and gets the ride again. The horse is dropped 2 pounds from his last run which will help, but he hasn't run for 88 days and his lack of a win at this trip is off-putting but he may well run into a place at decent odds.
