3.30 Lingfield - Poppy Golightly 7/1

She's been running well in defeat lately and was only just touched off last time off the same mark. Her apprentice jockey claims an extra 2lb today so effectively she is 2lb better off. This race is officially 5lb weaker than that race. She ran as if an extra furlong would suit her so this step up to 1m2f is another positive. Nicely drawn in stall 2. Can't see a thing wrong with her credentials.

Apart from oneaday, Longsdon is still in form and does ok at Huntingdon,
he also does well when teaming up with Woods,
6-37 at course Hurdles and 8-31 26% for hurdles with jockey Pampellone 3.20 3/1
0-4 for Bumpers Course but 8-17 47% with jockey Bumpers Little Chip 3.50 no price yet,

Also have to give Velvet Vic 2.40 Muss one last go see if has a race in it,
jockey who rode him to best finish is back up and featherweight, weak
looking race, Buchannan not on Russels horse who has rode but has rode
the one hes on for Alexander who also has the top weight with Lucy Alexander
on, 12/1 weak race.

3.20 Huntingdon - Pampellone 3/1

Totally agree Blueboy about Pampellone, should have won LTO at Bangor. 4 lenghts clear coming to last but got it all wrong and lost by a neck. A race at this level is well within his range and compensation should await today.

5.40 Wolves LEYTE GULF 5 points win @ 11/4 BOG

Four times a winner over this C&D including off 6lb higher, he has been running back into form of late and finished an honourable 2nd to a well handicapped Sir Mark Prescott representative last friday. Faces nothing of that calibre here and can register course and distance win number 5

Owners & trainers let themselves down sometimes
Huntingdon put on a class 3 novice chase today
2m 4f on good to soft ground and they get 4 runners !!
Huntingdon not far from lambourn, Newmarket but Venetia makes the effort from Hereford
Then we moan about prize money !

It's a UK racing problem. Your handicap system causes these small fields. If a horse runs well in a Novice race and finishes close to one of Pipe's or Henderson's they get a high handicap. This of course wrecks it's chances of a good handicap mark. So unless you are sure the horse is that good you won't run him in a Novice.

I think its more of a trainer problem. The handicappers have said time and time again that they have concentrated on not going overboard for horses losing to top class prospects recently, in an effort to try and increase these Novice Chase fields but I think trainers have got set in their ways now and refuse to believe it, despite evidence to the contrary.

I would give you Rebecca's Choice as a good example from this season... finished 1 3/4 lengths second to the high class Owen Glendower in a Beginners Chase, actually running with a great deal of credit. Was allowed to go into a handicap nto off a mark of 111...

The handicapper nearly came a cropper there as well as he clearly looks a bit better than that ( ), but it just goes to show that they are taking a much more conservative view now.

Back at his favourite track and with Brian Hughes up, VOSGES is a 5YO with 2 wins (both at this track) and 3 places (twice 2nd at this track), including winning the 2011 Scottish Triumph Hurdle here (14k prize money).

This will be a blowout for him in preparation for the same race next month and he is the value to upset the D McCain favourite (Charminster). Strictly speaking, Charminster has the more progressive profile but is prone to jumping errors and it is worth taking a chance for the better value on VOSGES to return to winning ways at a course he loves.

Eastern Gift 13:00 EW. Got my reason but finding it hard to write them down into words so you can understand but been running quite well last 3 times at southwell and is CD here and lower weight as useualy nice EW at 12/1 but only Small.

A quote from Charlie Longsdon in this week's Weekender:

"I would be very disappointed if she doesn't win the mares' novice hurdle at Huntingdon. She was caught close home at Bangor having nearly fallen over after walking through the last and will appreciate racing against her own sex. With the exception of Mangonel, I can't see any other horse capable of beating her."

Personally I think it's worth noting that it is actually a handicap rather than a plain novice hurdle so should be a lot more competitive. I'll be placing an in-running Lay for stake recovery somewhere between the last two hurdles to avoid a repeat of last time!

Zipster is back!! Managed to get 2/1 on Hinton Admiral,now generally into 13/8. I think it has a good chance but small stakes as any in this field could win this poor race!
