A good card today at Newbury. There are many well bred fillies in Bridget Fillies Maiden and the race could well potentially produce an above average sort. I will be siding with the Andrew Balding trained Love Tatoo, bred to be effective at this trip as a youngster and is related to a few smart horses with one or two of these having been first time out winners. The yard look as though they may be coming into form and i don't think this one holds an entry for the sake of it.

Seven is Lucky runs today at Ayr, won on the bridle 2 out of its last 4 outings and was pulled up the other 1. Was 8/1 when I checked last night and fancy it today aswell

There is obviously a fascinating card at Newbury today, but there is a horse making its handicap debut at Fontwell in the last at 5.15 who I am particularly interested in. He is the Gary Moore trained Laughton Park, who has been set some stiff tasks so far in his brief career, debuting in the Listed bumper at Ascot won by Shutthefrontdoor and finishing last.

He pulled up at Newbury on his hurdling debut next time, but it was his effort next time, when last of five behind Claret Cloak at Sandown, that caught the eye; raced in last and began to lose touch from some way out, but Jamie Moore was content to nudge away and no more aboard this gelding and was very much looked after. It was much the same story last time back at the same track when again tailed off behind the smart Oscar Dara, again losing touch with the prinicpals without being given an overly hard time.

As a result of his muted efforts so far he gets what could well be a lenient opening mark of 94, and it is no surprise whatsoever to see his step into handicap company coincide with a step up in distance, having raced exclusively over 2m to date; pedigree strongly suggests the extra 6f he tackles today will suit (half brother to the likes of Absolute Shambles, Iron Maid and Longshanks, all of whom stayed at least 2m 4f), and the yard's local track is a place they enjoy plenty of success. They are also well-versed in getting horses nicely handicapped in good novice hurdles, and I would be very surprised if he couldn't go very well on his debut in this sphere; looks decent value at 9.6 on Betfair.

just wondering if those two Hannon runners in the 2.10 Newbury are more closely matched than the market suggests. Dobbs is supposedly on the "2nd string", but this one has the right pedigree for the trip today? Confused

I've doubled it up with that fav in the 2.40, 12/1 double Wink

if they both win I'll be having a Cecil double in the 4.25 and 4.55 Fingers Crossed

off-topic a bit but Hamilton is 6/4 to be fastest in Practice session 2 at Betfred (Bahrain GP), he was fastest in P1 an hour ago so the 6/4 looks quite big to me. 5/4 on Betfair. P2 starts at 12pm, should be a healthy kick start to the day Laughing

interesting to see De Boitron coming in for support today when the stable have McCoy on the fav Divers in the 4.00 ; Lucy Alexander rides and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't she close to the most numbers of wins in a season by a lady Jockey - record held by Nina carberry ?? A little Each Way at a double figure price may bring some reward - worth keeping an eye on anyway Fingers Crossed

Quick question - why do the Tote's odds differ from Betfred's in the 4.00 Ayr ?? surely if they are the same company they should have the same prices Confused

Interesting to read Meehan's comments regarding his runner in the 2.10 @ Newbury. Any more informed members have any opinions on the race? Could be worth an ew on Meehan's runner (13/2) after reading the comments on his site....

SMOOTHTALKINRASCAL (Newbury 2.10 p.m.) This likeable Kodiac colt has proved very sharp in early work. Some other major stables who are traditionally competitive in early-season juvenile contests are represented, but Smoothtalkinrascal, who is well positioned in the centre of the field, carries plenty of stable confidence.
