I am extremely disappointed to see Cameron Highland make his reappearance in the 4.20 at Redcar. He is a well-bred and highly regarded colt who shaped with a lot of promise on his debut at Nottingham last autumn, and entries in both the Dante and Derby suggest top connections fully expect him to fulfil his undoubted potential. Therefore it is beyond me as to why they didn't wait a couple of weeks to run him in one of the better maidens at Newmarket or Newbury's trials meetings, rather than traipsing up north for a maiden over a distance that will likely prove a minimum this season; very much a watching brief now in terms of betting, though I do hope he wins well enough to at least be considered for a Classic trial of some description (perhaps something like the one at Sandown at the end of this month would fit the bill).
I have just noticed that Flexible Flyer makes his reappearance in the 3.55 at Warwick. He is a Hughie Morrison trained son of Exceed And Excel who is out of a dual 7f winning half sister to high-class 5-6f 2yo winner Nevisian Lad and the useful sprinter Woodnook, and he really caught the eye in a backend 6f maiden at Windsor in which he travelled nicely for a long way, but he ran green off the bridle and took a while to find his stride, finishing off well under considerate handling. He comes from a yard in very good form at the moment so fitness ought not to be too big an issue, and the extra furlong here should suit on the evidence of his debut run; offers decent value at 6.6 against the favourite IMO. _________________ Horses To Follow 2013 - Flat

One horse that is in my tracker runs today in the 17:05 Warwick - Follow the Flag. This old timer has dropped quite consderably in the weights having previously won off 82 on the turf. His last run was a 2nd to Zafrangar so has gone up 4lbs for that run - but still finds himself off a lowly 71 - now upped in trip and with Kelly back on board who has won with him, I think the 10/1 on offer is fair value. Very consistant sort who will give you a run for your money if you play. Ground maybe a slight concern if there has been a lot of rain throughout the day, however, if connections are concerned i'm sure they will pull him out. I fancy him to be there or thereabouts today. _________________ Slow and steady wins the race! |

I have a bit of an obsession with Nigel Twiston Davis runners at Bank Holiday meeting having missed out on an advised big winner. I always scan the cards to see his entrys on Bank Holidays as he seems to often go for a punt.
His only runner today that i could see was Royal Riviera in the 2.20 at Huntingdon. The horse has been in poor form despite seeming to be supported on previous runs. Its handicap mark has come down and is available at 16/1 and could be worth an Each Way interest. _________________ OLBG Community Manager. |

| In the concluding bumper at Fakenham I think Dora Canina has to stand a chance, bred more for the flat than the others and P Sly has an 18% strike rate with her bumper horses. It's a poor race that on pedigree she should be up to winning on debut. |

| Doctor Hilary in the 3.35 Yarmouth could run a big race. He is on the same rating as his last win on the AW and the handicapper seems to think he is better on the AW than turf and he has had more wins on the AW, but his place strike rate is better on the turf and intriguingly his highest rated win in the UK has been on Turf. He has been shaping as though 7 furlongs is a distance to suit and has so far only finished 2nd at the distance, but he has had only 2 runs. He should be suited by the Good to Soft ground as his better turf results since moving to M Hoads yard have been on GS or soft. |

There's always an overreaction with the fixtures on bank holiday's
9 cards and most of it is poor quality, no breaks between races
the question is why do it |

Because people have the day off so they can go racing. It makes sense tbh. I am concentrating just on Warwick and forgetting the rest.

Fancy one in the 2.00 Redcar today; SHES ROSIE around 8-1. She won off 65 and gone close off 67, prior to 8 months off the track. The horse returned on 20th March at Kempton, where she travelled well for three furlongs, up with the pace from a bad draw, eventually tiring and being given a tender ride (as you would expect on comeback, with a horse who has evidently had injury problems). However, it was beaten less than 4l and drops 1b today and I am expecting them to try harder today. Only had 8 handicap races and trainer does well over 5f on turf.
Good luck. |
