First in Command a shorty, but it won well Last week and this looks a very similar contest, cant see there is much to beat it.
Thoughts ?
Evens looks a good price. |

Jockey bookings are a minefield in the opener at Southwell.
Fanning rode the favourite Mataajir the last 4 times, he's off now with Martin Lane taking over.
Fanning has jumped onto the Jo Hughes trained second favourite Caledonia Prince, which would you make favourite?
Meanwhile Fitzpatrick is back on course and distance specialist General Tufto, previously ridden by Martin Lane.
Bit of a puzzler.
Of course, Community is in there as well off a low mark with blinkers first time, previously ridden over course and distance by Fanning - today with useful claimer Danny Brock in the saddle.

Mataajir's price is very low now |

Yeah I would have Caledonia fav without a doubt. Community is definitely of interest as well though, if I'm honest I see Tufto as just slightly weighted out of winning it but he'll definitely run his race.

I have gone NAP with Caledonia also, really can't see past it! But then I'm not normally right!
jmstocka - I'm a fan of Bookiesindexboy so will be interesting to see how it performs, 12/1 @ SkyBet looks good value ecspecially for some EW action |

11.40 - VAAL - MAIDEN PLATE
I havn't been around for some time but I would like to share some thoughts of todays racecard at the VAAL sandtrack. This opening contest over 5f looks wide open but we have got a few horses in here at long odds which could go well enough to be at least involved at the finish. One of them is PINK PROSPECT (12/1) who hasn't shown that much in both of her two starts but is still open to plenty of improvement and this is not going to be the toughest field here. Not the one to count on but shouldn't be ruled out too early at such a fair price. Another outsider who could go well is TIME TO FLY (16/1) who hasn't done bad at all on her latest sand effort against the boys. She improved with each run and has got a small chance to be at least involved here in my opinion. SHAAHIRA (4/1) looks a worthy favourite at a fair price. She has fair form and is well suited to todays distance as she has finished twice second over todays distance. She has got the potential to lose her maiden tag very soon and shouldn't be ruled out too early. Sherman Brown booked to take the ride and worth a small bet at least.
12.15 - VAAL - MAIDEN PLATE
Very interesting and open contest over the extended 7f and a few horses in here who could give todays favourite soemthing to think about. One of them is HAZELWOOD (8/1) who looks overpriced for me. This is going to be her sand debut and there is no guarantee that she will be suited to todays ground but she shouldn't be ruled out too early. She was drawn very wide when last seen and could has got more to offer today and the point that she looks very well handicapped is another positive for me. She could be able to run at least into minor money here at a very fair price. She has changed stables since last seen and could be one to look out for. SET TO STRIKE (16/1) is overpriced in my opinion and could be one to surprise at long odds. No doubts, she looks held safe on what she has shown in her last efforts but I've heard some positive stuff about her and I've got the feeling that she could be involved if back to her best. She has got a bit to find but this jockey change could help her to improve again. TOTAL CHAOS (66/1) is one of the biggest outsiders in here and has shown little in both of her two turf starts but could improve on todays surface and looks very well drawn. Same with BUTTERFLY KNOT (14/1) who is drawn very wide but this is going to be much easier and she has got a shout in this field at long odds. Well handicapped today and one to look out for. Backed all of my four mentioned horses with small eachway bets. Good luck if you decide to follow! _________________ ..i love this horse |

Bookiesindexboy hasn't won for 2 years, usually travels well then throws
in the towel, think I'd have a better chance if you saddled me up |

| I think the best chance on the Southwell card this afternoon comes in the 16:30 in the shape of ADMIRABLE DUQUE. He's 2 from 2 at the track (100%), 4 from 10 at the distance (40%). Trainer is 2 from 7 in the last twelve months at the track (29%) and 2 from 4 this year (50%). He's also 3 from 7 in today's eye blinkers (43%) for which is 3 from 6 in handicaps (50%). Comes into the race in splendid form, winning his last two and is just seven pounds higher than his easy success here last time out. Darren Egan claims 7lbs and been ridding out of his skin over the past fortnight, winning 3 and placing a further 5 times from just 18 rides. Currently a 7/2 chance. |
