| My feeling remains that owners and connections make a lot of money from laying their own horses. Kuarto Star didnt try today and hadnt recovered from its injury on the gallops but yet still entered. Felt and looked wrong. Im pretty certain that horse will race again. |

Lookaround, I am sure Kauto Star will never run again. The horse owes racing absolutely nothing.
They were looking to retire last season but after it was turned out in the field it came back according to Nicholls as good as ever, however this time around he has nothing to gain.
Nicholls always said he would never retire a horse at the top of his game, hence after the King George he said he will go to Cheltenham as why not.
Again this time things are different. There would be a risk if he ran again and I see no reason why he or the owner would do that.
It will take a while to see what is the outcome of yesterday as to why he ran so flat, but I don't think it was due to his training accident a week or so ago so they was right to have a go.
Most of the moaning about him running will come from those that backed him, but I think you will find very few serious punters that thought 4/1 or around that mark was a good price as it was 3miles plus at Cheltenham for a race an 11 year old or above has won once. So you pay your money you take your chance but Kauto is a legend and brought joy to millions on his day and deserves a long happy retirement. |

The trainer has said the horse is 'fit and well today' and the jockey did everything he was told to do. That horse is a cashcow for their owners in tough times and I just felt it stank a little on friday. It just felt like the horses was running unfit only to sell the Friday out on Gold cup day. But as you say, no serious punters touched it and most bets on it were negative ones on the exchanges. I dont like Betfair and the like as it 'encourages' the chances to corrupt racing through their exchanges.

Lookaroundcafe, you are entitled to your views of course... but this one is total rubbish. There is no way that connections would risk injury to the horse by running him any less than 100% after what he has done for them and for racing in general. No possible way. _________________ "The problem with the future is that there are more things that could happen than will happen" - Plato (liberally paraphrased)

Cheltenham will not go 5 days, or more to the point should not go 5 days.
There was a good point made on talk sport on Tuesday(only point I've ever thought was good on there) it went
Cheltenham had the 4 mid week days and with it a lot of tv coverage and news sport coverage. Th build up to Fridays Gold Cup and then the winner in the evening news. It pretty much had the sports works at its mercy.
Run the Gold Cup on Saturday and today they would be competing with
Six nations final matches, and who knows what could be happening on the last day of that, like this year Wales grand slam or even England six nation winners.
FA Cup Quarter Finals
Premier league fixtures
Why Would they miss such a great exposure and get it mixed up in the middle,of a busy Saturday sporting calendar. |

Overall a brilliant Cheltenham again tempered with a few very sad losses.
Big well done to all the winners of the OLGB tipping competition especially Fluffnut, what a great name, deserves a prize on its own, 'her indoors' loves it!! Well done to those 'toilet tipsters' another coup for the brains at OLGB HQ. |

I think it should definatley NOT happen. Let's leave one NH Festival for the real racing fans. Put the prices up and keep out the P8issheads
The day it happens is a sad day for me. It's inevitable though. I prefer wholly Tues to Thurs - Friday is a nightmare and i know of a good number of people that will not be going next year because of it. That number will increase ten fold if it goes to a saturday and i guarantee here and now, the day it does, i will never see another gold cup at Cheltenham _________________ It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed. |

| Best Mate died on the track! Owners generally dont give a crap about horses when they stop earning, why over 5000 horses are put down every year to save on trainers and stabling fees. I just feel K-Star was entered to generate revenue for Cheltenham and the big earn the negatives on the exchanges. That horse would never have have raced ten years ago as there was nothing to gain. poor. |
