It is estimated that over 7,000 racegoers come over from Ireland for the Cheltenham Festival.
They help generate more than £50M revenue that goes into the local economy, through shops, hotels, pubs etc... amazing !...£50M !!!
Irish trained horses win on average a third of the races at the meeting. Last years 13 winners was a record ( it has only been a four day meeting since 2005)
So this year there could be 6-10 winners perhaps?
Hurricane Fly ( Champion Hurdle) Quevega ( David Nicholson Mares Hurdle) and Sizing Europe ( Queen Mother Chase) are obvious contenders
Who are the other possible Irish trained winners ?
Please keep your comments to Irish trained horses... would especially like to have comments from our Irish members but all contributions welcome |

They do well in the Handicap Hurdles, they had What A Charm, Carlito Brigante, Final Approach and Sir Des Champs win last year. _________________ Cheltenham Ante-Post Book

| Im a big fan of Boston Bob. I just wish I knew which race Mr Mullins was going to run him in. He could go for the Neptune Investments as he hacked up over 2m5f [the Mikael D'haguenet route] but the trainer says hes going to run over 3m next, which could lead to the Albert Bartlett. Does anyone have any ideas? |

Roger
Of the 3 horses you mentioned i would think only 1 of those will win this win year, and that is probably Quevega.
Rubi Light will never stay the Gold Cup distance but might take some pegging back if he runs in the Ryanair Chase and @ 8/1 he might well be getting some of my money _________________ My Twitter Page = Toonmick70

Roger
In the Champion Hurdle i am worried about the lack of a run for Hurricane Fly, he had 2 previous runs prior to winning the Irish Champion Hurdle in January last year, i know Willie Mullins has said he is pleasing them on the gallops but i think he isn't running because they have had a problem with him.
If he hoses up in Ireland then i can probably see him going very close @ Cheltenham but i have my doubts and at the price he is he can be opposed.
Regarding the Champion Chase and Sizing Europe, he didn't really beat much in the Tingle Creek, Kauto Stone finished 2nd but was only having his 2nd run and is actually still a novice, 3rd placed Cornas is a decent horse in his own right but was WELL behind Sizing Europe in last season's Champion Chase.
Big Zeb has won well twice so far this season and he ran a stinker when he ran in the Tingle Creek in 2009 then won the Champion Chase, Finian's Rainbow also comes into the reckoning after a good novice campaign, we will see how good he is on Saturday @ Ascot.
I am not sure that Henry De Bromhead can keep Sizing Europe in peak fitness this long, that's just my opinion mate
Good luck with your bets if you have backed the 3 in cross doubles and treble _________________ My Twitter Page = Toonmick70

Thanks Micko Sound Reasoning
I have not backed any of them as at current odds there is no value whatsover
Does not mean that they wont win, simply not worth backing at the price
Come the day, they may well be good value . There will be better Each Way value in their respective races who have every chance of winning in their own right. |

Hi Roger, Stan from Larne does the rounds in Ireland, and Emails me with goings on, he visits the tracks and keeps a low profile, but will post when there is news, i had a nice priced winner last week from him, but you want Cheltenham bound news so i will keep it to that. _________________ Trading or Betting Blogs & System section Daily Lays

Thanks Turfline
We have trials day on Saturday at Cheltenham, but only six Irish trained horses entered !
2 in the Triumph Hurdle trial, 2 in the Neptune Novices Hurdle, and 2 in the Cleeve hurdle ( will Mourad take on Big Bucks ? )
There is also the big card at Leopardstown on Saturday.
I am not sure the Irish have the strength in depth this year.
Because of the economic situation in Ireland, I think far more young horses have been sold to UK yards over the last couple of years e.g Fingal's Glen
I know they will have the odd handicap snip tucked away, and of course maybe a bumper winner, but it is hard to see them having nearly as many winners as last year. |
