If anyone is looking for a freebie then Betfair Rapid might be suitable.
http://promo.Betfair.com/rapid/
Free download. 0.2 second refresh rate. One-click betting. Fill or Kill. WOM.
I am trialing it this week but initial impressions are that its good for a basic freebie. |
The above post was made by Betfairalfie.
Could someone explain what the terms mentioned mean?
One click bet? WOM? Fill or kill?
I am in the position where some kind of techno-edge in the use of the exchange would be very useful right now.
However, as a total techno-phobe I am reticent to get involved in software before I understand a bit more.
Mainly I am a 'back to Lay' merchant on horse racing and am mainly backing in the 6.0 to 10.0 range in handicaps and putting in 'keep' lays at various odds BEFORE the off. Mainly this because if I try to input lays in running I never get matched (price changes quicker than I can input)
This of course leads to two things:
1) end up laying winners at, say, 5/2 when I've backed em at 10.0
2)not laying losers which I have backed.
Clearly I can do better so any help would be appreciated.
ps I would start a blog on my 'back to lays' but I am still a noob and am not allowed so it will have to wait. |

one click bet - as it says on tin u click once and it bets rather than having to line bet up, click, confirm, click.
wom - weight of money. its an indicator of price. if there are more sellers than buyers the price will drift, if there are more buyers than sellers the price will fall. wom indicator is a % value. 0 means price is moving downwards rapidly, 100 means up rapidly, midranges means hasnt decided which way its going.
fill or kill - when u place the order at a certain amount its either all matched or cancelled.
they are mostly things u can get by without while u start. when u get better u can take more note of them.
if im backing horses i often tier my opposing bets. eg if i back a horse with £10 at 10, i may Lay £2 off at 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 then Lay a larger amount beneath evens to balance the books further. u can alter those odds as u wish according to how confident u r on horse and how u feel itll run etc. _________________ Positions are available in the OLBG Lottery syndicate. Yes thanks for the reply
have been doing back to Lay since 2003 and it works well...
I guess my main issue is that I spend far more time making the selections and less doing the trades.
Yes I too will put in a range of prices before the off depending on run style (front runner, hold up etc) and degree of confidence.
so not a NOOB on Betfair, just on software |

I am happy to bump this back to the top again for the exchange newbies.
If you are new to exchanges, make sure you have the "verify bets" box ticked. Its on the BF Place Bets screen. Just like the OLBG confirm tip page it allows you to check the bet (and amount risked) before it is placed. It slows you up a little but will save the exchange novice from making silly mistakes or falling for "trap bets". Trust me - I speak from experience |

Hi
Very useful thread for newbies this. Im now in a position that I understand the risks of Spread Betting and feel I can control them. I am just reseaching some medium risk markets for the sports im interested in... Football, Golf, Snooker, maybe cricket.
It seems like you have to be pretty sharp to get an edge on the compilers so any pointers would be grateful.
Not opened an account yet as I need to get a strategy worked out.
Oh, do all markets go in play with the spreads and if not, is this defined on the coupon?
Thanks |

Harry
Not all spread markets go live in play, it will tell you if they are going to be live on the site, they also suspend markets a lot, any sign of player being injured in a football match and the market is suspended in a flash so you need to be careful with your open positions
You should have opened a SportingIndex account before yesterday as they were giving you £100 to play with no risk keep what you win after 14 days
Good luck _________________ Follow me on Twitter |

machine - no, never heard of it or used it.
I have heard decent reports about a freebie called The Geeks Toy though if anyone is interested. Worth a google. |
