|
|
|
So the first of the semi finals has been decided and these sides have recent competitive form with Spain winning 1-0 against Portugal in the second round of the last World Cup.
Portugal set their stall out to defend against the Germans and were very negative in that match considering they have some decent attacking talent (Ronaldo's not bad I suppose) and they could use the same tactics again again, either way they'll probably struggle to break down Spain who havent conceded a knockout goal at a major tournament for six years!
For me Spain will be a fair bet to win but I'm more interested in Spain to win to nil and Spain to win 1-0.
What does everyone else fancy for this match? Which team is making it to the final here? |

Before the tournament started i had 2 name the finalist bets.
I backed Germany & Spain @ 8/1 and also Germany & Portugal @ 30/1, both with SkyBet.
I also backed Portugal ew @ 20/1(on my blog here to see)
But when i done my group b preview i actually picked Denmark to finish 2nd.
So i am guaranteed to win if Portugal win the match but with me also backing Germany to win the tournament i don't really mind who gets through if Germany get through as the stakes were different and i will win almost the same no matter what.
Spain play the ball around for fun but Portugal & Cristiano Ronaldo will give them something they haven't played yet - Skill.
Spain have just done enough to get through and this will be their toughest test so far.
The only bet i can see for this that i think is a good bet is for both teams to score @ 13/10 |

The even money for Spain is large if I'm honest, the way they keep the ball will be too much for Portugal - especially in the centre of the park with Veloso and meireles struggling to deal with the class of Iniesta and Xavi. _________________ brewsty39 |

Ronaldo v Spain.
Portugal seem all about the counter attack and with Spains attacking nature they could leave themselves exposed at the back.
Ronaldo looks Portugals main goalscoring threat and will be right up for this game v more than half the barcelona squad.
But saying all that Spain will dominate in position trying to walk the ball into the back of the net and i think putting pressure on the Porutgese defence will expose them, they always tend to let in a goal.
France showed that getting at Spain does cause them problems and I dont think portugal are the type of team to try and defend for 90 minutes.
will be a good little game with goals I think.
Both teams to Score
Over 2.5 Goals
Evens for Spain win is too big not to take. |

Ronaldo V Spain.
Ronaldo the danger man Spain have to watch on counter attacks. |
Portugal done well this euros, and feel they could upset Spain fine record,
Winning Euro and World Cup, and another SF.
Think this be close match, an odd goal will decide it.
Check the score odds later on
And Ronaldo still in with a shout for the Golden Boot..
Portugal to win in 90 mins 4/1
And maybe 2-1 win to Portugal...
Hopefully its the year of the Underdogs.. |

| You'll have to excuse me here, im writing from my mobile. Portugal at 7-2 with Bet365 to have most corners, looks to offer significant value. Spain tend to play through the centre and for all their possession do not always win that many corners (gaining only 6 against France, although 11 against Croatia). Although only gaining 6 corners to Denmark's 7 , against Germany, Portugal won the corners market 11-2 and 11-6 against the Czechs. |

I know what you are saying tomsky but looking at spains previous euro matches while they havent got that many corners, their opponents have had hardly any. Not surprising as they dont have the ball much
Spains last matches
Spain 7 France 3
Spain 11 Croatia 4
Spain 8 Ireland 2
Spain 7 Italy 2
So will Spain give Portugal enough of the ball to make those numbers? |

Counter attacks will be Spain worry.
And Ronaldo on form.
So counter attacks will make up for the corners
As Portugal can launch attack clearance from the corner,
and catch out Spain.
Shall be watching this one, not sure about other one,
as think that game will be a dull one.
While this games both sides will attack more, and the
game will open up, and mistakes be made. |

Spain play in a way extremely similar to Barcelona(obviously coming from all the influence of the players) and they will dominate in the midfield, keeping possession and performing most of the passes on the night. They do however miss having a great forward (such as messi) to pass the telling ball into and finish for them. Without Torres starting and being in great form, they will not get a massacre of goals. One or two goals(but no more) will come from all the possession and a neat pass for someone to figuratively walk the ball into the back of the net.
Portugal have no centre forward to boast about, but have ronaldo to do any sort of finishing for them, he will be the man to watch tonight. Although he is devastating from long range, he will not have enough of the ball/space to shoot from range, which can be said for all of the portuguese team. Ronaldo will miss the passes coming from the genius Ozil, but i still think he will snatch a goal by running through the centre backs, by making a run as seen in the Denmark game.
Pepe and his defensive squad will be enough to keep Spain under control for most of the match, but spain will capitalize on any mistake made.
Extremely hard game to call, either team could clinch a place in the final with a goal. My bet will be on a draw tonight, gonna be an extremely exciting game |

Portugal Vs Spain - PORTUGAL OR DRAW
"This looks alot closer thsn the odds are suggesting and im quite confident from what ive seen of these two sides that Portugal can at least take this to extra time and maybe win. Portugal played well in the group stage and with a little help from a really poor holland side they went through aling with germany. They lost their first game against germany playing what will probably be the same way here. They look dangerous going forward and although not quite as good at the back, they did well to hold germany for most of that game. It will be a tougher task stopping spains attacking threat but they are confident and in high spirits after a good run. Spain got the job done in the group stage and saw off a pretty poor france side in the quarters. They have conceded only one goal but at times do look a little vulnerable. With their full backs getting caught out a few times and Pique/Ramos looking to attack, they can be got at. Casillas has had a good tournament though and has saved them a few times. I prefer to see them when they have a striker but even with the false 9 they are still dangerous. Iniesta has been consistant but hasnt quite fired for me yet while Silva was poor against france but i expect all to be firing now in the semis. I can see portugal defending well here and causing problems on the counter. "
PORTUGAL OR DRAW (double chance)
portugal +0.50 (AH)
