ASCOT AND HAMILTON are TURF (not NH - no jumps or NHF - just flat racing there today!)

Note - Hamilton only ever has Turf.

Ascot has either Turf or NH and sometimes both. Again, clue is if they are on the flat (Turf) or over the jumps or NHF (NH)

Hi mate.

You seem to have developed a mental block on this. It really is very straight forward.

Look at the race description. If it says Hurdle, Chase or NHF it is NH (JUMPS)

If the meeting is AW then it is always shown as AW (FLAT)

All the rest are Turf (FLAT).

There are very occasional meetings that are a mixture of AW and Turf (Lingfield and Southwell). The AW races at such meetings are shown as AW.

Extra clue: If all the races are all 2 miles or over then it is almost certainly a NH meeting. If there are races of 1 1/2 miles or under then it is almost certainly AW or Turf.

There are also very occasional meeting s that are a mixture of NH and Turf. The same distance rule applies but fundamentally, if the race is Hurdle, Chase or NHF then it is NH. Otherwise it is Turf.

Don't worry too much as, time permitted, I shall always pick up any errors as my trainer system is split into the various codes.

Oh yes.

Another pointer is that Turf racing only takes place from March to November (inclusive). The weather during the winter months is too harsh for Turf - mud and ice etc - a problem for both the horses (travelling at great speed) and the maintenance of the turf! AW is, of course an artificial surface and not so dependent on the weather.

National Hunt horses are more robust than their flat counterparts and travel at a much reduced speed due to the obstacles. The ground can cut up but the size of NH courses allows for movement of the rails to cut off and allow for recovery of badly damaged ground. Flat AW and Turf courses are more restricted in this respect and cannot adjust quite so easily although there is usually some smaller margin available.

I followed your instructions step by step and putting this in colour scheme made it easier for me, I think I may have cracked it but early day's, I'll need to double check each time, thanks for putting the info together.

I would say that you can put your feet up for a few hours but then your needed to analayze more stats and discover hidden gems and eliminate any loosing ones, more important work ahead mate
