Thought I'd get the discussion underway for the domestic cups this season:
FA Cup
Chelsea have been the team to back in the FA Cup in recent seasons, they've won four of the last six FA Cups which is an amazing achievement. Chelsea are traditionally a very tough team to beat which is key to success in the FA Cup and although I fancy Spurs to go very well in this season's competition at an overpriced 11/1, I think Chelsea are the team to go with once again as I don't think they will be in the title race come April/May.
7/1 with BetVictor - yes please!
Capital One Cup
I'm going to stick to calling this the League Cup as I won't get used to calling it the Capital One Cup until their sponsorship ends in all likelihood. Most people will probably be looking to back a team just outside of the elite as they are more likely to take it a bit more seriously (a sound strategy last season with Liverpool winning it) but it's worth noting that five of the last eight League Cups have been won by Chelsea or Man Utd. I think Man Utd probably would have made that six out of eight last season if they hadn't messed up against Crystal Palace and as a team who have won two of the last four League Cups they clearly take it seriously enough to do pretty well. Man City are favourites but there will be plenty of Champions League pressure for them this season and the Carling Cup will be at the very bottom of their priorities.
I was expecting 6/1 but I see Bet365 and BetVictor have gone 9/1 - very generous indeed in my eyes.
I'll be having two singles and a double on these selections. |

| put Liverpool to win the lower tournaments since they obviously can't win the premiership league this is their only chance for a trophy, while the bigger teams are occupied with bigger tournaments and play weaker in the smaller competitions |

| Liverpool will certainly be strong contenders in the cups, especially the League Cup again. I think they will come up short in both though, but they certainly look a decent trade at the very least as I'd expect them to reach the quarters/semis of both competitions. If the 'bigger' clubs are still in at that stage though I'd expect them to take care of Liverpool. |
