I've noticed that people here around prefer to read tips rather than stats, hence I will second the general trend.

Hi Ametista,

We have a wide cross section of members all with differing levels of knowledge on different sports.

Some may be more knowledgable on say football and novices on cricket.

Stats are very helpful and a lot of members use them - maybe some text with a brief explanation and then the stats would be the way to go?

I enjoyed reading the US Open stats.

Maybe people didn't think they were that interesting, or perhaps they were confused by the "home" and "away" headings.

And I'd disagree with that statement, a lot of people on here have plenty of time for stats as well as tips just that usually people add a little bit more than just a bunch of numbers that can be collected off the web in 10 minutes.

If you put in the effort on OLBG and take just a little bit of time to explain where you're coming from with the numbers and more importantly where you are going then people will respond.

Well guys, I'm stll being run in here around, so my actual impressions might be mistaken.

Jimmy2 statement
Quote:
Maybe people didn't think they were that interesting
may reveal a partial truth, a bit acid if I can, but it does not solve my doubts about the few views (a pre content-knowledge judgement belongs to sorcerers and I don't see any here around, hence wanting forcefully to say something like the ones who can't hold their tongue by any means, it's the topic itself -and/or the writer - and not the content being judged not interesting).

Also, wanting to talk about the content, the fact that disaggregated datas can be found everywhere, doesn't mean that the stats provided by this thread are hosted by any other site (I give you 1 year to pm the link).
Equally, if what you claim about the use of stats would be true, then I don't see why one should go for disaggregated datas having the possibility to have ready-to-use filtered ones, or at least I think so not being a solar torches developer.

Last, but not least, like it can be easily seen in every serious full-stats site, numbers need to be aseptic right because their interpretation is left to the reader, and this brings me back to my original statement "people here around prefer to read tips rather than stats": this kind of threads hasn't anything to share with tipping activity, but just to pure community service one.

However, instead of filling boards of bothersome threads, posts and personal visions, thing which could be read such as an attention seeking aim, I will do right the opposite.

Few weeks ago I've written -help board- that this Community appeared to me very closed: I confirm that feeling, adding that it's not about developers but about average members selfish and immature attitude.

A quick look at the tennis threads on here, the number of posts/replies and the very small number of people posting on these threads (apart of course from the competition threads) should highlight the fact that tennis is very far down the pecking order on OLBG in terms of interest as regards people contributing on this forum, I'm sure you will find many more people taking part in the tipping competition and blogging but not on the actual forum.

I wouldn't judge the whole forum/site on the response received on the tennis forum, and to be honest reading some of your posts it could well be that a lot of what you are posting is going over the heads of people who might look and be interested...Sure a few will get what you mean and be intrigued but if you want to get a wider audience you may need to change your approach Wink

Jesus Christ, what's wrong with everyone on here? Embarassed

Coming from someone who studies over stats for hours and hours (Tipping on US Sports and Tennis is all about the collation of views based on stats) I have to say this mud flinging is all a little bit unecessary and out of hand.

Tipping and Blogging on any sporting tip is all about the marriage of both stats and narrative. An appreciation of the stats that go behind the theory and substance behind the tip is what serious betting is. If it isn't then it's called 'punting'. There's a difference between a 'punter' and a 'bettor'

No one has actually criticised your contribution Ametista as far as I see. Far from it the US Sports stuff you put together on Baseball etc was top stuff. I think what people are referring to is simply the fact that stats alone can be pulled from a number of sources if anyone wishes to put the effort in. I would argue it's a lot more than a 10 minute job in all honesty like, but this site is about both.

I think that's very disrespectful. I can agree that someones personal view and vision about a bet is sometimes weak if it's just a hunch or an unpartizan reasoning, but you filter the quality from the chaff- and that's usually where the stats come in to back up your claim.

You are making some bold claims in other threads about how you will be a pro tipster, etc. There are plenty of Pro-tipsters and bloggers on here who are achieving that and have a track record f achieving that through both narrative and stats and maybe they're just interested to know your thoughts, not just the stats is all. Stats are facts and it's very hard to respond and reply to stats on the forum as they are just that - stats. You are doing what you''ve already said you're doing which is providing a service, not an opinion. It's not a criticism from me at all as I am a self confessed anal when it comes to stats by the way!

Everyone should calm down a bit! Win

Only problem I have with the statistic is that it is treated like a football match referring to home and away players. Is Maria Sharapova for example on the away ticket having been born in Russia or is she on the home ticket since she s actually from Florida and certainly a home favorite?

Few years ago I made many decisions in the WTA based on where she s from and usually whenever Russia met America did it work in my favor (backing the Russian player). Ofcourse this was then. More poignantly would be a statistic based on nationality.

There's a lot wrong with reading stats cold. That's why you have to do your own research and put theory behind it which is the point that's being made.

The 'underdog' stats for instance are wholly arbitrary. You can have an underdog at odds of 21.00 in a tennis match or underdogs of 2.1

The differences in the chances of those two respective underdogs winning is a world apart!

Djokovic just wouldn t be if he was nt the proud Serbian. Or are we going to see an emergence of Chinese girls taking on the WTA tour in the next decade?

Consider that a match Li Na plays is broadcast on primetime Chinese television or that the president of Serbia is present at a Djokovic match stating Djokovic winning Wimbledon was the greatest ambassadors achievement for Serbia since the Kosovo war. This weighs into the players mentality more than just playing at home or away.
The USOpen isn t necessarily the Davis Cup with the US playing the rest of the world despite the septic climate of a redneck yelling out USA now and then.

McHale, C - Kirilenko, M
1,85
1,92

the Russian is the better player or will McHale pull through playing at home?

stats are only guides. it's up to us to interpret them Wink and people here probably read tips more often because, well, it's mainly a tipping site Very Happy [/quote]
