Hi all
The Nationwide Tour heads to San Francisco as one of the city's favourite sons hosts the Stonebrae Classic from the TPC Stonebrae. The event hosted by former 49'er Jerry Rice is now into it's 4th year with Daniel Chopra winning last year, and also here this week is the 2009 winner Michael Sim.
The form guy on tour is Camilo Benedetti my pick from last week who had his 2nd 5th placed finish in a row. An ok record here with 39th on debut last year.
Looking at my list from last year my pick was 100-1 shot Luke List, he made me happy as well being 2nd in the rain shortened event. That followed his 12th in 2010, so he likes it around here with just 1 even par round in 7, and apart from the opening par round in 2010, he has shot 68 or better here every time. Good form this season with 4 cuts from 5 & a 2nd in Panama & 9th last week to bounce back from the one missed cut.
My other 2 thoughts were alongside List in 12th in 2010, they are Alistair Presnell & Rob Oppenheim. That was Presnell’s only visit here, inconsistent this year with 3 missed cuts & 3 top 25 finishes in 6 events, inc 3rd last week. Whilst Oppenheim played last year and was 14th here, like List he also only has 1 round over 68 here, in the 2nd round last year when he shot a 72. Again though inconsistent with 2 cuts from 5, but has been 4th & 5th in those two cuts made.
If you really fancy an outsider, the host & former San Francisco 49er Jerry Rice is now a golf pro & in the field at a mere 5,000-1. Yet to break 75 in 4 rounds though, a finish 3rd from last would be an improvement.
The inconsistency of the last two put me of and so I will stick with my pick from last year Luke List.
Hello Jimmy-
You were looking a bit lonely so I thought I'd pipe in with a couple of selections to keep you company!
Andrew Svoboda His name keeps coming up whenever I have a look in on the Nationwide tour website. Playing well and with his consistence he might just get a win here.
Justin Hicks- t5th last week t5th here in 2010- can hopefully better it this week.
Good luck Jimmy and anyone else having a go here,
dave
