The following competition is simple. There will be one race picked at random each day and you have to try find the winner. Although with this comp rather than just typing the name of the horse you think will win you have to write up why you think they will win aswell.

Anyone who doesn't put in the effort and writes something like "I fancy X to win because he is white and they are faster", "I like his name", "my friend told me so" etc. etc. won't be considered nor will any copy + pasting from other sites.

YOU MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 4 SEPERATE POINTS ON WHY YOU FANCY THE HORSE.

So what we're looking for here is for you to look at the race and come up with a selection. Then post the name of the horse and write a few lines which must consist of more than 30 words with at least 4 seperate points on why you fancy it and that's it.

* If you want you can enter a second selection (must have write-up also) just in case your first choice turns out to be a non-runner and you don't have time to post again.

* If a race hasn't been posted after the selected race, please feel free to do so. The race for that day must be completed.There is no time schedule

* You may not edit your post at any time. If your selection is a non-runner then just make a new post in the thread with your new pick.

* In the case of a selected race not going ahead due to a meeting being abandoned / unforeseeable circumstances then there will be two races selected for the following day instead.

* When selecting races, please refrain from MAIDENS/NOVICE events including BEGINNER CHASES as these can be difficult in placing a reasoning to.

* HANDICAPS and HIGHER CLASS races are the ones preferred.
1st = 30pts + 5x SP
2nd = 20pts + 3x SP
3rd = 10pts + 2x SP
4th = 4pts + 1 x SP
5th = 1pts + 1 x SP

To encourage people to look away from favourites aswell there will be bonus points for the price of the horse as shown above. This means that if someone picks a 2/1 horse that wins they will get 40pts (30 for winning and then 5 times 2/1 is 10 -> 30+10=40) while if someone picks a 10/1 shot that comes second they will get 50pts (20+30=50).

PRIZES

1st = £10

2nd = £5

Everdon Brook

Gets distance, in fine form been placed 5 times in his last 6 starts.
Has been placed in his last 4 starts.
Class trying class 3 for first time, has been placed in class 4 and
the owners think he ready now for class 3.
Weight has nice weight of 10-0, as Brook claimer has taken -5 off
his back, going has won once on gd to st, so should cope with the soft.
Jockey Brook got his regular jockey and claimer on, who won on
him 4 times
Brook if he copes step up in class, he running well, and can make
the frame.

Cheers meoldmate for early post.

Spring getting closer.. Yes

CATTERICK 2 45

ROMANY RYME

LIGHTLY RACED 7-Y-O RAN WELL AFTER A BREAK OF 7 MONTHS LTO,DOESNT LOOK OVERBURDEN FOR HIS FIRST RUN IN A HANDICAP,STEP UP IN DISTANCE SHOULD SUIT THIS POINT WINNER,STABLE DOING OK THIS SEASON 12% IN HANDICAPS WITH A 33% S/R AT CATTERICK,ROMANY RYME MAY EVENTUALLY HAVE A FUTURE OVER FENCES BUT IN WHAT LOOKS A COMPETITVE RACE RACE COULD BE UP TO SUPRISING A FEW HARDENED HANDICAPPERS.

EVERAARD

The selection has won off a higher mark than this over fences and is in good form after winning last time at musselburgh.He will stay this distance and has won a couple of times at three miles.Also ground should not be a problem as he has won on different types of ground in the past.Tell me y was very dissapointing last time when well fancied but if back to his best will be a big danger here.

Green Wizard

Not the youngest in the race, but looks to be one on the upgrade. Ran really well last twic over nearly 3m and came 2nd and 4th. Latest 4th was "really" second as he was eased near the line.
Ground not a worry and with a bit more restraint could go all the way in this tight handicap. Does have the same mark as last time out which gives him a definite squeek.
good jockey on board and stable mate seems to be out of his debt (ran over sprints on the flat)

Romany Ryme

Going with this former pointer who is suely open to improvement and has scope. The 7yo ran for the first time since May last year at the the start of January, running a decent third to Green Flag in an Ayr novice hurdle in heavy, having every chance turning in but outpaced towards the end. This field is a much of a muchness and Romany Ryme might well come on enough for that run to improve the necessary amount and play a part here.

EVERAARD

Everaard has good form at Musselburgh, where he has won five times. Only raced here once and this was back in January 2011 and was beaten a fair distance, of 36 lengths, on good to soft ground. Comes here today in better form as he won at Musselburgh, 31 days ago and could be a leading player. Stepping up in class from class four to a class three handicap and in doing so has a lighter weight, also changing fences to hurdles and still can make a mark against a few of these. This course is a sharp track and Everaard might be suited by the sharpe turns and it could be similar to Musselburgh with it's flatness. Nice price to consider in this race.

Well done to petethebet and ducu. Unlucky ejanbow for missing out narrowly in January Comp

Thanks meoldmate for running the competition. Your hard work is much appreciated.

2.45 CATTERICK
Cheltenham Preview Evening March 1st Handicap Hurdle - 3m 1f 110y.

Everdon Brook.........David Thompson yard in Bolam, Co Durham the 8yo has had 4 runs since coming to new yard with Tony Kelly on board previously with Ben Case yard.

Its last run was on January 1st at Fakenham 3m hcp Hurdle soft where it lost race in run in hopefully the yard worked on its stamina, He has won three hurdle races and a chase from 2m 4f to 3m 2f on good and good to soft ground.

Jockey Tony Kelly has recieved 5lbs in last race and gets the allowance again today ,

Bit of luck (I hope!) that this race is chosen since I already posted this as today's NAP:

"I'll give SWISS ART another chance. IT was made fav last time out and something was obviously amiss as it pulled up. It can't have been anything lasting though since it re-appears quite quickly and if it is fully restored it has the form to go very close here at these weights and the claimer means it gets up to 27lbs from the others"

I think over 3 miles + on softish ground the weight allowance could be very significant as could be teh step up in trip. The horse hasn't been with Sue Smith that long and the yard has obviously decided it will be suited by a traip - and it has already proved it goes on soft/heavy ground

GREEN WIZARD

One of the least exposed runners in the race, this will be only his second hcap run today. Ran ok on hcap debut an will apprieciate stronger handling today R Mania takes ride from 7lb claimer (who also has a ride in the race.)
Green Wizard has shown best form in testing conditions and may enjoy the step up in trip.

Catterick ~ 14:45 ~ EVERDON BROOK

Trained by David Thompson, And Riden by Tony Kelly.

This 8 year old has been in decent Form since October last year, Reading 15211-2, Coming 2nd from 6 Runners in Last Race, One and Three Quarter Lengths behind SMART EXIT in a 3 mile Class 4 Handicap Hurdle on todays Soft Surface at Fakenham on New Years Day.
Tony Kelly is Re-Booked today, Having Riden this 4 times previous (Last 4 Races), With Form Reading an impressive 211-2, Worth noting in those 4 Races is its 2 impressive Wins.
Having Won from 15 Runners in Race before Last, When Beating UNCUT STONE by Two and Three Quarter Lengths over todays distance of 3 mile 1 furlong Class 5 Handicap Hurdle at Mussleburgh in Mid-December.... And... When Winning from just 4 Runners, Beating FUTURE DOMINION by an impressive Fourteen Lengths in a 3 mile Class 5 Novice Handicap Hurdle at Fakenham in late November.
So with having shown such impressive recent Form, With having also shown improved Form from before October, And since November under the guidance of Tony Kelly, With having also recently Won over todays Distance, And come a respectable 2nd on todays Surface in Last Race, I'm taking this to mount a Challenge for a Top 3 Placing.
Fingers Crossed
