Dont know if anyone off here was there but...
I just saw a video of a massive brawl that took place in front of the bookies on Saturday afternoon..
Where were the police ?
15 or so stewards just wernt getting paid enough to wade in and stop that....
Its about time the race courses policed them properly,if they are going to let in coach loads of what looked like football hooligans to mix with the real racing fans that include women and children.
Horse racing is in a bad enough state without these sort of incidents... _________________ Always Trying..... |

I don't give a toss what they do to each other in South Wales, but why the hell did they have to take it to a venue of a different sport and taint racing's image with their ignorance.
It isn't the security guys fault here, what can they do? If they get involved they look as bad as them. Give them guns, thats what I say!

I notice this comment from some eejit on youtube... not in the old days mate, they would not have taken it to another sporting venue when there's perfectly good streets... _________________ "The problem with the future is that there are more things that could happen than will happen" - Plato (liberally paraphrased)

I worked as a steward myself for 3 years. I can tell you now when this sort of thing happens there's very little you can do about it. £6.25 an hour isn't enough to get your head kicked in by a crowd who outnumber you. All you can do is try an act as a presence and hope the police arrive quickly!
What I liked doing was making mental photographs of the perps, then when the big boys arrived I'd point them out! They'd always try and hide away _________________ Love Outsiders...Hate Favourites

A perk of the job though was I did get to stand in front of the stage, Earls Court London when Kylie Minogue played there. Not a bad nights work having Kylie leaning over your head _________________ Love Outsiders...Hate Favourites

I'm not someone who attends racing very often and up until now i've always been in hospitality areas on corporate days out, etc, but on Saturday I was at Chester on a mates 30th birthday. We were in the Dee Stand, one of the cheaper areas and it was full of groups of men/women getting blind drunk, quite rowdy, so in that situation fights are always possible, just like in any pub/club on a Saturday night. Not saying its right but if you attract that sort of clientele it's always a possibility.
I would also say that if Saturday had been my first time attending racing I would never go back, as mentioned it was quite rowdy, lots of drunks, overcrowded, penned in an enclosure, nowhere to sit, 20 minute queues for toilets and drinks, and overpriced rubbish food and drink, not very enjoyable. |

Shocking, 1 simple solution - STOP SELLING ALCOHOL
I love a good drink but i never drink when i go to the races, i want to keep my wits about me and back winners, there is plenty of time for drinking after racing.
All of this bother will be drink related, hopefully it will be a one off incident or is this the future of our racing days out?
I bet none of those involved were ejected from the racecourse either |

I doubt any will get charged either , despite their being, no doubt, loads of mobile phone footage from racegoers |

| I agree with you micko70, I used to enjoy a good drink and enjoy the races .i can't understand why people go to meetings get hammered and miss the racing also the prices on the course seem very pricey |
