Ascot 3.05
SPIRIT QUARTZ
1. Has been placed in the top 3 of 70% of its stakes races
2. Has been placed in the top 3 in 10 of its 13 races
3. Run superbly well on good and good to soft
4. Finished 3 lengths behind Bated Breath on the same terms and that was on firm ground. Now has a better chance as has great stamina after runnign well over 6f on soft.
5. Dettori takes the ride and should make a good fist of it with a 12% strike rate.
6. Cowell has a 24% strike rate this year and all of his horses are running well.
With Bated Breath at 5/1 and my selection at 28/1 for a 3 length beating and now on better ground. I would rather take the price as it should improve on going more to its liking. |

TANGERINE TREES
3 TIMES a winner in Grade 1 races including the Prix de l'Abbe last year here many of these were behind. Many of the foreign runners uncertain to handle give in ground but this one will.has won on all sorts of going, at upto 6f and Tom Eaves has 11 wins on the horse. flopped badly from low draw last year but on different ground could be a different story, will be pushing the pace and could hold on at 25/1. |

Sorry for the delay of the league had a wee holiday down in the Lake District, just to see what the weather was like. RAIN RAIN and MORE RAIN.
Anyhow it was good,, the holiday.
See we have a new leader, nawoo has come through to take the running up and gone many lengths clear, (the saddle cloth must of slipped) , he hit two winners during this time and one of them was todays selected race, at a nice price, Imaginarium has slipped back to second place, possibly looking for that second breadth , third place and hot on the heels of second place is madman1 who selected two well priced placed efforts.
These three are the only ones in the 200's but garlicsauce and jammat001 are not far behind.
Hopefully everything is correct, please contact me if there is any errors, real ones that is .

| MARGOT DID has the first time visor on today and she could surprise a few at a good price. She has the ground conditions in her favour and when these conditions come in her favour she excells as she did last year in the Nunthorpe. The rain has been pretty bad around the Southern areas and this being the second race of the day the ground will be fairly freesh. Hayley Turner wiil have her close to the pace and hopefully MARGOT DID is fully tuned to give a good account of herself here, over a distance that suits her style of racing. She can stay six and with ground conditions on the soft side her stamina will come into the equation and could be strong enough to be in at the finish and possibly and hoping that her head will be in front, when hitting the line |

Wizz Kid
Bated Breath has promised to win a GR1 for a while and has a great chance, ground is key for him but he
should be bang there,Margot Did is a GR1 winner and also has a chance after beating the selection last year,
That was only Wizz Kids 4th race and is open to improvement, she has a good draw as Stone Of Folca will probably blast off,
she has that course form behind MD and the ground is no problem, she took her GR2 on return and she looks up to winning a GR1 and
should go well in a field where most aren't in with a real GR1 winning chance, |

If i had a double headed coin I would still loose and if i had a lucky rabbits foot it would bring as much luck as it did the rabbit. |

Sole Power
Sole Power has a good record having won four times at five furongs on good to firm ground. Its best past achievements was the Nunthorpe in 2010.He was only beaten a neck by Bated Breath when second when he tried to retain the Temple Stakes crown at Haydock in May this year. You must admit he's certainly been hammering on the door, remember he was runner-up on all three of his outings this year.Has a good jockey J P Murtagh taking the ride today must have every chance in this Sprint Challenge and give him a Group 1 success today. |

Spirit Quartz
2 good runs last 2 times out at hydock and only beat by a neck last time out. Been constant last 5 times out but not won but was close sevral times. 2 runs back on May 12th came 3rd and not fancies either has opend at 12/1 at sp was 14/1 so good EW effort too as was chasing leaders most of the way but they pulled clear last furlong but Spirit Quartz still tried catching them. Trainer doing very well 8 runs in last 14 days and 3 1st and doing well also for season. _________________ I stake low on bets.

The first day of the Royal meeting starts today where Frankel appears the banker of the day, but for me, the King's Stand stakes Sprint Challenge is where my Royal meeting begins. Races of this nature, over this distance and at this level can always prove tricky and need a good deal of luck in-running which is why i sit whilst writing this still holding a short list of nine. The market principles, Bated Breath, Ortensia, and Whizz Kid still lurk amongst my list though im not sure any of the trio appear much value in such an open race; it's difficult to totally discard them as they approach the race with the strongest level of form, though like i stated above, it's a race that needs luck in-running with twenty three runners still holding there ground. The Hong Kong raider Joy And Fun as some very strong form lines and is yet to unplace in his last four Group 1 contests. His form suggest he's probably better suited to six furlongs and on better ground than today's good-soft. Sole Power, Little Bridge, Spirit Quartz and Hamish McGonagall was others i had short listed but in the end i swayed towards the Tim Easterby trained Ponty Acclaim. There's not doubt that she needs to improve on what she's shown so far but she is a tough filly who appears very much on an upward curve, training on well from a 2yo to a 3yo. She as large runner field experience whilst also holding course and distance form next to her name. Ted Durcan is one from two on her and he as a 12% strike rate on Tim Easterby's 3yo's over the past five seasons.

"A tricky race in which a case can be made for a fair few runners. Bated Breath is the bet of the home team on paper but I can't help but feel that the ground is going to be against him. There are no such fears on that score for my selection WIZZ KID . The French raider has course form when finishing second to Deacon Blues last year. Has won over the distance 3 times And has Mosse in the plate like last year and who rode him to success last time out. He prefers cut in the ground and for a horse that likes to be dropped out he is ideally drawn close to the likely pacesetters Hamish McGonagall and Tangerine Trees. The biggest dangers are likely to be two other raiders the speedy Australian Ortensia and Hong Kong raider Litttle Bridge who both should enjoy today's conditions. "

Ortensia
Ortensia will make it five for Australia, this leading contender has had the better of a lot of these horses running today.
Ortensia has a very fast finishing style over 5 furlongs as shown in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint in March.
Ortensia record shows it has won 11 races from 5f to 7f on varying ground that ranged from good to soft.
Ortensia has made it three out of three for her new yard when when it beat a few of today's rivals when it raced in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan.
