The following competition is simple. There will be one race picked at random each day and you have to try find the winner. Although with this comp rather than just typing the name of the horse you think will win you have to write up why you think they will win aswell. Anyone who doesn't put in the effort and writes something like "I fancy X to win because he is white and they are faster", "I like his name", "my friend told me so" etc. etc. won't be considered nor will any copy + pasting from other sites.

YOU MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 4 SEPERATE POINTS ON WHY YOU FANCY THE HORSE.

So what we're looking for here is for you to look at the race and come up with a selection. Then post the name of the horse and write a few lines which must consist of more than 30 words with at least 4 seperate points on why you fancy it and that's it.

* If you want you can enter a second selection (must have write-up also) just in case your first choice turns out to be a non-runner and you don't have time to post again.

* If a race hasn't been posted after the selected race, please feel free to do so. The race for that day must be completed.There is no time schedule

* You may not edit your post at any time. If your selection is a non-runner then just make a new post in the thread with your new pick.

* In the case of a selected race not going ahead due to a meeting being abandoned / unforeseeable circumstances then there will be two races selected for the following day instead.

* When selecting races, please refrain from MAIDENS/NOVICE events including BEGINNER CHASES as these can be difficult in placing a reasoning to.

* HANDICAPS and HIGHER CLASS races are the ones preferred.
1st = 20pts + 3x SP
2nd = 12pts + 2x SP
3rd = 6pts + 1x SP
4th = 4pts
5th = 2pts

To encourage people to look away from favourites aswell there will be bonus points for the price of the horse as shown above. This means that if someone picks a 2/1 horse that wins they will get 26pts (20 for winning and then 3 times 2/1 is 6 -> 20+6=26) while if someone picks a 10/1 shot that comes second they will get 32pts (12+20=32).

PRIZES

1st = £10

2nd = £5

pivotman

has not raced for a while and fitness has to be taken on trust,yard usually have them fit first time out.has won at this distance and improved a lot at the end of last season,has run very well on different types of ground,has run only nine times and could prove to be a lot better animal this year,will not lack from the saddle with the excellent jim crowley on board,this seems to be a good race and the favourite should be hard to beat but he is not much of a price.

RUMH

With Frankie Dettori not having a ride in the Oaks all the Derby, he will be looking for compensation and this four year old could be the answer.
RUMH has been in some top class races last term, like the St Ledger and finished well beaten with retired Richard Hills in the saddle, before this she ran in the Yorkshire Oaks with William Buick in the saddle and finished 25 lengths behind Blue Bunting of the same owner, Godolphin. Also finished behind the same horse over in Ireland in th Irish Oaks with Pat Smullen on board with Frankie riding the winner each time.
Since 2010 this fillie has only had nine races and won only two and they were, her maiden race at Wolverhampton on the allweather and a liste race at Newbury.
This is her first entry into handicap company and she could be a tough nut to crack here.
Ground conditions in her favour and hopefully she can handle the underlations of this track. Drawn in stall 10 she will be on the outside and might be able to miss any trouble if Frankie does decide to stay from the inside, she can front run and Frankie can get the fractions right when allowed an easy lead and Epsom can be a front runners track if read right.
Massive price for a goldolphin runner and the price of th horse at the bookies does not interest them, only the solid runs and breeding, is in there mines.

Black Spirit

Black Spirit hasn't run in a handicap since July 2010, since that race, which he won he has raced in 4 Group 3 races, 3 conditions races and 2 listed race.

After his win 2009 he was rated 109 and it's not a coincidence that he runs in his first handicap since off his lowest mark since then, as he runs off 100 today.

His 2 career wins have been on this going, as was his only 2nd place and the only down side is the yard haven't had a winner for 23 runners.

Adam Kirby has only had 1 winner in the last 2 weeks but that was on a Clive Cox horse

TODAYS OFFICIAL RATING: - 95
TRAINERS TRACK FORM: - (LAST 5 SEASONS) - 5 FROM 17 - 29% - +£11.00 - (HORSES 4YO+ AT TRACK) - 5 FROM 16 - 31% - +£12.00

His last run at the course seen the Stuart Kittow trained runner finish a disappointing seventh of thirteen behind Right Step, beaten ten lengths on heavy ground. Im pretty sure the ground was his undoing on that occasion and as shown above, he's a lot better on decent ground. His last win here was when taking this race last year under identical conditions, beating Right Step off 97, two pounds higher than today's mark. As shown above, trainer Kittow as a solid record over the past five seasons at the track and i fully expect this runner to run a solid race here today.

Gatewood is the obvious improver and Resurge and Ramona Chase are course and race specialists targetting this race again but lets start June with OTTOMAN EMPIRE. Had a year off before turning up in Dubai for 3 runs this winter.Spencer was on board for those runs and takes the ride again, has a good strike rate for Simcock stable. form at 11-12 furlongs on AW and AW form translates well to Epsom. right age group for race 4-5yo. Placed on 8 of 13 runs though less impressive return on turf worth a go at Each Way price.

Pekan Star

He looks on a good mark and goes well fresh, wining both his runs after a long break,
still only had 6 races and the form around a horse called Kirthill ties in with a few here,
Gatewood was getting a stone of Kirthill last time but beat it well and is the obvious danger,
Kirthill was getting a 10lb off Pekan Star and finished 3/4L in front of it,
Licenced To Till was getting a stone off Pekan Star in the same race and finished in front
of both but now 10lb worst off and Pekan goes better fresh,
Kirthill also beat Pivotman (whos a good horse on his day) giving it 1lb, so Pekan seems to be
well in on the weights,
Resurge gets a 12lb pull with Pekan for 10L and course advantage so should go well
But Pekans record fresh and kept by top stable suggests races to be won, ground and trip fine
and if taking to the course (Montjeu do) then should go well,

Epsom 2.15

CRY FURY

Start the month off with in form trainer, Roger Charlton, 7 wins from 30 runners during past month.
Also very good, T/J combo, with James Doyle, cashing in on the trainers good run, since joining forces with the yard, hes had 10 wins from 38 rides.
Only had 6 runs to date, so open to further improvement.
Making seasonal debut today but both wins, have come on the back of a layoff and with the yard in such good form, should be ready on his first run of the year.

14:15 Epsom

Gatewood

Gatewood is very lightly-raced, only four starts in its career. And shows its improving and must be respected in this competitive event.Won a decent maiden at Salisbury in June last year and ran a good race at York in a handicap over 1¼mile.Has to have every chance today.

RESURGE

Excellent Epsom record with 3 wins and 2 seconds from 7 starts, won this last year on the same going from a similar draw off a 2lb higher mark. Trainer showed wellbeing with a close 3rd in a good race at Sandown yesterday. Trainer is 29% at the track (31% with his older horses). Fair price at around 6/1.

Epsom 2.15

RESURGE

Running of the same weight as last year when winning on the same Course, same distance and going. Albeit Gatewood looks a class act in this field , Resurge will be more at home on this ground than its previous attempt on Heavy. Won in this class many times before and should hold no terrors. This has got to be the optimum trip.
Has finished in the top 3 of 33% of its races, Mongan has an 18% strike rate this year on 4YO+ whilst Kittow has a 20% strike rate in this age sector.
Also represents a bit of value against the favourite who is worthy of that tag. Heres to the ground and trip being more to Resurge's liking and causing a bit of an upset.

epsom 2.15 stand to reason
he has won three times from 1 mile to 1 mile 2 furlong on soft ground and on the all-weather.only beaten a short head when a short priced favourite at chester three weeks ago by resurge who reopposses again today.faster ground a concern but the trainer m magnusson has booked jockey r moore and it looks like he is going for the jockeys title.i think the price of 8/1 looks a bit generous
