Posted: Thu May 03, 2012 8:30 am Post subject: TWO-YEAR-OLDS TO FOLLOW 2012
Regulars will know this thread was started by HRE in 2007 and continued by myself for the past few of years, with the thread unearthing the likes of Delegator, Sea The Stars, Zacinto, Coordinated Cut, Timepiece, Frankel , Camelot, Bonfire and Born To Sea since its inception.
I would ask those wanting to contribute to thread adhere to the following:-
• Please don't put forward any random 2yo you have a 'feeling' towards. Try and state a strong case for your chosen 2yo, be it on pedigree or good home reports. Quality rather than quantity is the aim of this thread. Beepee's excellent thread in the betting blogs and systems section of the forum would be a very good alternative.
• The horse you put forward MUST be UNRACED
• Please provide a line on your chosen 2yo so it can be used when the said 2yo runs, I can take care of the extra info i.e. owner, trainer, pedigree
Fingers crossed this thread can unearth a few smart types once again this year. _________________ Dark Horses 2013 - Flat

ALERT by AIDANLDREBIN - 3rd May 2012
SECRET SESSION (19/3 b c Mizzen Mast (USA) (9.1f) - Lynnwood Chase (USA) (Horse Chestnut (SAF) (9.2f))
Trainer: Marco Botti Owner: K J P Gundlach Breeder: Hascombe Stud
(55,000gns) Half brother to high-class 8-10f winner (including at Group 2/3 level) Pisco Sour and multiple 2m-2m 4f hurdle/2m chase winner Ultravox, out of a lightly raced half sister to high-class 7-9f winner (including at Group 2/3 level) Lord Admiral
This nicely bred colt has reportedly gone with an enormous amount of promise on the practice grounds during the spring, so much so that he was considered Coventry/Royal Ascot material by his astute handler. However, he has been given all the time he needs, and his pedigree points to the fact that he will prove best over 7f+ anyway; has had a spell out of training in July, but expected to be back in full work by the end of August and can hopefully make a belated impact.
MORPHEUS (13/3 b c Oasis Dream (7.3f) - Kind (IRE) (Danehill (USA) (9.1f))

This Juddmonte horse has the same connections as Frankel and he could be expected to be high up in the pecking order at Warren Place this season. More likely to be seen towards the backend and races like the Dewhurst would be an obvious late season target. Would look to prove best at 7F on good ground this year.
Second foal of a UAE 1000 Guineas winning half sister to a handful of scorers including useful US duo Frazzled and Gender Motors out of a half sister to very smart French middle distance performer Reloy who was the daughter of French Oaks winner Rescousse

Might need some cut in the ground to show her best.
Half sister to smart multiple 6f winner (including at Group 3 level) Greek Renaissance, smart 9-12f winner (including at Group 3 level) Side Saddle, very useful 5-7f winner Machinist, French 12f-2m winner Last Roman, 10f 3yo debut winner Sir John Hawkwood and 7f 3yo fibresand winner Athens, out of a 10f 3yo winner who was a half sister to high-class US middle distance performer Nash Terrace, smart dual purpose performer Landing Light and to the dam of Prix Jean-Luc Lagadere winner Naaqoos

Well-bred colt who is already starting to readily impress all and sundry at home, and it is more than likely he will be seen out once the better 7f maidens kick off next month; could be one of the nicest 2yos to come out of Ballydoyle this term, and should prove capable of staying 1m.

Didn't come cheap at 220,000gns, but this half brother to Viva Pataca has reportedly shown a huge amount of promise on the practice grounds, leaving himself right at the top of the list in terms of his powerful stable's 2yo team; expect to see him out towards the end of the summer in one of the better 7f maidens at HQ/Newbury, where he ought to set himself up for a crack at one of the better autumn prizes by way of a debut win.
NOOR AL WATAN (8/5 b c Raven´s Pass (USA) — Shy Lady (FR) (Kaldoun (FR ) (8.0f))

This colt is related to several smart performers and has been shaping up on the practice grounds as though he will follow suit without too many problems; not going to be an overly early sort, but almost certain to prove worth the wait and likely to debut in one of the traditionally strong maidens at the Curragh or Leopardstown towards the end of the summer/early autumn.
Trainer: Roger Varian Owner: Hamdan Al Maktoum Breeder Shadwell Farm LLC
Half sister to 7f 2yo winner Nawwaar out of a very useful 6-7f 2yo winner who was a half sister to their high-class 7-10f winner Muqbil and 1m 3yo winner Hureya (later dam of the high-class triple 7f winner (including the Group 3 Fred Darling) Muthabara and useful 7f-1m UK/UAE winner Aqmaar) out of an unraced half sister to the top-class miler Bahri and Champagne Stakes winner Bahhare
Well-bred filly who has shown herself to be one of her powerful stable's nicest 2yo fillies in recent weeks, and looks yet another useful member of a family that has served her owner/breeder well; likely to have the speed to start out over 6f, but ought to prove best over seven furlongs this term if her pedigree is any sort of guide.
HUNTSMANS CLOSE (20/4 b c Elusive Quality (USA) (7.7f) — Badminton (Zieten (USA) (8.8f))
Trainer: Michael Bell Owner: Sheikh Marwan Al Maktoum Breeder: Darley
Half brother to 7f 3yo AW debut winner Burghley out of a smart 6-7f winner (including at Listed level)/Cheveley Park third who was a half sister to the very useful 6-7f winner Cala, useful miler Badalona, 7f-1m winner Rafferty and 7f 2yo winner Fox
Well-related colt who has been catching the eye of late with some of the yard's nicer 2yo types, most of whom are winners, and he is certainly bred to make his mark at two, his dam a smart performer as a juvenile; ought to prove capable of making an impact right away, and should find 7f his optimum distance this term.
A LADIES MAN (17/2 b c Kyllachy (6.5f) — Ego (Green Desert (USA) (7.9f))
Trainer: Richard Hannon Owner: Mrs Julie Wood Breeder: Bloomsbury Stud
(220,000gns) Half brother to useful 7f-1m winner (including on 2yo debut) Chef, multiple 7f AW winner Cut And Thrust and 7f 2yo winner Self Centred, out of a very useful dual 6f 2yo winner (placed at Listed level) who was a half sister to 6f 2yo winner/Champagne Stakes third Ghayth out of Nell Gwyn winner Pushy
From a family of winners, looks likely to prove best at 6fs this season and apparently high up in the pecking order and given Julie Wood has Olympic Glory that's a fair thing to say. Was entered for a 7f Newbury on 13th July a race which was won by the stable's Montiridge so gives the stable a good handle on soft ground recent juvenile form. Would carry 8-7 in the Tattersalls Miilions race at Newmarket in September. Should be interesting to see how he goes on his debut and probably one to follow until he is beaten.
VICTORY SONG (9/4 b c Dansili (9.2f) — All Too Beautiful (IRE) (Sadler´s Wells (USA) (11.4f))
Trainer: Aidan O'Brien Owner: Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith & Mrs John Magnier Breeder: Orpendale
Half brother to connections' Cheshire Oaks winner/Oaks runner-up Wonder Of Wonders out of a 10f 3yo debut winner/Oaks runner-up who was a full sister to Derby/King George winner Galileo and very smart 10-12f winner Black Sam Bellamy and a half brother to the brilliant Sea The Stars, 10f 3yo Listed debut winner/Oaks third Melikah and hugely promising 6f 2yo Listed debut winner Born To Sea out of top racemare/producer Urban Sea, herself a half sister to 2000 Guineas winner King's Best.
Beautifully bred colt who is reportedly high in the Ballydoyle pecking order in the juvenile division and has the entries to prove it; likely to prove capable of making some sort of impact this season, most probably at a 1m, and could well reveal himself to be a Classic contender come the end of the current campaign.
ASHDAN (25/3 b c Dansili (9.2f) — Bonash (Rainbow Quest (USA) (11.2f))
Trainer: John Gosden Owner: Khalid Abdulla Breeder: Juddmonte Farms Ltd
Full brother to twice raced dual 7f 2yo winner (including at Group 3 level) Sense Of Joy and a half brother to high-class multiple 10-13f winner (including at Group 3/Listed level) Day Flight, 10f 3yo winner Sense Of Pride and once-raced 7f 2yo winner Bionic, out of a very smart 8-12f winner (including at Group 2/3 level)
Well-bred colt who is reportedly doing absolutely everything right on the practice grounds at Clarehaven, so much so, he has earned himself an entry into the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes in September; top handler knows the family inside out, and it would be extremely surprising if this son of Dansili couldn't make a significant impact as a juvenile.
CUSHION (12/4 b f Galileo (IRE) (11.1f) — Attraction (Efisio (7.8f))
Trainer: John Gosden Owner: The Duke Of Roxburghe & Mrs Sue Magnier Breeder: Floors Farming
Half sister to 7f 2yo winner Elation and 1m 2yo winner Devastation, out of a top-class miler who won the English and Irish 1000 Guineas as well as three other Group 1 contests, whilst also proving to be a very smart 5-6f winner at two, winning the Cheveley Park Stakes, and she was a half sister to this yard's useful dual 1m winner Racketeer.
Smartly-bred filly who could prove to be the best of her top racemare's progeny to date, with the Galileo influence appearing to have woven its magic if this filly's work at Clarehaven in recent times is any guide; fact she holds an entry in the Fillies' Mile suggests top connections expect her to make her presence felt this term; should have few problems with 7f to begin with but ought to stay a mile before the season's out.
POINT PIPER (16/3 b c Giant´s Causeway (USA) (9.6f) — Imagine (IRE) (Sadler´s Wells (USA) (11.4f))
Trainer: Aidan O'Brien Owner: Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith Breeder: Barronstown Stud
Full brother to high-class Irish/UAE 7-10f winner (including at Group 2/Listed level) Viscount Nelson and a half sister to top-class multiple 7f 2yo winner (including the Group 1 Prix Jean Luc Lagadere) Horatio Nelson, 7f Group 3 Rockfel Stakes winner Kitty Matcham and 10f 3yo winner Red Rock Canyon, out of a top-class performer who won the Irish 1000 Guineas and Epsom Oaks and was a half sister to top-class middle distance performer Generous
Full brother to connections' smart Viscount Nelson and a half brother to the sadly ill-fated but very smart 2yo Horatio Nelson; reported to be one of the nicer youngsters in a yard packed full of well-bred juvenile talent, this borne out by entries in the Champagne, National Stakes and Royal Lodge; sure to be seen out within the next few weeks in one of the better maidens.
ATARAXIS (27/1 b c Nayef (USA) (10.8f) — Seven Magicians (USA) (Silver Hawk (USA) (11.0f))
Trainer: Sir Henry Cecil Owner: Niarchos Family Breeder: Suc S Niarchos
Half brother to 7f 2yo debut winner Magician's Cape out of a Listed-placed 10f 3yo winner who was a half sister to smart dual 10f 3yo winner (including at Listed level)/Yorkshire Oaks runner-up Ocean Silk out of a half sister to top-class duo Divine Proportions and Whipper
This well-connected colt has always shown plenty of promise at home, regarded as one of his top yard's nicest 2yo prospects from an early stage; not surprisingly taken a while to come to hand given he is by a pair of middle distance performers, but has really began to shine in recent weeks and ought to prove capable of making a significant impact in one of the better backend maidens.
DEMONIC (29/1 b c Dansili (9.2f) — Bionic (Zafonic (USA) (8.7f))
Trainer: Sir Henry Cecil Owner: Khalid Abdulla Breeder: Juddmonte Farms Ltd
Half brother to smart 7-9f winner (including at Group 3 level)/four-time Group 1 runner-up Phoenix Tower and 6f 2yo debut winner Krynica, 7f 2yo winner Winter Bloom, smart US middle distance performer Diplomatic Agent and dual US 7f winner Red Herring, out of a once-raced 7f 2yo winner who was a half sister to smart twice-raced dual 7f 2yo winner (including at Group 3 level) Sense Of Joy and high-class multiple 10-13f winner (including at Group 3/Listed level) Day Flight
This well-bred colt is another that has always been regarded as one of the leading 2yos at Warren Place, but he has also been brought along slowly; work has been stepped in recent weeks and beginning to really look the part and although he may not be seen more than once this term, it would be disappointing if he couldn't make a significant impact given he hails from a family that tend to do well first time out.
WADAA (17/3 b f Dynaformer (USA) (11.4f) — Cloud Castle (In The Wings (11.8f))
Trainer: James Tate Owner: Saeed Manana Breeder: Rabbah Bloodstock Llc
Half sister high-class middle distance performer Reverie Solitaire, smart 6-10f winner (including at Group 3/Listed level) Queen's Best, dual German middle distance winner Blue Citadel and 7f 3yo debut winner Kaabari, out of a Nell Gwyn winner/very smart middle distance performer who was a half sister to very smart middle distance performers Luso, Needle Gun and Warrsan
This well-bred filly is reported to be the yard's smartest juvenile prospect of the year, and she is certainly bred to be at least useful as a half sister to high-class duo Queen's Best and Reverie Solitaire, whilst her dam was a Nell Gwyn winner; rookie handler in the middle of an excellent run and although he doesn't get many winning newcomers, this Fillies' Mile entry could break that trend when debuting later in the season.
Three parts brother to top-class 7-10f winner (including the 2000 Guineas and Eclipse Stakes) Refuse To Bend, very useful Irish/Qatari 7f-1m winner Domestic Fund (placed at Group 2 level), and 12f 3yo winner Ripple Of Pride (all by Sadler's Wells), closely related to useful dual 12f 3yo winner/Listed Race runner-up Notable Graduate (by Galileo) and a half brother to Melbourne Cup winner Media Puzzle, out of a useful dual 6f winner who was a half sister to very useful Irish 7f-1m/top-class 8-9f US winner Twilight Agenda
This smartly bred colt is from a family that has served these connections superbly well over the years; reportedly regarded as one of the stable's brightest juvenile prospects, so his entry in next month's Racing Post Trophy comes as absolutely no surprise. Unlikely to see too much racing this year, but it would be disappointing if he couldn't notch a win in one of the better 1m Irish maidens this backend. _________________ Dark Horses 2013 - Flat
Well this horse is not likely to go under the radar given connections but I'll claim him before somebody else does:
Morpheus
(Oasis Dream x Kind) (13/3/10 Bay Colt)
Half brother to unbeaten Classic winner/Champion 2yo & 3yo Frankel & Group 3 winner Bullet Train. Dam, multiple Listed winner in the UK, half sister to Group 1 winner Powerscourt.
This Juddmonte horse has the same connections as Frankel and he could be expected to be high up in the pecking order at Warren Place this season. More likely to be seen towards the backend and races like the Dewhurst would be an obvious late season target. Would look to prove best at 7F on good ground this year.

1 of probably many from the Godolphin Camp
TAKAATHUR - Saaed Bin Suroor
By Hard Spun out of a mare (Vague) from Elusive Quality.
Hard Spun won over distances from 7 furlongs to 9 furlongs, the Dam (Vogue) won the UAE 1,000 Guineas
Takaathur is a half brother to Hard Not To Like who has won 3 of his 6 starts to date in America.
Takaathur's main aim will be next season's 2,000 & Derby, we should expect to see him make his debut over either 6 or 7 furlongs towards the end of the summer _________________ My Twitter Page = Toonmick70

It is welcomed all the same, Budgie. I seem to remember a certain Nathaniel being one of your contributions to this thread in 2010, and he didn't turn out too bad in the end, for all he didn't actually win as a 2yo.
I was half tempted to put up Disclaimer (b c Dansili - Novellara) from the Sir Henry Cecil stable, as he is reportedly one of their nicer 2yos for the first half of the season (when the 6f maidens begin in earnest), but I find that his 'earlier' types never really live up to expectations i.e. Notice Given, Waferia etc. and it pays to wait for his mid-late season types.
Pedro The Great (b c Henrythenavigator - Glatisant) is another I was close to sticking up, but I noted the other day that he has been mentioned in a promotional clip for the sire by O'Brien and the entire world knows about him now, so I expect he will be overbet and overhyped right from the off for that reason alone.
Micko, thanks for your suggestion as well. Good to see you've not been too ambitious with your long-term hopes for Takaathur! _________________ Dark Horses 2013 - Flat

Might need some cut in the ground to show her best.
Full sister to multiple Group 3 and 2YO winner in Ireland Famous Name. Owner Khalid Abdulla is said to think she's one of his best 2YO's and should be out later in the year. _________________ Team Thread
