That's surely rubbish regarding the ground for Hinterland, when he won @ Cheltenham the going was good/soft, good in places, there cannot have been a much difference between that and the going last week, he certainly handled it well at Cheltenham 1st time round _________________ My Twitter Page = Toonmick70

I really think a horse MartynCarlisle brought to our attention needs flagging up on this thread for future reference - a Dom Alco gelding by the name of Sixty Something. I urge everyone to go and watch his farce of a debut run at Warwick on November 16th, where Denis O'Regan did literally nothing on him all the way round (well in arrears from the outset) and brought him home in mid-division (grey horse in the light blue and white jacket) in what was basically a schooling session.
He is declared to run at Haydock tomorrow and Sam Jones is down to ride but, for all Paul Webber emailed MartynCarlisle saying he was one for next time, he looks all over another Pere Blanc type to me i.e. three runs held up out the back and then a lowly handicap rating around the 100 mark and moved up to 3m. Fascinating to see how he gets on tomorrow at Haydock if he a) runs and b) the meeting gets the all clear. _________________ Dark Horses 2013 - Flat

Yes indeed the commentary team are all over it aswell im sure they will be giving it a mention tomorrow also on RUK assuming the racing goes ahead, they actually said at one point about half way, "the grey RESTRAINED at the back of the field"..
pretty low key jockey booking for tomorrow also, not sure what to make of that.. |

Hugely excited to see Wild West entered for a bumper at Newbury next Wednesday. He is a Galileo half brother to high class pair Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman, both of whom were very smart in bumpers for Jonjo O'Neill, so it's hardly surprising to see this gelding join him.
As soon as I saw this gelding appear in the 2010 Ballydoyle 2yo list, I knew he would be one to wait for in bumpers, and it would've been waste to run him on the Flat. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him make a winning debut and put himself in the frame for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. Really looking forward to his debut outing. _________________ Dark Horses 2013 - Flat

| @ machine if you are still around, just noticed that Dandino has left Hendersons for James Fanshawes, and will almost definitely not go over hurdles this year, schooling not so good, but are still going to keep schooling for the future, just not this year.... |

Grandouet. Was quite unlucky in a few races and his class shone when he beat Overturn who had previously beaten Binocular and the much hyped Menorah which consummate ease.
Would surely have beaten Celestial Halo until he fell and was shaping well to challenge subsequent winner Zarkandar. Rubbished claims he doesn't handle Cheltenham by winning in style in December.
Seems to have learnt from previous mistakes ... One to watch for sure at the festival. |

There are some interesting horses yet to run who could be interesting in bumpers for the remainder of the season.
Paul Webber has Devon Drum (4 b g Beat Hollow - West Devon), a half brother to very useful South African 7-10f winner Polzeath, 6f 2yo debut winner Salcombe (twice placed at Listed level) and 6f-1m winner (mainly AW) Tourist, out an unraced half sister to top-class US dirt performer Tinners Way. Paul Webber traditionally does well with Juddmonte castoffs, and this gelding sold for 29,000gns at the HIT sales last autumn (unraced for Amanda Perrett).
Alan King has a few unraced types, and one who looks particularly interesting is Kenai Peninsula (4 gr g Tikkanen - Realms Of Gold), a half brother to the yard's bumper (debut)/useful 2m-2m 4f hurdle winner Gold Reef and modest 10f 4yo winner Joey Perhaps, out of a maiden from the family of King George winner Ile De Bourbon and top class miler Rose Bowl.
Another that caught my eye on pedigree was the Emma Lavelle trained Water Wagtail (5 b g Kahyasi - Kentford Grebe), a half brother to connections' bumper (debut)/very useful 2m 5f-3m hurdle winner Kentford Grey Lady (Grade 2 placed) out of a 2m 4f-2m 5f hurdle/2m 4f chase winner who was a half sister to bumper/very useful 2m 3f-2m 5f chase winner The Land Agent.
A couple of relations to Cue Card may also be seen soon. The Wicked Kipper is a full sister, trained by Martin Keighley, that holds an entry in a mares' bumper at Catterick next Friday, although Keith Reveley's newcomer also takes the eye in that race. Nicky Henderson has a 5yo Westerner half brother by the name of For A Laugh owned by John Magnier. Clearly taken longer to come to hand than expected, but hopefully he will make it out this season, perhaps in one of the better bumpers at Kempton.
On a slightly different note, one horse I will be looking out for in handicaps after his next run is the David Pipe trained Martial Law. He was a Listed winner over 1m 7f in France for Andre Fabre and also had a spell in Australia, winning a handicap on his penultimate run over there before rounding off his season with a good second in a valuable handicap. He joined current connections in the summer and made his debut at Bangor in December, but he made a blunder at the first and was keen early, dropping back after the second flight and never looking a threat thereafter. His latest outing came at Taunton at the end of December, on this occasion held up right out the back from the outset, but he was making headway when short of room heading down to the second last, after which he was brought home quietly to finish eighth.
He was pulled out of a five-runner contest over the fixed brush hurdles at Haydock a couple of weeks ago, and I am sure that the heavy going was put forward as the reason, but I actually believe it was due to the fact the field cut up so badly and therefore had the potential to reveal a little more than connections would've liked. There is no way he is as bad as his two efforts over hurdles suggest, and I am sure he will be buried away in a decent sized field next time in pursuit of a lowly mark, off which he could do some damage given the level of form he showed on the Flat in both France and Australia. I imagine he will be at his best at around 2m 4f. Could be a typical Pipe plot job. _________________ Dark Horses 2013 - Flat
