Japan - Tokyo 20 May 2012
Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) (Grade 1) 1m4f, turf, 3yo fillies
Gentildonna (Sei Ishizaka/Yuga Kawada) emphasised her superiority over the Japanese crop of three-year-old fillies as she landed her second Classic on Sunday in the Yushun Himba.
Having defeated Verxina by a half-length to land the Oka Sho (1,000 Guineas) last month, the 4.6-1 shot extended the margin to five lengths in the Japanese Oaks.
The winner is a daughter of the great Deep Impact, who has made such a fantastic start to his career at stud.

Baden-Baden 20 May 2012
Last year's Arc heroine Danedream made a winning return to action at Baden-Baden on Sunday.
Lining up in the Group Two Grosser Preis Der Badischen Unternehmer, Peter Schiergen's filly was expected to take all the beating in the 11 furlong contest and duly obliged on her first start since finishing sixth in the Japan Cup in November.

Italy - Rome 20 May 2012
129th Derby Italiano GR2
Robert Havlin won the 129th Derby Italiano Better aboard Feuerblitz in Capanelle on Sunday.
Havlin teamed up with the German trained colt in Rome Michael Figge in a race that was widely expected to go to Frankie Dettori's mount Real Solution.
Dettori had been in action earlier on the card, having to settle for second aboard Frankenstein in a head bobbing finish to the Group Three Premio Carlo d'Alessio while his mount in the Listed Premio ITS ex Tullio Rigthetti, Roma Kitten, could finish only seventh.
Godolphin's went only one place better in the day's feature event around six lengths behind Havlin who scored by a short-neck from Stefano Botti's Wild Wolf.
Botti also saddled the third home, Smoking Joe, who was a further length and a quarter adrift.

Italy - MIlan 26 May 2012
San Siro: Premio Oaks D'Italia - Trofeo SNAI (Group 2) 1m3f, turf, 3yo fillies
Cherry Collect (Stefano Botti/Fabio Branca) supplemented her victory in the Premio Regina Elena (Italian 1,000 Guineas) with an impressive performance, defeating 12 other fillies to land the lion's share of the €330,000 prize. The Ralph Beckett-trained Cubanita could finish only ninth, tiring after racing prominently for much on the journey.

San Siro: Premio Carlo Vittadini (Group 2) 1m, turf, 3yo+, 2.30pm BST
Vedelago (Luigi Polito/Mario Esposito) proved too strong for favourite Alianthus, coming home one-and-a-quarter lengths clear of his German-trained market rival, with Principe Adepto a further three-quarters-of-a-length away in third.

Japan 27 MAY 2012
Tokyo: Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) (Grade 1) 1m4f, turf, 3yo
The world's richest derby has been won by Deep Brillante (Yoshito Yahagi/Yasunari Iwata), who nosed out Fenomeno to take the Tokyo Yushun.
The 15-2 chance was completing a notable double for his sire Deep Impact, the 2005 Triple Crown winner who seven days earlier produced the Japanese Oaks winner Gentildonna.
In a tight finish, third place was taken by Tosen Homareboshi, three-quarters of a length behind the runner-up, with World Ace fourth ahead of Satuski Sho (2,000 Guineas) winner Gold Ship.
Deep Brillante had finished third in the Satsuki Sho before turning the tables in Sunday's 339 million yen (£2.7m) event.

FRANCE 27 MAY 2012
Longchamp: Prix d'Ispahan (Group 1) 1m1¼f, 4yo+
GOLDEN LILAC made a sparkling return to action when she surged past Cirrus Des Aigles inside the final furlong to win convincingly in the hands of Maxime Guyon.
Cirrus Des Aigles, sent off the 4-5 favourite, attempted to kick from the front but could not match the finishing burst of Golden Lilac as she powered to the front inside the last furlong.

2013 Dubai Sheema Classic
Coolmore and partners' St Nicholas Abbey spoiled the international debut of sensational filly Gentildonna as he drew off in the stretch from the reigning Japanese Horse of the Year, winning the $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic Presented by Longines (UAE-I) on the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) March 30 at Meydan.
Making a change in racing strategy after a late-charging second to Cirrus Des Aigles in last year's race, St Nicholas Abbey tracked just behind pacesetter Shareta this year before taking control entering the stretch.
Gentildonna, who stalked from third, tried to overtake St Nicholas Abbey in the stretch but had to settle for second. Very Nice Name finished third.

2013 Dubai World Cup
The drought for America in the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) came to an end March 30 when champion Animal Kingdom galloped clear in the homestretch for a spectacular score at Meydan Racecourse.
Joel Rosario rode the 2011 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) victor to a 2 1/2-length triumph in the $10 million event—the world's richest horse race —for trainer Graham Motion and owners Arrowfield Stud and Team Valor International.
Australia also shares in this World Cup victory as a majority interest in the 5-year-old son of Leroidesanimaux, who was purchased by John Messara's Aussie-based Arrowfield from Barry Irwin's Team Valor last December. Animal Kingdom is to begin his stud career later this year in Australia.
Since 2010, when the World Cup relocated to Meydan and its Tapeta racing surface, no American-based horse had been in the top three finishers in the international event.
