| HI...Any suggestions for just having a few good bets each week. Is there a tipster or forum I could follow? I thought about placing a bet on the most popular NAP each day (from the Free Tips section)...do you think this is a good idea. I don't know enough about racing to pick my own winners, which is the reason for joining this site! Thanks for any comments. |

Hello roscom its not easy to pick winners on a regular basis .if it was we'd all be doing it. Its much harder when you put real money down.thats why the
betting shops have 3 tills taking bets and only one paying out.
That said your idea of a few good bets per week i probably the best idea but
to do this will require discipline . DO NOT CHASE YOUR LOSSES.
backing favorites odds range 5/4 to 1/2 with high number olbg tipsters
and high confidence rating is probably the best way to go.
Scoobydo runs a top systems blog that produces winners on a regular basis.
Don't bet in handicaps as they CAN BE fixed and the form is unreliable some of the time thats why they have lowest winning favorites % .....
GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME TO THE SITE ....TAKE TIME TO READ ALL THE
DIFFERENT POSTS AND REMEMBER NO ONE KNOWS EVERYTHING.
EXCEPT ME OF COURSE ................. |

Sorry but I have posted this before in another topic where I think I will get no response. And I need it quick.
Guys I'm a bit new to English horse racing, I always play French Horses.
But on Kelso race 3.
I have played Type: TRIO
Mode CS
Don't know if you people know this type, but you select 3 horses, and they must enter 1, 2 and 3. In order or non-order. I'm pretty sure you get both. Because I see I have in order and 3 in non-order.
* Or actually, I just played order, so I will only get payed for my 3 orders TRIO I'm affraid.
I have these numbers
1-7-10
1-10-7
1-7-10
10-1-7
Can anyone PLEASE tell me how much I earned with these? |

I love National Hunt racing – and have for 50 years. I have been lucky enough to own “half a horse” twice in the Grand National – 30 years apart and view the changes to that great race with very mixed feelings. In the year of Red Rum's first win when you stood on the landing side of Bechers and looked back you looked at the base of the fence (at least you did if you are 5ft 7!!) now it is virtual level ground, take-off and landing and the fence totally changed - ruined some might say.
I think that we will never placate the “knockers” and I am dead against any further “easing” of the fences – indeed I am with the lobby that think that the easing of the fences increases the likelihood of fatalities, A totally different sort of horse runs in the National now, much lighter boned and almost flat bred in some cases. And they are always, as a consequence, travelling faster than in the past.
I was lucky enough to know Victor Dartnall's dad, Des, who had been in racing from about the age of about 14 - and knew just about all there was to know about jump racing. He always used to say that for an animal to be a National horse you ought to be able to put a bowler hat between its front legs. Maybe its a sign of the times you'd be hard pressed to put a fascinator (see I am up with the times in some things!) between the front legs of some current National runners.
What you, may ask, is the old boy on about – and why are we talking about the National now – and what has it to do with the heading?
Only to make the point that NH racing continues to be under the spotlight and must do all it can to head-off any criticism. I am a bit concerned therefore to see that there is a 3-Y-O hurdle tomorrow at Ffos Las and I do wonder whether horses as young as these ought to be running over 2 miles and 8 hurdles. Hilali for example is barely 3 – having been foaled on 7th May. I may be wrong (not uncommon!) but I don't remember 3YO hurdles coming as early as this “in the old days” and would certainly question the wisdom of running such events. Running them after Christmas (when they would be offically 4) seems plenty early enough to me. |

| There's always been 3yo hurdles though Ken at least as long as I remember. Having them in June does seem a little strange. But with cost of training going up all the time then owners would like to get their money's worth. I've not owned a horse for over 6 years (and that a poor one) but the fun was to go to the races even if you knew you would finish closer to last than first. A lowly horse will cost you £10K or so, training fees at a minimum of £1k a month means an outlay of £22K or so before you've started and those 3yo hurdles later on in the year are so difficult that owners will be enticed to run in these races that you mention. You do have to worry for the horses being over run at such a young age. |

Once in a way you see a price which you simply feel is wrong – way out from what it should be.
Such, in my view, is the (ante-post) price on Black Caviar, the brilliant Australian mare, to win at Ascot.
The pros and cons:
The Pros :
She is undoubtedly a quite exception race mare. On all known form if she runs she wins, given a clear run (&etc – the usual caveats for any race).
The Cons:
Even the best horses get beaten though– history is littered with good things that bit the dust. I would, I think, Lay the horse (currently possible at 1.39 with Betfair) even if she was trained here and even if she were not a mare. But she isn't and she is!
First the travel – she has apparently travelled well – glad to hear it – but I am not sure that a couple of days is sufficient to be sure of that. (remember all the European horses that have tried and failed, to win the Melbourne Cup. Top horses with, prima facie, excellent chances), And she is a mare – it may be indelicate to invade a lady's privacy but she is coming to summer from winter and it is that (summer & more light and heat) which induces mares into season. Again without wishing to be indelicate the female of the species (all species!!) is not necessarily at her most reliable at such times. I don't know, I confess, whether it is legal under the rules of racing, to suppress a mare's natural cycle (as is done with greyhounds and Russian gymnasts) but whether yea or nay it cannot be a bull point.
But moving on swiftly to less gynaecological matters there are other potential minuses. One is, paradoxically, simple her incredible record. They will not wish her to lose her unbeaten record – and any little niggle/concern will see her pulled out where her lesser brethren would take their chance. And that (being taken out of the race) would also I guess, though I don't know I confess, apply if the Ascot going comes up bottomless. Its a long time 'til the race – but as of now I imagine Ascot is pretty muddy – and though she has won over further, Ascot is a stiff track to start with. It is a hell of an uphill climb (2½ – 3f maybe) and mud is a great leveller in may sports – ask the Aussie (is this a clue?) rugby team, recently beaten by a n apparently woeful Scots outfit.
In summary : not for a moment saying she won't win if she runs (though even on that point 1.39 looks a poor price) but laying in the ante-post market also makes you a winner if the horse doesn't run – and there is still almost a fortnight to the race. 1.39, whatever the result, is a ludicrous price! |
