|
|
|
OLBG are relaunching and rewriting the entire betting school.
http://www.olbg.com/school/
The Betting School was introduced as a fun way to learn about different types of bets, methods of betting, systems and strategies. The aim was always to help members improve their betting and their enjoyment of betting.
We would like to find out what members would like to see in the new betting school.
It dosent matter how off the wall the suggestions are.
Try to imagine you are new to betting?
What would you like to see as a novice?
As an expert in one field what would help you in another sport? -
What did you struggle with in the early days?
Which sports are a mystery to you?
Imagine you are from a non English speaking country?
What questions have you asked in the past?
Which bets have you never got to grips with?
It would be great to get plenty of suggestions, we can then rebuild the school exactly as members want to see it.
Please post all your suggestions below. |

Great idea guys
Here are a few exchange related:
A better understanding of backing and laying on the betting exchanges, there is a lot of good stuff in fairfranco’s thread that could be taken out and put into a betting exchange school.
http://www.olbg.com/forum/topic49_14441.html
Newbies need to understand the difference between backing and laying and also the liabilities involved in laying as this is often not understood by people new to the exchanges.
Also details on how to back to Lay in certain events such as horse racing giving some real examples (video maybe)
An understanding of liquidity and how it can affect the backing and laying process.
How to Lay off bets to lock in profit on standard events such as a football match (again a video would be good)
Basically an in depth guide to the exchanges showing real life examples and processes (screen shots and videos)
I would be happy to help out with anything exchange related
You could do the same for Spread Betting and get one of our resident Spread Betting Guru's on board to help put it together. |

The idea of a Betting School is excellent and one day I hope to open my own, maybe in a 5-star hotel suite in the mediterranean or possibly in between the betting shop and the pound shop in Aldershot....
Anyway, I would like to see some in-depth articles for those with some experience which may not lend themselves to a quiz type format but should be useful, loosely including;
Choosing the right races to bet in
How to quickly narrow down the field
5 reasons not to back a horse
Value - how important is it?
Be hostile to the obvious, befriend the unapparent
Seeing what others are missing
In-play strategies
Systems - a useful tool or a way to avoid doing any work?
Develop your instinct as a good instinct overrides any evidence
Stats and trends, understand them properly and take advantage by going against the general acceptance
Develop your skills, analyse, learn, record and prosper
I have loads more but to me, the key to making a profit long term is to develop your instinct, be wary of the obvious, always look behind the stats and trends as these so often serve to mislead and a series of in-depth articles for the experienced punter would fit nicely alongside the neccessary beiginners guides. _________________ My Strategy Blogs - http://www.olbg.com/blogs/blogger.php?c=47&id=30141&m=&y= |

You bet there is OT, i took two young men under my wing because they kept on at me for advice, so i relented, but i told them to get into Maths, they asked why, i pointed out to them Pen & Paper, not calculators, i pointed them in the direction of knowing your maths...they do not ask why anymore as to why i said know your maths, they say it has improved their awareness..
Risk Management is another important Tool, just take a look what happened to the Banks when they re-placed the Risk-Management team with Salesman.
Many more Tools are there for punters, but 99% of punters out there are novice, and amatuer punters to say the least, so many will not take on board how to conduct them seleves in the Punting Jungle. _________________ Trading or Betting Blogs & System section Daily Lays

Have PM'd you nors re the rugby page
Think a little section needs putting in for cricket and how quick games can change round especially in the 20/20 which provides good trading opportunities.
Players do well at certain grounds.
The type of bets.... where 4 day games are void if there is no result. Whereas a 20/20 can be decided by a shortened game and a 5 over slog.....cup comps can sometimes go to bowl offs indoor and out of sight to decide the winner.
Am sure FF could add some more here
Would also agree with the above about how to rule out horses in a field |

As someone who doesn`t normally take part in the forums, I hope I can still contribute a few ideas to the subject.
I think the school would be better if it was more graduated, than at this present time. I notice (with this being only my second post ), that this seems to be the norm in the forums, with people being given a greater staus as regards their number of posts.
The betting school could take a likewise approach, with maybe status being credited from i.e primary school, secondary school, graduate, teacher, lecturer. senior lecturer, reader and professor.
The different categories, would take on an increasing ammount of difficulty with the top ones requiring an extremely high knowledge of not only the mathematical side of betting, but also the historical side as well.
there could also be a online form of exam rather than the multiple choice question, which do allow a persistent person to eventually come up with the right answers through perseverence rather than knowledge.
OLBG is a brilliant site and has made my own enjoyment of betting even better. The amount of effort that must go into running it must be tremendous and I for one fully appreciate it.If you took the time thanks for reading this post. |

I'm guessing there's not as much feedback here as OLBG might have liked. That might be an indication that the Betting School in its current form is proving satisfactory (do page views/activity confirm that, Nors?).
But also another factor may be the new blogs. There's been a lot of article-type blog posts that provide a wealth of info on methods and strategy, on a number of sports. Perhaps newbies are seeing what they want there?
I've written a few articles myself, and I have several others in the pipeline for when i egt time to complete them. IS OLBG looking for an article-based new structure or retaining the current format, or a mix of both?
I'd be happy to contribute more to this, as I'm sure others would. _________________ ----

Thanks ebook
Yeah the betting school is still popular. We have neglected it a lot though, the initial idea was to keep building it.
Following the new design and updates and addition of some new "lessons" we hope to keep on growing it gradually.
Yes the blogs are awesome and do a lot of the teaching for us :) And our plan is to build members thoughts into the school more and to link to blogs, forum threads. One of my worries is that some of the blogs dont get seen or get lost over time. So yes the school wont be just one persons thoughts, but members content and quotes will be built in and the ability for readers to add their thoughts on the subjects too, go elsewhere on the site for further reading.
Really what we need help with at the moment please is ideas for areas the school should cover. |
