Pompey's 9/19 away defeats saw just one by three or more goals. First league game for both, expect it to be tight and perhaps dull. There are high expectations down Bill Nicholson Way this season with an abundance of talented players. After an opening day defeat up in the northeast to ‘Boro, everyone at Spurs will be demanding nothing less than a victory here against Sunderland. I expect the Lilywhites to have a real go at the Mackems for their first home game of the campaign. The away side have done well in the transfer market and you have to say will look a lot more potent in front of goal this season with now, many attacking options.

Two wins for the blues, one a brilliant performance on the opening day and the other, much more like the Chelsea we all love to hate. It should be fairly straightforward for them again with the visit of Spurs. With two defeats, a clear striker problem and some settling time needed before they no doubt pick up. A London derby with plenty of class on the pitch, attacking football, wing play, maybe goals, I expect another flurry of corners.

Now believe it or not I'm on the Andorrans in this one as they are very good at winning something, booking points. The most ill disciplined country for the 2006 World Cup qualifiers continued there “no fairplay” style into Euro 2008 qualifying and even their first game for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Veteran Toni Lima once said “We have developed a game that sometimes pushes us to the limit of the rules. The gap between us and a team like England means we have to play defensively, and hard.”

England are in town and whether we make it difficult for ourselves as we often do, it shouldn’t be of any concern in the bookings department.
