It's a friendly and Hodgson has got to experiment. The lads that he has included need the experience of senior international football and most of the players he has chosen would be high up on any list of potential players we have coming through at Premier league level.
The likes of Butland, Walker, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Caulker, Cleverley & Rodwell are our future, like it or not, so they need the exposure.
He also has to balance the needs of the clubs and concessions on the players that went to Euro 2012. At this time of the season the clubs like to control their own players training, and fitness towards the new season so it's an apt time to try other players. _________________ @ KanKeano_OLBG | Twitter |

| Yes I certainly think that the squad has been picked with the start of the season in mind, can't see anyone playing more than an hour and it's a good opportunity to 'drop' some of the stars without it being big news. I actually hold out more hope if we are going to build a team rather than throwing a few half talented players together but I also think this squad highlights the lack of true quality England have coming through, a lot of the players in this squad are only fringe members of their club sides. |

I actually think it is crazy that the FA have scheduled a pointless friendly 4 days before the start of the Premiership, this could only happen here |

not worried at all, you could argue we should be even more worried if the squad was near identical to one the at the Euros, which LOST to Italy!
We need to start breeding these youngsters, which is what all the other major nations are doing. Gerrard, Terry etc won't go on forever. _________________ Keeps on plugging away in the hope something will pay off! |

All countries have a friendly OT, not just ours, as it's a designated date in the international calendar. If England weren't playing the other internationals would still be away playing for their own countries.
For me we need to play friendlies as it's the only time the manager is going to get a chance to try a few different things. We all complain that the national side is struggling but when we get the opportunity to play the fans bemoan the fact the friendlies are meaningless.
What are the FA to do? They can't win to be honest.... _________________ @ KanKeano_OLBG | Twitter |

I disagree but each to their own Fans will have the best interests of the club at heart but i firmly believe that Hodgson needs these games in order to improve the squad. _________________ @ KanKeano_OLBG | Twitter |

I feel revolution is needed not evolution for Englands national team. We have the same disagreements about England every season.
The argument should we play/should we not play both have merit but just continue the same old situation - which ultimately leads to national failure.
So apart from revenue generation(which is important) for the FA, i would not play the game but not because its the start of the Premiership.
Lots of discussion has been how well Cycling has been managed in the Olympics with long term goals, i also refer back to England winning the Rugby World Cup a plan that came together.
There needs to be an 8 -10 year plan aimed at us improving and winning a major championship.
I would get the chosen players together - but not play a friendly. |

Squads have never worried me, tactics have though. If Hodgson is to carry on with the style of play he inherited then he should leave now. Possession and passing is the only way.
I will never forget how tired England looked in extra time against Italy. They were unable to chase the shadows that they did in the first 90 minutes. Where they relied on the counter attack in the 90 minutes, they did not produce one counter attack in extra time.
As for England playing four days before the season starts......I don't see this as an issue. Friendlies are just a kick around......a good place to get your passing, possession and positioning right for the big day in 4 years time. |

Hogdson won't go on with those tactics I am fairly confident of that. Don't forget he was put in charge a few weeks before them Euros so I think for us to do as well as we did was pretty decent.
It is going to be a fairly lengthy progress to see us transform out fortunes on the pitch.
Hodgson will be judged on the next World Cup and corresponding European Championships in 2014 and 2016 respectively. _________________ Keeps on plugging away in the hope something will pay off! |

What worries me is the fact they we are the 3rd best team in the world yet struggle to beat of the top 10 teams.
What the hell do they use for their rankings, Annual Salaries?
We are not even a top 10 side, never mind a top 3 side
Although with it being a friendly we will probably beat Italy, but who really cares.
I have given up on England now as we have no chance of winning anything in my lifetime.
We are the wrong football, Hodgson said we done ok during the Euro's but never actually had more possession than any of our opponents in 4 games, this has to tell us something.
England's style of Football can be summed up in just 3 words -
PASS, PASS, LUMP
The whole of the world has cottoned on to our style of play, ok the so the lesser European teams will struggle with us they are not good enough, the better European teams and the top teams from the rest of the world know exactly how we play.
And here was me thinking that a new top man would herald a change in tactics, how wrong was i and most of the nation.
You could have The Pope running the team, but if they insist on the same brand of football then we will win nothing |
