Just a quick note to say the 8/1 for GIGGS seems a great price and I dont think it will be around too long.
Im a Liverpool fan as well but I think GIGGS performances this year have been imense with his age and his variety of roles midfield/attack etc and what with looks like another league trophy coming he could well be a great proce come the end of the season, a true professional who doesnt really get the recognistion of the likes of Ronaldo and Cantona. 8/1 does seem big |

Giggs would be a deserving winner but for me it has to be Vidic, currently the best centre half in the world and has been outstanding this season. _________________ All the best. |

Two things that are enjoyable about this thread. Firstly a Liverpool fan romanticising about Giggs, nice one Sir. Your obviously a very reasonable football fan.
Secondly the mere mention of the award got me heading to Wiki to find out a list of previous winners, an impressive list indeed.
Ahh, kids in the park, jumpers for goalposts ....

The way it's going it has to be a United player, any value in van der Sar at 10s? After all his clean sheets record is quite something, I think I would rather back that then Vidic at just 2-1 now. _________________ Play Up Pompey |

| Yes I thought the same VIDIC although been playign well etc defenders dont really have a good record in this and the votes are often 'sentimental' if that makes sense ie: what giggs has achieved etc and still going strong I think more would vote for him. Gerrard will do well to get in the top 3 really as he hasnt sparkeld as much as he can do |

Heres the thread made about this a month ago - http://www.olbg.com/forum/topic3_23409.html
No one mentioned Giggs and Vidic back then!
I'd still stick with the top 3 being Robinho, Gerrard and Ronaldo, although maybe not in that order.
Vidic and Giggs are worthy picks, but Giggs hasnt done enough over the year (and doesnt regularly start) and defenders dont often win this. _________________ Theo Walcott will score at least 20 in all competitions this season.

its vidic all the way for me, backed him a while ago and for me its been him responsible for man u's clean sheets, not van der sar. vds obv gets some credits but there havent really been many spectacular performances in there.
giggs wont win it having only played about half the time. he has had a few standout performances in last month or so but that and sentimentality are not gonna be enough.
dunno when the voting is done but usual candidates of gerrard (with alleged thuggery hanging over him), lamps & ronnie (not firing as previous seasons) leave s it open.
reason defenders havent done well in past in cos theres no real attention towards them, however the record has given vidic spotlight and hes scored a few as well. hes miles ahead of any other candidate in my eyes. _________________ Positions are available in the OLBG Lottery syndicate. I dont like to make a habit of it but im in agreement with BK again.
How this whole giggs thing has started is astonishing, he is nowhere near player of the year, i think you should have to start at least most of your teams games to be considered.
It is amazing how things change, Mr Ferguson a few weeks ago states giggs should be player of the year, nobody, and i mean nobody had even mentioned him before that. now though fast forward to today and every second (poor) journalist is putting his name up as favourite. I do dispair sometimes. Do these people have minds of their own.
As for who should win, my opinion has not changed from the previous thread, except in the last month i would flip flop on the two united players i mentioned, rooney and vidic.
I think vidic or gerrard will win it, and right now Gerrard is the value bet (even if he has not been liverpool's best player this season).
| Quote: | | Saying that the award SHOULD be for the whole of last year and not just the start of this season does Torres not have a shout, remember this is not just based on Premier League performances and the Euros were still pretty fresh in people's minds in December. |
I would think that his injuries will keep him out of most peoples consideration. As for the voting already being done, correct, and while vidic still had plaudits giggs was nowhere near the radar, unfortunatly he may get the writers award, with all the hype, which is a later vote im led to believe

dec is a ridiculous time to vote really unless players are told to count the previous season too. wonder wot guidelines r exactly. also wonder why they dont have at end of seaon.
the clean sheets thing brought him into spotlight with the public but im sure professionals know him as a consistent tough performer. _________________ Positions are available in the OLBG Lottery syndicate. | Vidic or Gerrard for me, Gerrard has been his usual good self and Vidic has been awesome this year. Made sure Man Utd didn't miss Rio and held the defence excellent, not affraid to get stuck in and for me its about time another defender gets it so i hope it is him. |
