I’ve always been interested in the Placepot as a good way of having an interest (hopefully!) in all the races if you are attending a race meeting or watching a whole card on the TV. I’d not noticed a huge amount of chat about the Placepot on the forum so had a search and found this thread and thought it seems a shame that no one is contributing to it anymore as there is some really good info on here.
It might be an idea to get something going again where hopefully we could exchange ideas, methods, selections etc and see if it’s possible to win regularly using this type of bet.
Most of the punters I know have a Placepot from time to time so let’s see if we can ramp up our winnings from this bet.
I thought we could start off with some general ideas etc, have a look at the Placepot returns each day and see if any tracks or conditions avail better dividends on a regular basis. (broggsy has provided some top quality research on page 2 of this thread regarding average track returns)
We could also possibly add some daily selections but I couldn’t promise to be around/have enough time to give that the time it requires every day so that part would definitely require some help.
Do you target the really big meetings (Cheltenham Festival, Royal Ascot etc) as the time to have a Placepot or do you feel there is better value/more chance with, say, a smaller evening meeting where fewer people will be playing on the tote?
Do you try and fit your selections to a set stake or perm or are you flexible depending on the card/number of runners etc?
Do you think the flat or national hunt offer a better chance of return? What about All-Weather meetings?
Today’s meetings/ground conditions/returns were as follows:
Redcar Soft £87.00
Towcester (eve) £18.60
Windsor (eve) £173.70
Wolverhampton Standard £89.10
I’ll try to get back on later with some possible selections for the Placepot at tomorrow’s meeting at Wincanton to start the ball rolling again but thought some of the following info from the RP site might come in handy:
Jockey to note: Conor O’Farrell 8-22 36% +37.13
Trainers to note: Paul Nicholls 48-179 27% -4.06
Steven Dixon 3-11 27% +38.00
Others to note: Andy Turnell as an owner 3-7 43% +1.07
Favourites over hurdles are showing a profit in the last five years in both handicaps and non-handicaps
It would be great if we could get some of the previous regular posters back on this thread. |

Wincanton 15th May
LEG 1: CABORA
LEG 2: MR BACHSTER, RESIDENCE AND SPA
LEG 3: PLEIN POUVOIR, FORT VIEW
LEG 4: KASHABELLE, MOORLANDS JACK, RIVERMOUTH
LEG 5: FLAMING GEORGE, PERFECTLY WILLING, SOLITARY PALM
LEG 6: ARMOURY HOUSE, SIR BATHWICK
1X2X2X3X3X2 = 72 BETS
LEG 1: CABORA looks sure to get a good pace here from Corlea and this should suit Timmy Murphy's hold-up style. The other two fancied runners look very average to me and CABORA looks worth banking on.
LEG 2: Kim Bailey sounds quite keen on the chances of Allformary on his website but the rain at the track could be against her so she could be worth taking on, especially with MR BACHSTER who has been well backed.
LEG 3: PLEIN POUVOIR has only been put up 2lb for his recent win and despite doubts about his stamina he should make the frame.
LEG 4: A bad race and the front two look well worth opposing with John Panvert not training a winner for ages and Lost Two Stars only third in a poor race last time. MOORLANDS JACK is the most interesting on his first start for John Flint.
LEG 5: Only three runners and the Nicholls hotpot forecast at 1/8! That said it is a novice chase and it could be worth covering the field in case of accidents.
LEG 6: A truly dreadful hunter chase and preference is for the two horses proven at three miles under Rules, ARMOURY HOUSE and the teenager SIR BATHWICK |

Only just discovered this thread, placepots are my favourite bets and dont do too bad as a rule. Lets hope todays meeting at york pays a nice dividend.
Leg1 5,7,8,11
Leg2 4,12,14,15
Leg3 5
Leg4 4,5,6
Leg5 4,5,11,18
Leg6 4
192 perms
hoping there isnt goin to be a non runner in last leg as it'l mean first 2 home instead. No rush to get it on just yet mind.
Good luck all |
