I'm a big fan of a placepot, as some people may know from previous posts. I do them every now and then when I think there are a few favourites who could get beat at a meeting as that is when the payout can be substantial.
Someone mentioned on the Racing forum that there was nowhere to put selections... well now there is!
To get in the spirit I'm going to do a small stakes placepot whenever I remember to, to see if I can get lucky on them. My philosophy on them is very much to get away from the top of the market, meaning that strikerate will be much lower (and there will be a fair amount of frustratingly narrow defeats!) but returns are high if they do come in.
Feel free to put your own selections in if you're also a fan. _________________ "The problem with the future is that there are more things that could happen than will happen" - Plato (liberally paraphrased)

Placepot 1 - 20-05-11 Haydock
I've gone for Haydock today as it's the prestige meeting today and the pot is by far the largest at the moment. Bath has small fields and a couple of cast iron fav's, whereas the Yarmouth pot is surprisingly large and also has handicaps, its low quality and looks unpredictable. Also with the amount of maidens and 3yo only races at Haydock there are possibly some "placepot busting" improvers so I've focussed on picking out a few that could fit into this category. My only weakness to favouritism is in the 16:30 with Varians gelding.
14:30 - Mia Madonna 7th/11
15:00 - Switcher
15:30 - Squires Gate 5th/9
16:00 - Sam Nombulist 6th/10
16:30 - Momaris 6th/13
17:00 - Timeline
(Placepot returned:£142.40 Pool:£76,624.45 392.72 winning tickets)

Hi data66, your thread has been locked by the mods as it is in the wrong place. They pretty strongly police it to stop the Racing forum getting clogged up with thousands of threads, which makes a lot of sense if you visit some other sites and see the clutter.
Feel free to add your selections here, or if you would like to start a thread in this blogs section, I will happily copy mine over.

Well as I say, feel free to put your own up. Mine is down today already with my big outsider yet to run, despite Switcher winning at decent odds... _________________ "The problem with the future is that there are more things that could happen than will happen" - Plato (liberally paraphrased)

Best of luck potman.
Out of interest (I'm really getting into this now) these are the pots for this evenings racing at the time of writing;
Catterick - £14,055.53
Musselburgh - £15,965.99
Towcester - £23,607.62
Towcester card has several shorties... the course is very well attended, looks to make for a nice little pot if you can get a couple of them turned over...
An overview of today; Bath was the place to be, Placepot returned: £2,037.80 Pool:£42,013.10 15.05 winning tickets _________________ "The problem with the future is that there are more things that could happen than will happen" - Plato (liberally paraphrased)

think i will try 8 or 16 lines when more time to sort them out.2 X2 X2X1x1x1=8 or 2x2x2x2x1x1=16 being greedy I dont want more lines per perm as rather do 50p or £1 = £4 or £8!
Enjoy palcepots so more fun bet than serious money bet for Me. |

I'm inclined to agree there potman, given that I've just gone through results and if I had permed my longshots with fav in each race I'd have been a short head from 2 winning lines...
2x2x2x2x2x2= 64 @ 10p = £6.40 would be a shd from £28.48
As I say though, the returns at Haydock were nowhere near the best available and I think I made a critical error in meeting selection, will analyse further later. _________________ "The problem with the future is that there are more things that could happen than will happen" - Plato (liberally paraphrased)

used to do do placepot's a lot,but boy do they do our t..s in,and especially having the first five(no matter what the dividend),a must is min.of 2 in the last 2 legs,and i rarely do favs.and,on weekday's if no big meetings on.the dividends are paltry most times.only do them now,at big meetings on weekends,same S/R but when you get the one up at big meetings. ,its worth it,will follow this thread with interest. |
