Hi Guys and Gals.
I'm fairly new to the Blog area and hope nobody minds me posting this up.
I'm here to hone my betting skills and generally think out loud. My objective is: not to lose! Might sound a bit silly that would put me in a better position than i have been in the past!
My main passion is football, so that's where most of my money goes, but I do like to stick a bit on ante-post golf, and other sports where i have a fancy.
So over the coming months I shall note down my bets with reasoning, and keep a record of Profit/Loss and LSP (which took me ages to do. I'm crap on Excel!). I shall update wherever possible, but because I haven't got the internet at home (yet. I'm working on it!) it will be a bit hit and miss, timewise.
Any comments and advice (please!) would be very welcome indeed.

Right then, wont be able to get online much this weekend so here are my 1st couple of bets:
Bet 1: Norwich v Watford: 4pts Norwich win (4/5 with Ladbrokes)
Paul Lambert did the business last year by gaining top spot in League one at the first time of asking, and has improved his squad in the summer by signing players such as Andrew Surman and Simeon Jackson. I can see plenty of goals coming from these two players, along with Grant Holt, Chris Martin, and Wes Hoolahan. Watford on the other hand have done very little in terms of squad improvement and I can see them struggling again this year.
Bet 2: Reading v Scunthorpe: Reading win (4/7)
Peterborough v Bristol Rovers: Peterborough win (5/6) 5pts Double (2.87 Ladbrokes)
Reading were the form team at the back end of last year and I see them bringing that form to the new season. Scunthorpe struggled last year and have now lost star striker Gary Hooper to Celtic. Without his goals I see them as relegation fodder this term.
Peterborough have dropped a division and the expectancy will be to make the return straight back to the Championship. I think they have a decent chance of doing so, but there are many teams who can take points from each other this time around. Bristol are one of those steady away mid table teams these days, and they were no higher last year due to their away form W6 D2 L15. Peterborough win for me. _________________ Grip's Rest of the Season Permed Acca

Bet 1: Norwich v Watford: 4pts Norwich win (4/5 with Ladbrokes)
-4pts
Bet 2: Reading v Scunthorpe: Reading win (4/7)
Peterborough v Bristol Rovers: Peterborough win (5/6)
5pts Double (2.87 Ladbrokes)
-5 pts
To Date:
P/L: -9 pts, LSP -2 pts
A very sad start indeed! A good game to watch on Friday night but Norwich never got going til it was too late. Didn't get to see any of the Reading game, but I did not expect a poor start after their great end of season last term.

Just a quickie on tonights Carling Cup action:
Exeter V Ipswich: Ipswich win(11/8).
Tractor Boys should be too strong for Exeter who are most probably missing Steve Tully. Ipswich missing Tamas Priskin, who scored at the weekend but will probably replace him with Jon Stead, who scored at the weekend
Northampton v Brighton: Brighton win(7/5).
Brighton off to a flyer at the weekend beating Swindon. Apparently going to make one or two changes but still should be too strong for Northampton who got spanked by Torquay at the weekend and seem to be light up front after selling Akinfenwa.

Could I have been more wrong?!
Bet 3: Ipswich/ Brighton:2 pts double (5.71) Ladbrokes
Safe to say that this isn't the best of starts. Oh well, the weekend is almost upon us, and plenty more action to get involved in, including the start of the Premier League Can't wait.

It's Friday, so here are my weekend tips. The only way is up from here on in!!
Huddersfield v Tranmere: Huddersfield win (1/2)
Huddersfield impressed me before they even kicked a ball this season, making some excellent signings in each dapartment, such as Jamie McCombe in defence, Joey Gudjohnsen in midfield, and Joe Garner on loan up front.
They have also made a winning start to the season, beating Notts Couny 3-0 away (which i thought would have been a very tight game) and Carlisle 1-0 away in the League Cup which gave them the plum tie of Everton away in the next round.
So this is their first game at the Galpharm and I expect a winning home start against a Tranmere team that doesn't look much cop to be honest, especially with Ian Thomas-Moore wanting out. They had a bad result at home to Oldham, but to be fair they changed their fortunes midweek away to Walsall in the cup.
The head to head record between the the two sides is actually very tight in recent years, but I can just see this Terriers team being too strong.
Chelsea v West Brom: Chelsea -1 Handicap (11/20)
The Premier League kicks off again this weekend, and I cannot see a shock on the cards down at the Bridge. Chelsea have won ten of their last 11 opening fixtures and drawn the other, 1-1 v Newcastle in 2001.
Chelsea have won each of the last 10 head to head fixtures, and this bet would have lost only twice in those 10 games, Chelsea winning 1-0 in 2005 and 2-1 in 2006.
I must confess to having a soft spot for West Brom, ever since SuperGeoff helped keep them up a few seasons ago. I backed them for promotion last year and was chuffed when they clinched the 2nd automatic promotion spot. They are a well run team that deserve to be in the premier league in my opinion.
I think they are stronger this time around then when they were last in the top flight but i do think they will struggle again, especially for goals, as I don't see anybody in their squad that will get into 15 + goals.
With the world cup stars being rested where possible I think the poor pre-season for Chelsea can be discounted and see them starting with a bang with Drogba fit enough to play and can see this being a 3 or 4 niller.

Bet 4: Huddersfield/ Chelsea -1: 5 pts Double (2.33 with William Hill)
Once again, total cack. Total P/L: -16, Total LSP: -4
Did not expect Huddersfield to let me down, but fair play to Tranmere. They went there to stifle the opposition and it worked well for a good away point for them.
Not about much all weekend so I'l post this up early:
QPR v Scunthorpe: QPR win (4/9)
QPR have got off to a flyer in the Championship, winning 4-0 and 3-0 in their firs two games. Neil Warnock always builds a strong side and aswell as scoring lots of goals, have kept 2 clean sheets. Having a Halifax lad playing for them, Paddy Kenny in goals, is one of the reasons for the clean sheets!
Scunthorpe on the other hand, come off the back of a home 1-0 defeat to Norwich which I'm sure is a game the manager and supporters would have had down for a win. It was a real kick in the balls for Scunny, losing in the 90th minute.
The head to head is quite tight, but goes QPR's way with a record of W2 D1 L1.
Burnley v Leicester: Burnley win (10/11)
Burnley have got off to a strong start by beating Forest at home and drawing 1-1 away at Ipswich.
Leicester have been beaten by Palace 3-2 at Selhurst Park and drawn 0-0 with Boro at home.
A fact to point out is that this fixture (Burnley at home) has been played 26 times over the years, and Burnley have only ever lost 3 times.

Tons of footy on this week, I love it when the schedule is packed
Two games that catch my eye tonight:
Sevilla v Braga: Sevilla win (4/11)
Sevilla had the ball in the back of the net within 10 minutes last week, but was disallowed. They had plenty of chances after that but failed to make them count, and Braga took the 1-0 win.
Braga look a solid outfit, but I see Sevilla being too strong even after their 4-0 defeat away to Barca in the super cup at the weekend.
Stoke v Shrewsbury: Stoke win (4/9)
Stoke are expected to announce a fairly strong line up tonight, although they will definitely be without Kenwyne Jones and Mamide Sidiby, who are both injured.
Shrewsbury are without Lionel Ainsworth and Danny O`Donnell due to injury and Matt Harrold serves a suspension.
Stoke should do the business here against a weakened Shrewsbury.

Bet 6: Sevilla/ Stoke win: 2 pts Double (1.96 Will Hills)
Total P/L: -£9.20, Total LSP:-3.24
Sevilla decided to score goals when it was far too late, but congrats to Braga, they thoroughly deserved to go through.
Apologies for the ridiculously long delay (if anyone's reading!) but i have been ( to misquote Pulp) "somewhere, somewhere in a field in Yorkshire, alright..." at Leeds Festival where Guns n Roses sucked copious amounts of cock and Queens of the Stone Age rocked out like bastards. So nothing new there then...
Quick double for the weekend: Greece v Georgia: Greece win (2/5)
It's a clean sweep for Greece on the head to head: P5 W5. Greece may have had a torrid time of it at the World cup, but they beat Nigeria and I felt they took far too long to settle against South Korea to get anything from the game. The other game was, of course, against Argentina.
In qualifying, though, Greece are a different animal. They have qualified for their last four tournaments, something England have failed to do!
Greece's last game was a tidy away win against Serbia, which will have done wonders for their confidence I'm sure.
Georgia on the other hand have won just two games in their last 20. In a friendly in March v Estonia, and way back in August 08 away to Wales.
Chesterfield v Lincoln: Chesterfield win (8/11)
Chesterfield are unbeaten in the league so far this year as they look yet again to push for that so far elusive promotion.
I was almost put off backing the Spireites in this game, as i backed them far too much last year because I had backed them to win the league! But because of following them so much I know how strong they are at home, and since leaving Saltergate for the B2net Stadium they are yet to lose a league game (admittedly there has only been two!)
Chesterfield sit fourth in the table, up against 15th place Lincoln and I feel the home team should have enough up against a team with one win to their name so far.

Well, Greece let me down on Friday. I am having a total 'mare at the moment so I'm going back to basics and sticking to singles for a bit, surely I can't carry on backing the wrong ones forever?!
Holland stuck 5 past the lowly San Marino on Friday, with Huntelaar getting his hattrick. This should stand them in good stead when facing a Finland side missing their Captain and best centre half Sami Hyppia, due to suspension. I can see there being goals in this game as Finland will have to score if they're going to take anything from the game because there's no way Holland will not score tonight.
