First of all I'll say Im stunned at this 30 man squad.
Im so glad he can still pick players from outside this 30 when makes his final 23, as this 30 man squad is a joke, right?
Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.
Rob Green should not ever be ahead of Paul Robinson, but the 3rd choce guy likely wont get a game so is irrelevant.
Defenders: Leighton Baines, Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Michael Dawson, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock.
Upson is not good enough, hes over-rated. I like Carra but he shouldnt be in the squad, plus he'll likely give away a penalty per game.... We only need 2 left backs at most so dont take Warnock (who I like).
Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Tom
Huddlestone, Adam Johnson, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Scott Parker? Really? Whos done nothing special except score one important goal, and has not been in England contention for how many years??? Huddlestone only came back from injury recently did he? Gues he'll go if Barry doesnt make it though. Johnson is a risk, but a worthwhile one. Not sure Joe Cole will make it but he'd be good for coming off the bench. Lennon needs more games before making a decision.
Forwards: Darren Bent, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney.
Fairly predicatable, not sure Bent can cut it for England though. Rooney will go even if half fit, regardless of Capello's "no injured players" comment.
So in short, to drop that 30 to 23, he'll dump Warnock, Upson, Barry/Huddlestone (depends if Barry is fit), Parker, Bent, Lennon and Carrick.
I'd not take Carragher myself but I dont think he'd be in the 30 man squad unless he was guaranteed a place in the final squad. _________________ Michelle Larcher de Brito - World Number One 2012 (c)2008

betking I can't believe you haven't even mentioned dropping SWP? He's had a mediocre season at best, don't think he's hit 20 appearances, let alone starts. Even when he does play he looks half the player he once was. As for Carragher, there's no way you could take him - especially after his comments about not wanting to play any more. Joker. In response to mercer though I could not agree more, Gaz Baz has looked shaky for City _________________ brewsty39
Jamie Carragher Internationally retired a few years back people. Well he refused to play anyway so I would be shocked if he did decide to play. Was tired of being put behind Terry and Ferdinand.
And SWP has been awful. Not in my squad anyway. _________________ Liverpool 1 vs 3 Aston Villa - The moment we got Thumped by the worst Aston Villa Team in Living Memory is the Moment I waved goodbye to ALL European Football For 2013/2014.
there's only 1 player who's not been in the squad before (JOhnson) plus a couple of others who've not been included in a while.
Who would you have put in that's not in there?
The only one I can think of offhand would be Ashley Young instead of one of SWP or Cole, but I figure he's gone with the later because of their previous experience.

brewster - Forgot all about SWP, agree hes had a poor season.
fairfranco - Despite all the recent press speculation, Im surprised at Carragher overall. Not had a great season and I dont think we're "desperate enough" to go crawling to a player who turned his back on playing for his country because he wasnt first choice.
Im surprised at King as despite him playing a few games of late, hes injury prone.
Im absolutely shocked at Scott Parker being named.
Huddlestone is a surprise, Dawson is a surprise.
Johnson is ovbviously both a surprise and gamble, but like I said its a worthwhile one so I have no problem with it.
Bent cant cut it so why even name him? We know he wont go.
I dont rate Upson at all, hes massively over-rated in my opinion, Im not surprised hes there, just rather he wasnt.
I dont rate Wes Brown either, but Im surprised hes not there - or is he injured again?
Im surprised hes left Ashely Young out, I wouldnt expect him to make the final squad but to not have him in the 30 (especially when hes picked Parker) is an insult. _________________ Michelle Larcher de Brito - World Number One 2012 (c)2008
