The Ryder Cup will be held from Friday September 28 to Sunday September 30 at the Illinois venue. Europe won the last edition at Celtic Manor 14.5-13.5.
European Ryder Cup team:
Luke Donald
Sergio Garcia
Peter Hanson
Martin Kaymer
Paul Lawrie
Graeme McDowell
Rory McIlroy
Francesco Molinari
Justin Rose
Lee Westwood
Ian Poulter (wildcard)
Nicolas Colsaerts (wildcard)
Looks a decent team to me - let's hope they can do it |

Kaymer is the weak link there.
Such an excellent player until he started tweaking his "game", and now it's all fallen apart. How many times does that happen to these pro's. If they aren't winning, then I can understand it, but Kaymer was continually in contention. |

Agree there Wallsend, was actually hoping Colsearts got into the side and knock out Kaymer, that way we could've had someone else in better form. Not quite sure who but think even a Laird or Dyson would've been better, not sure I'd take Pod either, again tweaking too much. _________________ Check out my Golf Blog

I guess if you're not happy with the way you're playing then you have to make chances, but you're right Kaymer was absolutely smashing it when he won that hat-trick including the PGA. If kaymer didn't get an automatic place and Colsaerts did, I'd have taken Poults and Thomas Bjorn. He's reliable, and think he'd make a good solid choice. Then again could go the other way and choose a more exciting young player. We saw how well Overton and Bubba done when they were coming onto the scene. Maybe someone like alex Noren? Or even jamie donaldson? _________________ brewsty39 |

| I like the European team, anyone taking any interest in any of the markets such as Top European, total individual points markets or perhaps Tiger versus Rory? |

When trying to find the Top European Points Scorer it's obvious that you want somebody to play in as many games as possible. For that reason I can't fancy Kaymer, Colsaerts, Lawrie or Hanson as they're much more likely than the other team members to play only once on the first day.
The 2012 Ryder Cup is being played at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago and early indications are that as well as facing a hostile reception from the very noisy locals the Europeans can also expect to face very fast greens.
For the reasons mentioned I can't fancy Sergio Garcia, Francesco Molinari or Lee Westwood as all three of them have been known to experience difficulties on fast greens before and after a few missed short putts are cheered by the home crowd I could see each of them growing increasingly agitated.
Although Poulter was the star of the show in 2010 he did play with three different partners and I just worry that he could be used to nurture less experienced or out of form players along and in doing so harm his own chance of being the top points scorer.
McIroy and McDowell will probably pair together and prove hard to beat, but for me the Top European Points scorer rests between Justin Rose and Luke Donald. Rose has been in fine form this year with a victory and countless top-tens already recorded. In his one previous Ryder Cup appearance, which was also played in America, Justin Rose earned three out of a possible four points including a singles victory over Phil Mickelson.
Luke Donald has also been playing well of late and is well renowned for his matchplay exploits which will stand him in good stead in Chicago. He also has three Ryder Cups under his belt already and just for good measure when Medinah last held a major tournament, the PGA Championship of 2006, Luke Donald finished 3rd to Tiger Woods.
I'm going to split my stakes on Luke Donald at 13/2 and Justin Rose at 8/1. |

Colsaeats is a good pick and he should be a good addition to the two balls as he has the long game which will be needed here.
As I understand it the course is being set up with long sweeping fairways with limited rough and the only sand traps will be up around the green. This is clearly in the interest of the Americans and as such a price of 8/11 whilst short looks a great bet for the outright. _________________ www.twitter.com/overthefence200

Nice to see kaymer and colsaerts have top 5 finishes in the Italian open today, kaymer in particular hopefully running into a bit of form in time for medinah. I'm flying out next Monday to cheer the lads on, hope they can retain the cup. _________________ I wish i had a pound for every pound i've spent, cos then i'd have all my money back. |

I think that the USA will win this. Top points scorer ? I will probably split stakes between Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.

Good luck everybody - should be good
