I have heard about only a few books from the listed above.. as for me, I have read The Theory of Poker: A Professional Poker Player Teaches You How To Think Like One by David Sklansky. Quite easy to understand. A lot of really useful tips and formulas. I advice it for all newbies!
I have never read a poker book in my life. I have always though that different people play the same cards different ways and there is no outright play on any situation making any one opinon moot. This i do believe and will always believe.
I have always played and said that aslong as you can justify to yourself the moves that you are making, whether you win, place or lose, you can go away happy, at least not unhappy, of how it went. Recently ive been unhappy of how ive been playing. Many situations where i have been going out, with hindsight, i feel i sould have been playing better or at least different. Anyway with knowledge being power I think im gonna try and learn the ways of the "elite" ( i dont think their elite, i think they be lucky)
There seems to be alot of writing out there so where to begin. I am only writing this so it goes back to the top and i can find it easier tomorow or the weekend.
I gotta say well done and thankyou to Burr for alot of these reviews. I shall read them and see what happens. Any other reccomendations or a starting place always welcome.

You'll be surprised what you pick up Rounder, and realise (is why its good or bad to do certain things in certain spots) .. mind you - if you're anything like me you'll forget 90% of it within weeks!!
Just pick what is useful or relevant to the way you play (I pretty much disregard most of the maths)
My top recommend is still Gus' Every Hand I played - you get the strategy in a practical format along with a bit of banter..
Join the guys and girls from the forum for a friendly game of Poker every Monday
and Thursday evenings. The buy-ins are low and new players whether beginner or expert
are always very welcome.
