Begu To Breeze Past Hsieh In Straight Sets

Tennis Su Wei Hsieh vs Irina Camelia Begu

21/05 12:15

Romania's Irina Camelia Begu likes playing on clay while todays opponent Su Wei Hsieh does not, so with this in mind I can see nothing other than a straight sets win for Begu today in this first round meeting in Strasbourg.
Begu lifted two claycourt titles last year on the challenge tour and her best performances this year have come on clay with a semi-final appearance at Acapulco and a quarter-final appearance at Fes.
Begu produced some very good performances on the main WTA tour last year as she finished runners-up at both Marabella & Budapest, which were both played on clay.
Wei Hsieh has played very little tennis on clay in recent years with just 21 appearances on the dirt in the last 5 years and only 4 of those 21 matches came in main tour events (W-1 L-3).
With such little claycourt form to her name, I think it is hard to make any sort of case for Hsieh in todays match with Begu and given Begu's recent form on clay, I think the Romanian should breeze through this match today in a comfortable straight sets victory.

Begu Should Be Too Strong For Hsieh

Tennis Su Wei Hsieh vs Irina Camelia Begu

21/05 12:15

Irina Camelia Begu & Su Wei Hsieh meet today in this first round clash in Strasbourg and look at both players previous clay form, it is hard to see how Begu can lose this match.
Wei Hsieh has reached the second round of her last 3 tournaments which were all played on clay but she does not have a good record on dirt as she has rarely played on this surface in the last 5 years.
Wei Hsieh has played a total of 21 matches on clay since the end of 2007 (winning 8 & losing 13) and you have to go back to 2006 to find the last time that she advanced past the second round of a clay court tournament.
4 of Begu's career title wins have come on clay including wins in Bucharest & Cali last year.
Begu has been playing to a decent standard on clay this year having reached the semi-finals in Acapulco & quarter-finals in Fes and in my opinion, it will be a surprise if the Romanian does not win this match today with something to spare.

Djokovic To Edge Past Federer

Tennis Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer

19/05 19:00

Meetings between Novak Djokovic & Roger Federer are nearly always tight fought affairs and I expect tonights semi-final meeting in Rome to be no different as I can see this match going the distance but come the end of play I think it will be the Serb who emerges as the victor.
Federer leads the H2h 14-11 but they have only met 4 times previously on clay with Federer winning 3 of those 4 clashes although Djokovic's win did come in the semi-final of this tournament in 2009.
Djokovic won that meeting in 3 sets and he has beaten Federer in 5 of their last 6 meetings.
Federer won in Madrid last week but his record here in Rome is nothing special where as Djokovic is the reigning champion.
Besides his triumph here in Rome last year, Djokovic also lifted the title here in 2009 and I think his likening for this event will give him the extra edge in this match tonight.
Djokovic to win in 3 sets.

Reigning Champion Djokovic To Progress To Final

Tennis Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer

19/05 19:00

As the betting suggests, tonights Mens semi-final in Rome between Novak Djokovic & Roger Federer has all the hallmarks of a tight 3-set affair but after looking at both players previous form in this tournament, I think Djokovic will be more motivated to win this match.
For all Federer's brilliant play down through the years, the Swiss ace has not had that much success in this Rome tournament with his best finished been a beaten finalist in 2006 & 2003 and a beaten semi-finalist in 2009 where he lost out in 3 sets to to-nights opponent Djokovic.
Where as Federer's career record in this tournament is nothing special, the same cannot be said of Djokovic as the Serb is a 2-time winner of this Championship having lifted the title in 2011 & 2008 and a beaten finalist in 2009.
Current form usually goes out the window when these two powerhouses meet but I think Djokovic's good career form gives him the edge in this contest tonight and I take the Serb to win in 3 sets.

Pressel Has Good Match-play Pedigree

Golf Sybase Matchplay Championship

20/05 13:00

Morgan Pressel eased to a 5&4 win over Mindy Kim in yesterday's first-round clash and her reward for that success is a tough meeting today with Inbee Park but Pressel looked good in yesterday's win and I think the American could go deep into this tournament this week helped by a win over Park in today's clash.
If Pressel advances from today's match unscathed then she will probably face formidable opponent Na Yeon Choi but anything can happen over 18 holes and in my opinion,Pressel will definitely be in with a chance of beating the more fancied Korean.
Pressel has a good record in matchplay golf having represented U.S.A in three Solheims and she was the star of U.S.A's 2011 campaign with a impressive 4-0-0 record.
Pressel is a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour and she is also a Major winner having won the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship so she certainly has the game to contend here this week if she can sink her fair share of putts.

Stanford Can Repeat Last Years Form

Golf Sybase Matchplay Championship

20/05 13:00

I had Angela Stanford in this tournament last year where she played very well in reaching the semi-finals and I think the American could be in for a similar run this week after yesterdays first-round win over Wendy Ward.
This format of golf suits Stanford as she is a tenacious character and although she faces a tough opponent in today's second-round clash in the shape of Eun-Hi Jee, I think Stanford should have enough to advance to a likely last 16 meeting with Cristie Kerr.
That potential clash could go either way but if Stanford were to win through then she would be in with a very good chance of reaching the semi-finals which would mean that we would get paid out on our each-way place with the potential of a successful outright win bet still active.

Munoz Could Go Well In Sybase Matchplay

Golf Sybase Matchplay Championship

20/05 13:00

Suzann Pettersen suffered a surprising loss to young English girl Jodi Ewart in yesterday's first-round of matches and with the experienced Norwegian out of the way, I think Spaniard Azahara Munoz has a decent chance of emerging from the Annika Sorenstam section and in the process, contending for the title come Sunday night.
Munoz enjoyed a easy first-round win over Lindsay Wright by a 4&3 scoreline and she faces a tough task in todays second-round clash against the experienced Karrie Webb but for a player of such experience, Webb has not got that good a record in matchplay golf and I think Munoz has every chance of beating the Australian in todays clash.
The likes of Stacy Lewis & Sun Young Yoo would be dangerous opponents for Munoz in this section but the Spaniard has plenty of experience in this format of golf having finished runner-up in the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur as well as representing Europe in last years Solheim Cup where she finished with a decent 2-1-1 record.
Munoz has been in good form recently and at odds of 20/1, I think the Spaniard is worth some each-way consideration.

Runs Galore At Tropicana Field

Baseball BOS Red Sox @ TB Rays

18/05 00:10

The last two meetings between Tampa Bay & Boston Red Sox have been low scoring affairs with a total of 4 runs scored in those two games but I think that will change tonight as I can see quite a few runs scored in this clash at Tropicana Field.
Prior to those two recent encounters, this fixture had produced plenty of runs with 10, 18, 14 & 13 runs scored in the previous 4 meetings.
Boston have struggled to stop the runs against inform teams in recent times as Over is 21-8-1 in Red Sox last 30 games against a team with a winning record.
Left-handed pitcher Matt Moore takes the mound for Tampa Bay to-night and Over is 15-5-2 in Boston's last 22 games against a left-handed starter.

Rays To Sting Boston

Baseball BOS Red Sox @ TB Rays

18/05 00:10

The last 3 meetings between these two teams have been tight affairs but I think that will change in tonights game as I can see Tampa Bay Rays winning this outing with some runs to spare.
Tampa Bay have lost just 3 of their 17 games at Tropicana Field this season and even at this early stage of the year, they are already looking like Championship contenders.
Tampa Bay have enjoyed a lot of success in this fixture in recent times with 10 wins in their last 14 meetings with Boston including winning each of their last 4 meetings at Tropicana Field.
Tampa Bay are 8-2 in their last 10 games as a home favourite of -110 to -150 and they are 20-6 in their last 26 home games against a team with a losing road record.
Boston are 9-25 in their last 34 games against American League East teams and they are 2-7 in their last 9 games as a road underdog.

Tampa Bay To Sweep Red Sox

Baseball BOS Red Sox @ TB Rays

18/05 00:10

Tampa Bay Rays squeezed past Boston Red Sox last night with a narrow 2-1 win and I think the Rays can get the job done easier tonight and in the process, complete a 2-game home sweep of divisional rivals Boston.
Tampa Bay have been very strong at home this season having won 14 of their 17 games at Tropicana Field and they come into tonights clash on the back off a 4 game winning streak.
Boston have recovered from their slow start to this season but they are still a shadow of the side that was among the best in the league a few seasons back.
Boston have lost on each of their last 4 visits to Tropicana Field and I think that stat will extend to 5 games by the time the last ball is pitched in this game tonight.

Over Result Beckons At Nationals Park

Baseball PIT Pirates @ WAS Nationals

18/05 00:05

I fancy Washington Nationals to sweep Pittsburgh Pirates in tonights final game of this 2-game home series but although I don't see Pittsburgh scoring many runs in this game, I still think it will finish with a Over result as this Game-Total line of 6-runs seem's very low.
Washington have been great in the pitching department this season but the Nats have not given their pitchers the run support that their performances have deserved but I am hoping that is not the case in tonights game.
Over is 6-0 in Nationals last 6 home games and Over is also 6-0 in their last 6 home games against a team with a losing record.
Over is 6-1 in Pirates last 7 road games and Over is also 6-1 in Pirates last 7 games as a road underdog.

Zimmerman To Keep Pittsburgh Quiet

Baseball PIT Pirates @ WAS Nationals

18/05 00:05

Washington Nationals are 8-2 in their last 10 home meetings against Pittsburgh Pirates and with Jordan Zimmerman taking the mound tonight for the Nats, I strongly fancy a Washington win here by at least a 2-run margin.
Washington are 7-3 in Zimmermanns last 10 starts as a home favourite and they are also 11-4 in Zimmermanns last 15 starts with 4 days of rest.
Washington are 16-5 in their last 21 home games and they are also 14-3 in their last 17 games as a home favourite.
James McDonald is tonights starting pitcher for Pittsburgh and Pirates are 2-5 in McDonalds last 7 starts as a road underdog plus they are also 0-4 in McDonalds last 4 starts with 5 days of rest.
