Fernando To Shine In Front Of The Kop Again

Premiership Liverpool v Chelsea

08/05 20:00

Torres starts and if ever anything was written in the stars then it would have to be for him to score tonight.

He has been showing some of his former class in the past few weeks and for him to get on the score sheet tonight in front of the fans that used to idolize him would be no surprise.

I have already blogged that I think Chelsea will win tonight and having looked at the teams I am going to standby that, both sides have some major absentees but Chelsea still look the stronger side and Torres should get plenty of chances in front of goal.

Going With Momentum

Premiership Liverpool v Chelsea

08/05 20:00

I opposed Chelsea on Saturday in the cup Final which proved to be the wrong way to go, so tonight I am going with them to beat Liverpool just 3 days after out playing them at Wembley.

Liverpool only really have pride to play for and their form at home has been very poor this season.

Chelsea are still looking for 4th place to ensure a crack at Champions League football next season.

They have been in great from since AVB was fired and were certainly the better side at Wembley as they played like they really wanted the win for the full 90 minutes, Liverpool looked very poor for the majority of the game and only started to play once they were 2-0 down.

I am predicting Chelsea to beat them again 2-0

All Square In East London

Championship West Ham v Cardiff

07/05 16:30

West Ham come into this 2nd leg of the play offs with a 2 goal lead, probably just as well when you consider their home form this season, they play much better away from home and that was clearly demonstrated in the 1st leg in Cardiff.

Cardiff come into this knowing that they need to score goals, so I expect them to be out of the traps quickly going for goal.

West Ham can afford to sit back a little and soak up the pressure and look to catch Cardiff on the break as they push forward.

Therefore I can see Cardiff scoring but can equally see the hosts scoring, a 1-1 or even a 2-2 would not surprise me.

The draw is my call.

Blackburn To Soldier On

Premiership Blackburn v Wigan

07/05 20:00

It does look as though Blackburn will be relegated regardless of this result.
Other results conspired against them yesterday and the late goal at QPR was crucial.

A few weeks ago (mid March) they looked to be edging towards safety however a string of poor results and other teams winning around them have almost certainly sent them down into the Championship, they need to win here and then win at Stamford Bridge next Sunday to have any chance of surviving.

I think they will win tonight but don€t think they will win at Stamford Bridge.

Wigan have gone on a dream run just at the right time and look almost certain to survive for another season in the top flight.
Martinez has worked miracles here and deserves a lot of credit.

If you look at the form of the 2 sides it couldn€t be more different.

Blackburn last 8 games €' W2 D0 L6

Wigan last 8 games €' W5 D1 L2

That says everything really.

I think Blackburn will go all out for the win tonight as failure to win will see them down before their last game, Wigan have a terrible record here having never won and losing on their last 5 visits

Blackburn to win 3-1

Newcastle V Man City

Premiership Newcastle v Man City

06/05 13:30

I have already blogged that I think this one will end up as a draw but i fancy Papiss Cisse to score the 1st goal.

He is great form at the moment and the brace he scored at Chelsea make him a prime candidate to score again today.

Alan Pardew has pulled off a couple of remarkable signings by getting him and Demba Ba spending very little money and getting a fantastic return on his investment.

Cisse looks a natural goal scorer and I am sure he will take any chances that are given to9 him today, City are vulnerable away from home and let's hope that Newcastle can get the upper hand early on.

1-1 with Cisse scoring the 1st.

Stalemate @ St James's Park

Premiership Newcastle v Man City

06/05 13:30

So this one could decide which side of Manchester is to be crowned as Champions.

A lot of pressure is riding on Man city and it is now their title to lose and I have a feeling that they are going to be frustrated today by a very much determined Newcastle side.

Newcastle did very well to win away at Chelsea during the week, however they were taken apart prior to that by Wigan, couple this with the fact that Chelsea were resting some key players then it could be argued that their €true form€ is slightly misleading.

They will carry the hope and belief of 45.000 Geordies today hoping that they can win and make it to the champions League qualifiers next season in that all important scrap for 4th place. They have had a fantastic season whatever the outcome and Alan Pardew has proven himself to be a very good appointment.

It should be an interesting encounter, a lot depends on which Newcastle side turn up and to a certain extent the same can be said about Man City, they too have put in some very average performances this season particularly away from home.
There is of course a lot riding on this game for both sides and my thoughts are that they will cancel each other out in a cautious low scoring draw, 1-1 is my shout.

It Is Liverpool's Day

FA Cup Liverpool v Chelsea

05/05 17:15

The FA Cup kicking off at 5:15pm and not being the final game of the English football season is just plain wrong, I remember (this makes me sound old) the days when FA Cup day was a day in front of the TV from 9:00am in the morning watching all of the build-up and you had the choice of watching it either on BBC (John Motson at his very best) or ITV.

Anyway here we are today looking forward to what on paper should be a classic, let€s just hope it doesn€t disappoint.

For most of the week I have been thinking Chelsea win, this based on current league form and their apparent ability to perform well in the €big games€.

However this morning I have woken up early as usual and my thoughts have all been with Liverpool, some of this is purely gut feel but I also think that having already won 1 cup this season the momentum is with them, they have nothing else to play for and a haul of 2 cups in a season would be seen as a major success by most fans and I am sure the management too.

This is an away game for both sides but Liverpool have demonstrated all season that they play better away from home than at home so that has also been factored into my decision to back them.

I am hoping that we see a 5 goal thriller and can certainly see at least 3 goals so over 2.5 goals would also look to be a decent bet at 2.2 +

The Blues To Prosper By The Seaside

Championship Blackpool v Birmingham

04/05 19:45

So we got it right last night backing the Hammers to take a lead back to London, can we do the same tonight I wonder.

I think this is a really tough one to call.

Both sides hit form at just the right time to get themselves into the play offs and respective home and away from is fairly even.

Logic say this could well end in stalemate as the visitors are tough to beat on their travels but do draw a lot, however I have a feeling that Birmingham are going to pull something out of the hat and nick a win which would put them in great shape going back to St Andrews.

As a Villa fan I want Blackpool to win this and get promoted but I do respect what Chris Hughton has done at Birmingham this season, nothing short of a miracle to be honest considering the restrictions that he has worked under, a top manager for sure.

West Ham To Get The Edge

Championship Cardiff v West Ham

03/05 19:45

I am going with West Ham to win tonight in Cardiff.

They play much better away from home and I am sure that Sam will have them fully fired up for this one as they will want to take a lead back to London with them as their home form is questionable eat best.

To be honest the play offs are a bit of a lottery and any one of the 4 sides contesting them could go up, league form does not really have a major baring on how the play offs pan out, they are more like cup games so expect the unexpected.

I think it will be a tight game decide by the odd goal, West Ham to win 1-0 or 2-1 is my prediction.

Take On Arry Spurs Odds On REALLY!

Premiership Bolton v Tottenham

02/05 20:00

It appears that now Arry is not going to be England manager that everybody thinks Tottenham are going to start winning again, this is based on the current odds which have Tottenham as clear favs by a country mile.

However I am certainly not convinced and would not want to be backing them at odds on if this game was at WHL let alone being away.

They have not won away from home in 2012, their last win away was at Norwich back in December.

Bolton are fighting for their lives and although Tottenham are fighting for 4th place I think Owen Coyle's men will have enough to get at least a point tonight.

Prediction 1-1

Chelsea Win

Premiership Chelsea v Newcastle

02/05 19:45

I think it is hard to look past a Chelsea win here tonight.

If they were not fighting for 4th place in the League things would be different with the FA Cup final coming up at the weekend, but they need 4th spot and I think they will put out a team to beat the visitors.

Chelsea have been in very good form since Di Matteo took over and I think there is more to come from them

Newcastle were thrashed by Wigan at the weekend which will surely gave dented their confidence a little.

They have lost to both Arsenal and Tottenham away from St James's Park and they were thumped 3-0 by Chelsea in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Prediction 2-0

Stoke Win

Premiership Stoke v Everton

01/05 19:45

This one does have a very end of season, nothing to play for feel about it but I still think that Stoke will put in a shift as they often do at home and take all 3 points.

Their recent home form is OK having lost just 2 of their last 8 and winning 3 of their last 5

Everton are not the best travelers in the League and have won just 1 of their last 8 away from Goodison Park.

The Britannia is never an easy place to go to and get points and I am taking the hosts to finish their season strong and win this by the odd goal.

Prediction 1-0 or 2-1
