When a team can boast batsmen with the hitting power of Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera, they are never really going to be out of a game. They bat at numbers 3 and 4 for the Detroit Tigers against the Cleveland Indians, who have some decent power hitters themselves. It looks a difficult match to call a winner but the pitching could be caught for some runs. Rick Porcello starts for the Tigers after being mauled by the usually powerless Minnesota Twins. Ubaldo Jimenez of the Indians has an ERA over 5 which does not instill much confidence of control.

The run spread for the Boston Red Sox visit to the Baltimore Orioles is currently at 9.5. Both teams have hit form so it might not be the best thing to try and pick a winner. The Orioles current form stands at 6-4 and they are 27-16 on the season. The Red Sox gave the bigger reputation and are going nicely at 8-2 but are still only 21-21 on the season.
Neither side is shy when coming to the plate so there could potentially be a high score. Felix Doubront of the Red Sox and Brian Matusz of the Orioles have both been picking up wins but both have high ERAs.

They have not been at their best in run scoring lately but will be looking to put that right after being shut out last night by the Kansas City Royals. The run spread is under or over 9 runs and the Yankees have a chance to score against the Royals starting pitcher Luke Hochevar, a pitcher the Yankees have got at once already this season. Earlier this month they hit seven runs off Hochevar and he was pulled from the game early. Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes is another that can be expensive.

The Washington Nationals have had the better of recent form over their rivals with three wins to one this season, the latest being a two â€' one win last night. Washington, as the Nationals, have never beaten the Phillies starting pitcher Roy Halladay. With the Phillies struggling a bit at home it is the perfect time for the Nationals to get the better of Halladay.

The Los Angeles Lakers are used to winning NBA titles but are in grave danger of being knocked out of this years play-offs by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Thunder lead the series by three matches to one and the Lakers need to win game five if they are to extend the series and add wins in games six and seven to progress. The Thunder have been good at home in the regular season with a record of 26 wins and 7 defeats.
The signs of the Lakers making some kind of comeback have been there. They had a 13 point lead in the last game with only 8 minutes to go but let that slide and lost the match. They can pull game 5 out for a win to extend the series by one more game.

The Baltimore Orioles are currently in a five game winning streak, which includes wins over the Yankees, Royals and tonight’s opponents the Washington Nationals. Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chens teammates will be hoping for another strong performance as they face Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals who comes into this match off a poor effort against the Padres. That performance apart, Strasburg has been solid previously. The first two games of this series have been close with the Orioles winning 2-1 and 6-5. This might be lower scoring with two young pitching aces going head to head. I like the Orioles chances again in this one.

The Baltimore Orioles are playing out of their skins as they have made a sensational start to the MLB season and are in first place in the American League East. They have not really got any of the games big names but have been impressive. Tonight they visit the Washington Nationals to close a three match series with the Orioles winning the first two games. The Orioles starter for tonight’s tilt against the Washington Nations is the Taiwanese born pitcher Wei-Yin Chen who has four wins from seven starts with his team winning six of them. His ERA is 2.45 and he is averaging six-plus innings per start and two or fewer runs in five of his six starts.

None of the runners in the 2.15 at Newmarket look particularly comfortable with the good to firm going. Thought Worthy has only had outings on soft or heavy ground. Brother of Frankel, Noble Mission has also had wins on softer ground and is up in the weights due to previous success. I am taking a chance on Farhaan who has won on good ground and has gone on good to firm but with less success. Paul Hanagan rides for John Dunlop in what could end up an open race. One of these will get to grips with the good to firm ground this time.

Underdog Worth A Shot

I must admit to doing a double take when seeing the Miami Marlins as the underdog when visiting the Cleveland Indians. The starter for the Marlins is Carlos Zambrano who has been a lights out pitcher at times this season. He completely blanked the Houston Astros two starts back and has an ERA of 1.88. The area killing the Marlins has been their bull pen where a number of players have been used in the closer role. Indians starter Justin Masterson does tend to put in mixed performances and the Marlins can take advantage of him in this one.

Another interesting MLB game is tonights clash between the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. Neither team has started the season well, but have perhaps just started to gain some momentum and both are 6-4 from their last ten games. There might be some value in taking Red Sox as the outsider but pitcher Daniel Bard is not someone to put much faith in. It might be a game with a few runs in it though as Cody Ross of the Red Sox, has 4 career home runs against Cole Hamels and Ross has 10 home runs at Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Phillies.

Two pitchers in their best form take center stage when the St. Louis Cardinals visit the Los Angeles Dodgers. The run line is currently low at under 6.5 runs with the Cardinals' Lance Lynn and the Dodgers' Ted Lilly pitching at their best this season. Both have ERA’s at just over 2 and below but before a ball was thrown in the season, neither would have been thought of as being this good. Lance Lynns last start was his worst of the season but still pretty good giving up 3 runs. Lilly gave up 4 runs against the Rockies. This makes me think that if either pitcher is like anywhere near the last outing, then there should be 7 runs plus scored in the game.

Mick Channons runner Laugh Out Loud seems to have attracted some attention and is one of the market movers in the betting. The last outing was tough in the 1000 Guineas when finishing eighth of seventeen. Before that, there were back to back wins at Kempton. William Buick gets the ride as he did with the second Kempton win in April. The danger is likely to be Lily's Angel who also ran in the Guineas and the two were close with Lily's Angel finishing in seventh when both runners were 50/1, one place ahead of Laugh Out Loud.
