May 20 Another Wise Kid To Pass Redcar Test
21:14
21/05 15:40 ANOTHER WISE KID showed enough on his debut as a 4-y-o to suggest he can continue to win races this season. A multiple winner as a 3-y-o, he looked a proper 5f horse and he is already proven on this track, having won here last June. Back to his reappearance, he raced prominently and was right up there until the final furlong on heavy ground. Today's underfoot conditions will be much more to his liking and any improvement at all for that run should see him go close. Paul Midgely has his string in good order and Another Wise Kid can beat Bedloes Island and Noodles Blue Boy. 60

Profit/Loss Another Wise Kid Win nap @ 7.5 LOST May 12 El Dancer Loves Soft Ground And May Have Been Targeted For This.
23:36
13/05 16:10 It is fair to say that EL DANCER's best days are behind him but that is true of many of us! In his prime, Lucy Wadham's charge was running up to 143 and now he races from 120, his third successive caareer-low rating. Still, there are positives and a liking for soft ground is right there at the top. Two previous runs here have resulted in a first and a second and all his wins over jumps previously have been in the spring. The capable Matt Crawley has ridden the horse a couple of times before and I fancy that the horse has been prepared for this Training Series Final race. A couple of months break may have served to freshen El Dancer up and he looks a big price at 10/1. 25

Profit/Loss El Dancer Win @ 11 LOST May 12 Gary Moore Rarely Leaves Plumpton Empty-handed And Finch Flyer Looks A Likely Winner
23:15
13/05 15:40 FINCH FLYER is quite a strong fancy of mine for this handicap hurdle. As a regular at Plumpton, I am well used to Gary Moore leaving the meeting with at least one winner and I think this is the habitual leading course trainer's best chance. As is typical with one from the Brighton yard, Finch Flyer mixes both codes and whilst it is true that his 5 runs over hurdles this winter have been consistently bad, he has dropped 24 lb and his latest flat run indicated he may be about to turn a corner. Seems to handle softish ground well enough so I am hopeful of a good run if the horse fancies it. 25

Profit/Loss Finch Flyer Win nb @ 9 LOST May 12 Brunettesonly For Me When I Nap
23:05
13/05 15:10 Funny enough, I tend to favour a nice ginger at the moment but at 3.10, it is strictly BRUNETTESONLY. The case for is fairly simple, the likely favourite is most at home on the prevailant soft ground, is currently bang in-form and has shown a liking for Plumpton. Won here the day before the Cheltenham festival and improved 7 lb when beating all but one here in Easter. Easy to forgive a lesser effort at Chepstow in between and she still looks very well treated off 97 (ran to 109 last time). Her opponents all have chances balanced against one worry or another but Brunettesonly is undoubtedly the solid option. 53

Profit/Loss Brunettesonly Win nap @ 2.75 LOST May 12 Dour Stayer Romney Marsh Can Make The Frame.
22:33
13/05 14:40 I have the pleasure of attending Plumpton races tomorrow which, if you are anywhere near West Sussex, is well worth a visit. The second race on the card is one of those where none of the runners particularly appeal on first sweep and so it may be worth siding with something at an each-way price. Not many mares are still racing at the age of 11 so ROMNEY MARSH has blue hair, metaphorically speaking. Notable for her poor win record but at the same time she tends to stay on dourly, if a little pacelessly and over this 3m+ trip, she is fancied to make the frame on ground she handles. 36

Profit/Loss Romney Marsh EW @ 10 LOST May 12 Pepper Lane's Record When Fresh Is Not To Be Sneezed At
13:48
12/05 15:50 An interesting Listed race for fillies & mares this and none appeal more than PEPPER LANE. Firstly, the selection was second on her debut as a juvenile and then managed to win first time out in both 2010 and 2011. David O'Meara trained her really well to bag a straight hat-trick last summer, winning large field handicaps the last twice and seemingly she just kept getting better. Whilst her form tailed off in September, that doesn't really concern and even though she is not totally proven on a soft surface, I fancy she can come out on top. 43

Profit/Loss Pepper Lane Win nb @ 5 LOST May 12 Secret City Worth Waiting For At Thirsk
10:33
12/05 20:45 A bit late in the day to have a nap but SECRET CITY looks hugely overpriced. Last Autumn, the gelding won two fifteen runner handicaps back-to-back and at this sort of level, that counts for plenty. One of those wins came on soft ground so today's conditions should be fine. Interestingly, he made his seasonal bow without his usual headgear here but that returns this evening so I expect him to come on for that run. Not too badly drawn either, with high numbers holding the call of late when the ground is soft here so whilst he is higher in the weights than for his last two wins, I rate his chance. Trainer Robin Bastiman is 3-8 in the last fortnight so that is another positive. 31

Profit/Loss Secret City Win nap @ 17 WON May 12 What's For Pudding A Tast Treat At Thirsk
10:09
12/05 18:15 A low-grade handicap to get Thirsk underway this evening and I think that WHAT'S FOR PUDDING has slipped under the radar at 16/1. Unlike many of these, this filly knows how to win, something she has managed 3 times, including on soft ground off this mark. So far so good then and although she appeared to be well beaten on her recent reappearance off her winter break, I think she actually ran quite well but she got hampered and messed about so I think that is worth forgiving. Every chance that run will have bought her on to boot and her trainer knows how to get modest horses to win their share. 49

Profit/Loss Whats For Pudding EW @ 17 WON May 12 All The Aces Could Hold Them All
09:35
12/05 15:40 ALL THE ACES looks to have plenty in his favour here and he is easily fancied against the market leaders. Owner and trainer are looking for a hat-trick in this race and their horse this year has potential to go on improving over hurdles. On the flat, he was group class and was capable of running to 113 back in 2009. A hurdling mark of 128 therefore ought to be super exploitable and the horse has not had a hard season, bypassing Cheltenham before running at Aintree. Wants a bit of cut over hurdles (wouldn't want it bottomless) and given his connections, his chance on the figures and the fact he is quite fresh, it is hard to predict anything other than a good effort this afternoon. 46

Profit/Loss All The Aces EW @ 13 LOST May 12 Softer Ground To Suit AP's Mount Ubi Ace
09:28
12/05 15:40 I managed to get my race titles muddles yesterday but this is the Swinton and the trio that interest me are Tony Star, All The Aces and UBI ACE. A triple winner on the flat, Ubi Ace made up into a really useful hurdler and then trainer Tim Walford held him in the highest regard. Money talks though and he was sold to a prominent owner of Jonjo O Neils for a large sum. Ran at both Cheltenham and Aintree and presuming that was why he was bought, he was rather disappointing both times. That is a concern but this softer ground definitely looks to be in his favour and so with AP in the saddle, I am hopeful the horse can start to justify his price tag. 42

Profit/Loss Ubi Ace Win @ 17 LOST May 11 The Tracey Shuffle Sure To Be Suited By Stepping Up In Trip For The Swinton
23:56
12/05 14:00 THE TRACEY SHUFFLE has bright prospects of adding to the Pipe team's impressive record in the Swinton Hurdle. With only 7 races to his name, this 6-y-o is entitled to keep on improving for a while yet and since returning from a lengthy absence, he has done very well. A close second to Nagpur in January was followed by a facile 31-length victory the following month in an admittedly weak northern maiden hurdle but he carried that level of form to Punchestown (was declared at Cheltenham but didn't run) where he was a good third. Handles soft ground and what it is interesting is that he has yet to race over this trip. All the evidence suggests it will suit and I expect some decent money to come for the horse. 66

Profit/Loss The Tracey Shuffle EW @ 13 LOST May 11 Cross Kennon Has The Class On Soft Ground
23:38
12/05 14:00 CROSS KENNON faces an undoubtedly stiff task from top weight but he is tough and classy and maybe he is up to the challenge. Beaten by Big Bucks on three of his last six starts, he got to within 5-lengths in the 2011 World Hurdle and that on paper at least was a career-best effort. Now, it is valid to be concerned that he is 12 lb higher than when last running in a handicap although he has earned that as he seems to be still improving at the age of eight. Has not had too hard a season either and I am sure he will have appreciated the break since Cheltenham. On soft or heavy ground, his form figures are 89412112152 and so he will certainly appreciate the underfoot conditions. 40
