  • Honeyball and Skelton to continue fine form at Chepstow

TeddyT on 08 Oct at 17:42

Chepstow Silver Trophy Meeting 10th and 11th October For many National Hunt fans the Silver Trophy meeting at Chepstow is the sign that the new jumps season is truly underway. The management at the racecourse appears to making an attempt to further enhance the importance of this fixture by extending the meeting to two days. In effect this is an amalgamation of the two individual Saturday meetings that were held at the course during October in previous years by bringing these fixtures together and making a Chepstow two-day Festival. Some top quality horses have registered wins in these races over the last five years including the likes of Sire De Grugy, Albertas Run, Cue Card and Silviniaco Conti. A number of trainers appear to have targeted the October Chepstow meetings in previous years in an attempt to get the main part of the…

  • College Football Week Six: A defensive battle in the SEC awaits

undertherobe on 08 Oct at 22:27

Week Five was a huge week in terms of playoff implications with quite a bit of movement amongst the teams in contention. Michigan State almost let a big lead slip at home to Purdue and that cost them favour with AP voters as they fell to 4th whilst big wins for TCU and Baylor lifted them to 2nd and 3rd respectively. Ohio State remain number one despite struggling in Indiana and they continue to get less first place votes. Alabama jumped back into the top 10 with a thumping win in Georgia whilst the big SEC winners were Florida (more on them later) who had a marquee win at home to Ole Miss and moved up to just outside the top 10 at 11. Of course, it’s all guesswork at the moment as the first committee rankings of the year don’t come until after…

  • The New Boxing Champion Of The World

bitmoretechnical on 08 Oct at 16:50

In boxing it can sometimes be hard to figure out who the champion actually is. You may have seen a boxer you've never heard of wearing about 10 belts around his shoulders, neck and arms and then be told that he isn't even a world champion. In fact, the situation has gone so far that there is a phrase for it: Alphabet soup or alphabet titles, referring to the abbreviations of the various sanctioning bodies that award world titles. The issue is that anybody can offer a title and most boxers, or at least their promoters, ensure that they are seen with anything resembling a belt whenever they are in camera shot. But this also means that genuine champions and their achievements can be belittled. This weekend, in Manchester, Terry Flanagan defends his WBO lightweight title for the first time and…

sportingsamcan on 08 Oct at 10:16

National Hunt 10 to Follow It’s that time of year where people start posting 10 to follow blogs. I am going to offer you something similar, but try to avoid giving you a list of 10 Willie Mullins horses that we already know plenty about. The aim of the blog is to identify winners, potential superstars and horses that we will see plenty of this season. I have also added two ante post picks that I will be following for the season. Value At Risk Trained by Dan Skelton A horse that impressed many last season including his trainer. What is even more exciting his his trainers optimism that he can be even better when he starts chasing. Given the trainers plans we look set to see him run at least twice before Christmas. 20-1 for the RSA may look a bit…

  • Weekend Football: How hard can it be to land a three team acca?

undertherobe on 08 Oct at 20:35

As soon as West Ham fell to a 2-0 deficit, it was never going to be a good week for the blog and so it transpired as only one of the five picks won although it could have been so much better had at least a couple of the three draws fell down on the right side. Onto this week and with the International break, it’s a truncated acca with just three picks from Leagues One, Two and the National League. It can’t be that difficult to pick three winners can it?............ Running Totals Singles: 15/28 (53.57% strike rate), 1.93 pts profit (6.89% roi) Accumulators: 1/6 (16.67% strike rate), 11.40 pts profit (190% roi) A quick recap of the rules I’ve set myself for this experiment, Rule One No odds are out of range. We hear stories all the time of a short priced favourite…
