Is the GAA the new Religion in Ireland?
by superslatts on 11 Apr at 12:34
World History(a bit long-winded) Throughout history there have been many superpowers who's influence has stretched far from their original borders. A lot of these have brought a trail of destruction with them but essentially the ones that have the best legacy have been the ones that have the ones that have brought something constructive to humanity. Regardless of what they did or didn't do for the greater good they tended to rule through a similar tactic and that is fear. Either through fear of being impaled on a spike, sent to the gallows, tortured, or eternal damnation in the afterlive by a ball of gas in the sky. Analysing the behaviour of all megalomaniac structures historically & modern it's evident that the key ingredient needed for any of these to succeed is a structured class system where the masses are generally subservient sheep..

Karolina and Kristyna Pliskova in Malaysian Open 2014
by meldettori on 14 Apr at 06:20
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Open 2014, the first potential square-off between the two Czech tennis sisters in a long time. The two could meet in the final if results go their way and beat the likes of Cibulkova (in Karolina's half of the draw), and Donna Vekic, Kimiko Date-Krumm, or one of the Zhangs (in the bottom half of the draw, as it looks relatively easier passage for Kristyna). Last year this tournament was the sight of Karolina's first ever WTA tour win. The head-to-head between the two has been already outlined in this post. I think, due to the first half of the draw being more difficult for the champion, Kristyna could win (or get at least to the latter stages of) this tournament. She played well in Auckland this year, failing after 5 matches, but won an ITF tourney in Britain indoors,..
NHL Play-offs - First Round Preview
by undertherobe on 13 Apr at 23:37
It’s amazing how quickly an 82 game season passes by but with the elongated format of the NHL Playoffs, we're nowhere nearly done just yet. 16 of the 30 teams have battled through to the knockout phase where they will face off through four rounds of best of seven matchups for the right to lift the Stanley Cup. So how do the teams match up in Round One? Eastern Conference Detroit Red Wings @ Boston Bruins What a matchup this promises to be. This is the first playoff meeting between these Original 6 teams since 1957. Boston prevailed back then in 5 games and it’s hard to see them failing to do so in 2014. That being said, despite the Bruins having the best record in the NHL, they have lost 3 of 4 to Detroit this season. Detroit has done well to..

MLB Review - We 12.04.14
by undertherobe on 13 Apr at 08:28
Another 7 days have passed by in Major League Baseball and although it's still early days in the context of a 162 game season, patterns are slowly starting to emerge. Before we take a look at the previous 7 days, let's have a brief look at the picks that were identified in last week's blog. Picks Review Detroit split their 2 game series in Los Angeles as the bullpens took centre stage on both nights. The Dodger's inserting Josh Beckett into the lineup to replace Ryu probably cost us a crack at backing Detroit at evens or better but that was probably for the best given the way Joe Nathan spectacularly threw away a 3 run lead in the 9th. The total line for Friday’s Red Sox @ Yankees game was 8.5 runs so just a half run too high and lucky..
The new European Rugby Champions Cup - a brief guide
by karlmcgowan on 11 Apr at 14:24
2014 is to be the last year of the Heineken Cup. After two years of argument and debate between the various European Rugby bodies an agreement was finally reached late on Thursday night in London. Once the winning team lifts the Heineken Cup trophy in Cardiff in May the competition will be dissolved and replaced by the new European Rugby Champions Cup. So what is this new Europe wide tournament and how does it differ from the current Cup arrangement. The main change is that there are now just 20 teams in the new Cup competition compared to 24 in the Heineken Cup with the Rabo Pro12 being the league that loses out. To compare: HEINEKEN CUP 13/14 - 6 Aviva teams - 6 Top14 teams - 12 Rabo Teams - Total 24. ..
